What's the temperature in your house tonight?

My thermostat says 16 degrees and it's freezing, but still trying not to put the heating on! I have young DS but have made sure he is wrapped up nice and warm in bed.

It's currently 0 degrees outside where I am. I have a dressing gown on and a blanket and I can still feel the cold. Not sure when I'll put the heating on though.

What about you?

We overpaid fuel in the summer. I’m not prepared to freeze again this year.

VernonScrips · 25/11/2023 22:46

Same! Not putting the heating on though!

user6776 · 25/11/2023 22:48

@Bluevelvetsofa We are in credit but not by enough for me to have it on as much as I want 😔

16 degrees I mean. I’m afraid freezing in the winter is just how it is now. I don’t enjoy it but 🤷‍♀️

Tryingtokeepgoing · 25/11/2023 22:48

Minus 1 outside, 22 degrees inside. I refuse to be uncomfortable in my own home!

user6776 · 25/11/2023 22:48

@VernonScrips At what temperature do you think you'll end up putting it on?

OP posts:
DappledThings · 25/11/2023 22:49

17 right now. Was set to 21 till 8.30 then it's set to 9 just to make sure it doesn't come on overnight.

I have a dressing gown on and a blanket. Feels toasty.

Edited because apparently if you just put a number and full stop it assumes you meant a numbered bullet point. Obviously.

DandelionPockets · 25/11/2023 22:49

A nice 20 degrees in my bedroom right now. Keeping me and the baby warm!

VernonScrips · 25/11/2023 22:49

I don’t know. We only put it on about four times last year.

Maybe 14? If we have a longish spell of freezing weather

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/11/2023 22:50

We ended up with mould last year and we heated the house for 4 hours a day, first time ever since living here so this year heating is going on more often. We overpaid in the summer so hopefully it'll be ok.

Doggymummar · 25/11/2023 22:50

22 and I have my heated blanket on too

Fantasia99 · 25/11/2023 22:50

12.5 degrees inside currently. Boiler is broken.

Bournetilly · 25/11/2023 22:50

It was 18 degrees but I’ve put the heating on at 20.

Do you feel cold ?

Blipeuy · 25/11/2023 22:50

19 and I'm comfortable. I work on the logic so long as I pay towards my energy bill I'll get energy.

user6776 · 25/11/2023 22:51

@VernonScrips I had mine set to come on when it dropped below 18 which was comfortable, but I've changed the setting now as I know my bill will end up being too expensive 😬 awful to have to live like this!

mynameiscalypso · 25/11/2023 22:51

We have an old, damp house. What we would save up on heating, we'd end up spending on rectifying the damage from the damp. So it's 22 right now.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 25/11/2023 22:51

Currently 17. DH and DS are both away so I can sit and keep myself warm with hot flushes. 😜

HelloandGoodMorningPlease · 25/11/2023 22:55

15* in the bedroom, but it’s not uncomfortable. I will be warm and toasty soon and chuck the extra blanket off.

user6776 · 25/11/2023 22:55

Already can't wait for summer 🙄 it's going to be a long winter.

TiggeryBear · 25/11/2023 22:57

The boiler is ticking over at 14 degrees atm. We're in a semi-detached & presently next door is empty & up for sale. I know that their boiler is off as the house is empty & it feels like the empty house is sucking the heat out of ours.
It's not too uncomfortable at 14, but we are all wearing sensible layers, slippers & using blankets on the sofa.

VernonScrips · 25/11/2023 22:59

Bearpawk · 25/11/2023 22:50

Do you feel cold ?

I have a couple of heated throws on the sofa. Yes it’s a bit cold, objectively, but we cope.

It’s shocking though that so many people are living like this in 2023 in the UK.

FreshWinterMorning · 25/11/2023 22:59

Hmmm, about 17-18 C... We have the boiler set at 18 and it has been on for about half the time since 5pm. We're gonna have a massive bill if we don't turn it down. Going to bed soon and will leave it at 13 C. It's minus 4 windchill where I am right now! ❄

Namenumber3 · 25/11/2023 23:01

Oh my word thank goodness you did this thread Op.
My house was boiling ( too hot) when I got in from work at 6pm but I thought it was because it was so cold outside.
I’ve just checked and it and totally forgotI had it set on 25 to dry some clothes last week!!
I’ce not even been in the house that much so it’s been a complete waste. Back to 16 it goes. I’m really cross with myself.

user6776 · 25/11/2023 23:01

I'm dreading next week as it's predicted snow here and going to be in the minuses. I think I will end up caving and having it on quite a bit. Just the thought of the bill makes me feel so worried though.
