...the lid of your wheelie bin is frozen shut. 😂

Come tell me the random little signs of winter where you are. ❄🌨

When the shampoo has solidified, you can see your breath in the house and you realise that the fridge must be doing something peculiar because it’s warmer in the fridge than the room it’s in.

Good job cutting wood for the fire warms you up!

Pebbles16 · 01/12/2023 20:23

The watering cans are solid, the cat poo in the garden is easier to pick up (we don't have cats), and the robins are super fluffy. Oh, and my sixth form tutor's advice about an electric blanket is true for another year (I'm really quite old)

Wanttobeok · 01/12/2023 20:24

Husband doesn't rage at me about the heating being on all day!

tenpoundpombear · 01/12/2023 20:24

I left a bottle of olive oil in the car and it solidified 😳

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 01/12/2023 20:26

When you can’t grip anything metal with bare hands or you’ll leave skin behind.

Butteredtoast55 · 01/12/2023 20:28

I know they must be desirable in certain climates but the thought of heated driveways makes me sad for the planet.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 01/12/2023 20:30

My glass of water stays cold after an hour of being by the bed.

cardibach · 01/12/2023 19:15

That shouldn’t happen. Heating makes it warm, not stuffy (or should). I do open windows anyway during the bits where there’s no heating because I like fresh air.

It shouldn't but it really is horrid.

It's an odd building so most of it is upstairs and someone else is tucked below my bedroom and living room. I don't think that helps with the stuffiness. And I've got arthritis so I absolutely can't have the window open because then it's too cold and my joints are aching enough already.

Nightmare!

NotAStrongFemaleRoleModel · 01/12/2023 20:38

When I start worrying about DSs rabbits, and spend all day lining their house (a full sized shed) with insulation, draught excluders around the door and windows, fill it with extra hay and straw, buy pet heat pads and run an extension cable from the house and plug in a heater to warm it up before I shut them in for bedtime (as they free roam the garden/their house during the day).

DS would be devastated if they died, and I'd be guilt ridden for both the rabbits and my DS.

They aren't house rabbits, they were never happy inside the house. They've been super happy since we built them their own rabbit house and let them roam. But the thought of them out in a shed in these freezing conditions fills me with anxiety!

DH thinks I'm mad.

They use what is essentially waste water from the heating system, it costs £0 to run as it just redirects waste water. Think about manhole covers, they’re virtually always visible unless the snow is very heavy due to the water below warming the air/cover so ice doesn’t form. Better for the planet than the device your posting on.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 01/12/2023 18:40

Absolutely this.
I hate it and am having a horrible time atm.

Me too, it's hit me like a ton of bricks this year. I think it's because we didn't really have much of an autumn, just going straight from summer weather to winter cold and short days. Such a shock to the system.

flowerchild2000 · 01/12/2023 20:41

I have to time my grocery runs perfectly to avoid being caught in blinding snow storms. My clothes freeze when I put them on the line outside to dry- this actually makes them softer. 🥶❄️😰

DrCoconut · 01/12/2023 20:43

My secondary school age DS had a jacket on over his blazer at hometime.

Tulipvase · 01/12/2023 20:47

We have to empty the washing machine waste pipe as it doesn’t drain well and froze last year, which we only discovered when the water couldn’t get out the pipe so came back into the kitchen…….

CirreltheSquirrel · 01/12/2023 20:48

You have to go into the garden to unstick the lid of the squirrel feeder so that they can get at their peanuts.

Mercedes519 · 01/12/2023 20:52

Teen DS put two hoodies on this morning. Still no coat, gloves or hat but two hoodies means it must be cold

Darklane · 01/12/2023 20:56

You can’t put petrol in the car cos the flap to the filler cap is frozen so solid you can’t shift it.
You have to slice the butter to put on the bread instead of spreading it.
The dogs dash to go out then come to a full stop in a pile up on the back doorstep.
You have to take a hammer to the geese’s shed door to let them out in the morning.
Theres frost on the inside of your windows.
The apples you collected & haven’t got round to using have frozen solid in the bucket.

The cats line up at 4pm to tell me to light the lights fire

Since the clocks went back an hour my cat 'demands' his food at 4pm.
I still make him wait until 5pm, he's trying it on and I wasn't born yesterday 😁

ActDottie · 01/12/2023 21:00

I need gloves on my dog walk!

TheUsualChaos · 01/12/2023 21:01

Another vote for butter.

Also DDog doesn't fancy her usual mooch about the garden after her bedtime wee 😆 straight back in atm!

Isseywith3witchycats · 01/12/2023 21:03

when my front and back garden are covered in snow as they are now
when its pitch black outside at 7.30 am and 4.15 pm

user6776 · 01/12/2023 21:03

The car door is frozen and won't open

Devilsmommy · 01/12/2023 21:04

TheTempest · 01/12/2023 19:29

My husband puts a hoody on with his shorts and t shirt- it must be below freezing!

🤣😆🤣 do we have the same husband?

Coastalcreeksider · 01/12/2023 21:04

sixteenfurryfeet · 01/12/2023 19:42

Likewise. By the pricking of my thumbs, something chilly this way comes.

Why it should be my thumbs that ache the most, I have no idea.

I had terrible pain in my right thumb, doc said wear and tear arthritis, gave me a steroid injection in July and it's been wonderful, took two weeks nearly to kick in but I don't have pain any more. I can have further injections apparently but fingers crossed, I won't need another one for a while yet.

CesareBorgia · 01/12/2023 21:05

I know it's cold when the radiators in my house acquire a decorative 'cat' feature.
