What's the temperature in your house tonight?

user6776 · 25/11/2023 22:44

My thermostat says 16 degrees and it's freezing, but still trying not to put the heating on! I have young DS but have made sure he is wrapped up nice and warm in bed.

It's currently 0 degrees outside where I am. I have a dressing gown on and a blanket and I can still feel the cold. Not sure when I'll put the heating on though.

What about you?

0 outside and 22 inside. I've got a 14mo who will not have a blanket over him so heating goes on at night no matter what it's costing. If I have to spend more on heating I'll just cut out buying something of mine. Will definitely be glad when he lets me pop a duvet over him though😆

TheMousePipes · 25/11/2023 23:27

In here (front room) it’s about 23 degrees. The cat is in front of the hearth, the Guinea pig is snuggled on a knee and we’re all warm as toast.
The rest of the house is about 17* - perfect for sleeping shortly.

DontLeanOnTheKeyboard · 25/11/2023 23:28

It was 11 indoors earlier. 1930s semi, next door are away. Had the heating up to 18 for showers then off. It’s on for 45 mins in the morning on weekdays.

It is bloody unbelievable that even those not on limited incomes have to sit wrapped up etc. Guess the non-wealthy will cut the carbon footprint for the wealthy!

Whattodowithit88 · 25/11/2023 23:31

22 degrees. If it drops below 20 it comes back on. I have a medical condition and need the warmth.

rubydoobydoo · 25/11/2023 23:31

We have a freezing house- currently have the thermostat set to 14° and the heating comes on when it drops to 13° and heats it up until it gets to 14.5°.

We have pretty much acclimatised to this now but I wish we could afford the heating levels of a couple of years ago!

Westiegirl3 · 25/11/2023 23:32

0 degrees outside 21.4 inside, and I've just come to bed and put my electric blanket on, I absolute hate being cold.
I make sure I over pay during the summer, giving a decent buffer.

Inneedofadviceplease · 25/11/2023 23:33

-1 outside, 23 inside but my electric is included in my rent no matter how much I use so bought some second hand electric radiators, something I’m extremely thankful for this year after the cost of the gas bill last year in my old place.

Helenahandkart · 25/11/2023 23:34

We’re at 11* tonight. It’s really cold. We’re under blankets on the sofa, wearing gloves and scarves and dressing gowns over our clothes. The heating hasn’t gone on yet this year because we can’t afford it.
We have an electric blanket on the bed for 30 mins before bed time so I always really look forward to going to bed and having a little moment of warmth.

mollyfolk · 25/11/2023 23:34

Sitting room is very toasty with the stove going - maybe 22 or more. The rest of the house is 18 degrees which I like as a sleeping temperature. I have it set for 20 in the morning - otherwise getting out of bed is hard. Some of you are very hardy - I’m not sure I could cope with temperatures under 17!

WinteryWonderland · 25/11/2023 23:35

I have mine on constantly during the day set to 18°. Obviously, it only comes on if the temperature in the house drops below 18, so it's not 'on constantly' as such. At night time I drop the temperature down to 14°. So again will only click in if drops below this temperature which it very rarely does.

OverZealous · 25/11/2023 23:35

Living room and kitchen are about 21 thanks to the range and the open fire. Our bedroom was about 4c this morning and is probably about that again now. Peaked at a toasty 9 early afternoon! Lovely and warm with thick duvet and hot water bottle, kids are well snuggled up with theirs too.

user6776 · 25/11/2023 23:35

Mines just dropped to 15 degrees. Lowest I've ever seen it since I moved into this house

My house is currently 22.5. Heating is set to come on if it drops below 21.5 but I lit the wood burner earlier and it’s warmed it up nicely. I have chronic health problems made worse by cold, so heating is set at 21.5 and stays there. Honestly the boiler is hardly ever firing up, seems to be a cheaper way of doing it.

oakfolk · 25/11/2023 23:36

18 degrees with heating on and 0 degrees outside. Wearing a thick fleece and peri means I'm hot. Always over pay in the summer so hopefully bills will stay stable.

FloofyKat · 25/11/2023 23:38

I don’t have my heating on a timer or set to come on at a certain temperature. I hit the ‘on’ button when I want a bit of warmth. Today it was 14 degrees when I got home so on it went. Took a long time to get to 19 degrees, which was when I turned it off. Rest of evening I’ve been wearing a warm onesie and had a fleece blanket over my legs. I’ll put the electric blanket on when I go up to bed.

ACynicalDad · 25/11/2023 23:40

Hearing is set at 18.5 seems fine, might lift it for Christmas holidays.

user6776 · 25/11/2023 23:41

I usually just wear a T-shirt to bed but I'm freezing. Think I'm actually going to have to wear my dressing gown in bed tonight.

purpleme12 · 25/11/2023 23:41

It was 10 degrees inside on the groegg this morning.
But we had had the window open (cos I'm never cold in bed).
It's 15 degrees inside now. I've had heating on twice today.
15 degrees is more than warm enough at night in bed!!

Mercury2702 · 25/11/2023 23:43

17 degrees with heating on, I find it more affordable and comfortable to have it set to 17 so it keeps kicking in when it drops below that. Think it’s cost about £2 today. Last year I had it on 19-20 and it was costing so much my boiler working hard to try reach that.

without it on, when we wake up the house is usuall about 11

RenoDakota · 25/11/2023 23:46

Loulou599 · 25/11/2023 23:19

Living in the UK I have found people's attitudes to heating crazy, like its a kind of pride to not use heating or like its some luxury. To me it's probably the most basic human comfort, having a warm house in winter

Totally agree, and I have lived here my whole life.
The competitive coldness on here is in the same league as the fabled Mumsnet chicken.

bluestar5 · 25/11/2023 23:46

Currently -2 outside and 14 in my bedroom. I'm only in a thin t-shirt whilst the rest of me is under one summer duvet and knitted blanket. It's the perfect temperature for me and I'm very comfortable. My son just came upstairs saying that it's freezing up here. I just love winter ❄️

fetchacloth · 25/11/2023 23:48

21c it's minus one outside.
I have asthma and I'm not risking poor health.

Lemonsorbeteater · 25/11/2023 23:50

2C outside, 18C in the bedroom. Usually the window’s open a smidge but not tonight.

larkstar · 25/11/2023 23:53

It's 18C inside ATM - 0C outside all evening. The heating went off at 10pm. I wear merino wool base layers - leggings and long sleeved vest all the time ATM and also keep popping a neck warmer and a merino wool hat on and off as and when I feel the need. Today I put the silver foil bubble wrap (it's sold in rolls about 1m by about 7m I think - as insulation material) back up on various windows and doors - I cut the pieces last year and velcro them to my windows - it's a bit unsightly having velcro and foil insulation stuck to the windows but it helps keep the heat in the house.

LBFseBrom · 25/11/2023 23:54
  1. It's cosy and comfortable.
