Paris Hilton surrogacy

geevesask · 30/11/2023 19:46

"Surrogacy was a difficult decision to make," she admitted.
"I would have loved that experience of growing the baby in your tummy and feeling the kicks and all of those exciting moments, but my life has just been so public," she continued. "So even though the baby is biologically mine and Carter's, we decided to have a surrogate carry him."

What does that even mean ? What does being in the public eye have to do with carrying your own child ?

Have a watch of this. It puts Paris Hilton in rather harsh perspective.

(For info - it is about Dame Laura Kenny and her coming back to training after giving birth.)

@Zoflorabore yes as she has been abused in the past (physical, sexual, emotional) she probably has a lot of body issues.
@DrowninginMaryBeardsBeard she probably could have led a "normal" life if she hadn't been sent to an abusive school. Unfortunately she was though.

MarshmallowPink · 30/11/2023 20:25

I read an interview with her where she detailed horrible abuse she'd suffered, forced to submit to internal examinations in stirrups etc. she said it left her with a lifelong fear of that kind of invasive treatment and attention. Coupled with a feeling of being unsafe linked to media attention, I can see why she made this decision. She didn't even tell her mother until after the baby was born. I think her anxiety comes from real trauma

geevesask · 30/11/2023 20:26

Nah sorry I don't agree.
It's not okay, if you can physically carry your own child, why would you not want too?
Being too famous is just a ridiculous thing to say. It hasn't stopped lots of other celebrities being pregnant. I personally do think it's more to do with ruining her body than anything else.
Also, there's lots of women petrified to give birth, bloody hell i know I was !!

Not that I'm pro-surrogacy at all, btw.

Needmorelego · 30/11/2023 20:28

@geevesask do you actually know about the abuse she suffered?
I doubt it was anything to do with being a 'famous celebrity'.

geevesask · 30/11/2023 20:31

@Needmorelego I feel for her in regards to that, but it isn't an excuse though is it, exchanging cash for babies. Marks of women have suffered awful abuse

It does read as 'I'm just not willing to risk my body like that but I'm happy for another woman to risk hers'. I also find it weird that she's blaming her fame, when she didn't exactly shy away from fame in her younger days. As an heiress she could have had a perfectly normal life just being a normal person in Southern California.

We all do silly things when we are young

Needmorelego · 30/11/2023 20:36

@geevesask I am not going to get into a discussion on whether I am for or against surrogacy.
We (the general public) don't actually know her surrogacy arrangements.

We're all on our own journey

Needmorelego · 30/11/2023 20:39

And why is she the only one getting criticism and not her husband?

Needmorelego · 30/11/2023 20:39

Well I've no idea who the hell he is, everyone knows who Paris Hilton is so it would open up the discussion a little more for starters.
He's just as bad though obviously, although I doubt whether he agreed or not even mattered, not his body is it

@geevesask I have to admit I don't see what your point is to this thread.
I think I am going to back out now.
Goodnight.

beatrix1234 · 30/11/2023 20:49

“Being too famous” is a silly excuse, I think it has more to do with being in her 40’s and not wanting to go through all those rounds of IVF which can be very invasive, time consuming and don’t assure you 100% you’ll get pregnant. I’m sure she just wanted to be done with the baby phase quick and pain free. Of course I may be wrong but this is someone who got famous by letting herself being videotaped having sex, camera shy she’s not, so not wanting to be shown pregnant on the press photos strikes me as odd.

WeFancyLike · 30/11/2023 20:54

Surrogacy should be banned, it is in many countries. Exploiting women, renting wombs and buying babies is wrong.

Nofilteritwonthelp · 30/11/2023 20:56

howdoesyourgardengrowinmay · 30/11/2023 20:11

Probably just doesn't want to stretch her own vagina .

Do you also judge people who choose to have a C section unnecessarily?

roarrfeckingroar · 30/11/2023 20:57

Has she bought another baby?

I agree, too many abandoned babies in orphanages all over the world that could do with being raised by wealthy couples.

RealBigBarbie · 30/11/2023 21:06

Could have just started a general anti surrogacy thread

Exactly😅

Observation, not judging 😁😁

Because being pregnant is not all roses, and when you have actual trauma linked to abuse, and medical exams, then being pregnant is really not the one!

I can tell you for free, that if I could have chosen, I would NOT be carrying my child.
being pregnant certainly FEELS like an illness, even if it isnt!
And I love my baby! I cant wait to have her in my arms! But not having to be pregnant would be much better!
And the amount of complications that can happen during pregnancy...

I dont blame Paris Hilton at all.

Im not sure what the point of your thread is, though...

Ofa · 30/11/2023 21:26

She’s 42. Despite what some on Mumsnet would have you believe, at 42 the chances of having a healthy natural pregnancy are near zero.

Maybe Paris doesn’t want to discuss her fertility problems with journalists and so is blaming her fame instead?

beatrix1234 · 30/11/2023 21:33

@Ofa Maybe Paris doesn’t want to discuss her fertility problems with journalists and so is blaming her fame instead?

This.

Consideringachange2023 · 30/11/2023 21:38

Not sure if anyone has said this but she talks about IVF in her autobiography, they had many unsuccessful rounds and in the end decided to use a surrogate with her egg.

I haven’t seen her more recent comments but I have read her autobiography and she is fairly open about her inability to get pregnant. So I would actually expect that is the reason.

Personally I don’t agree with surrogacy but I also don’t believe Paris Hilton to be stupid enough to seriously suggest she used a surrogate because of the publicity a pregnancy would bring.

HelenaCh9 · 30/11/2023 21:57

I disagree with surrogacy and think it should be banned, but I have huge sympathy for Hilton (the treatment she suffered as a teen was appalling) and I can understand why she chose that noninvasive route, especially with her fertility problems/age to boot.

Whilst I disagree with the way she obtained little London, I wish the family the best.
