House is still a shithole. Pic included

A few weeks or so back I posted pics of bedrooms in my house. They were a shithole. Me/kids have managed to keep the bedrooms tidy /reasonable.

But my stairs and living room are a mess. I could probably have it all sorted in a couple of hours. But it feels like the end of the world. I feel so drained. And even when i do start doing it something really silly can happen then I feel like giving up.

Or like a few weeks back I started feeling really positive. And got loads done . But after that period of positive cleaning. I won't get that feeling back for a while and just stop.

It should be really simple but it does not feel like it.

I only get a bath /shower once a week sometimes less. I could smell myself earlier and all I did was use baby wipes under my arms and a bit of deodorant.

Anyway I have added photos again . To Shame myself into actually cleaning up .

I had the pleasure of working with a wonderful social worker who received a promotion to management off the back of the incredible work she did to support families that people like CJS would have written off.

CJS wouldn't last 5 minutes in my local authority. We know bad ones exist though...

Hi Op. just wanted to pop in and say that you have a LOT on your plate. A LOT but I think you are doing your best and working through it all step by step, so well done. I hate to quote Tescos ! but every little helps, particularly when the project as a whole can feel overwhelming.

There's been some awful and unhelpful comments on this thread, but I hope you don't let that bring you down.

You mentioned feeling breathless sometimes when you were cleaning or changing bed sheets ( which can be a process that causes dust to rise into the air and can make you cough) When you go for your next blood test.... you could mention it ask your GP to check for Asthma ( they just measure how much puff you have) or an underlying chest infection.

Keep going! Flowers

Really great to see your updates OP about the progress you’ve made. Hopefully you get to the bottom of any underlying medical problems soon so you can get some medication perhaps. I’m feeling apathetic towards the chores lately due to the cold and dark days so you’re not alone.

I think the main thing is its moving forward and not backwards.

Over next few days I want to do general tidy ups. But in a relaxed manner. The kids are at at their dad's this weekend . I only have teen DS here so I'm hoping I can sort things properly. So things have a proper place no boxes of stuff in the way etc

Stairs and hall way done. I was going to sort the downstairs toilet but I'm not feeling it now.

I have upset dd though. Because I told her I won't have baby gs more than 3 times a week. She was saying stuff so I felt guilty. I still Said no though. I feel guilty but I'm fed up with people taking the piss out of me. 😔

3 times a week is more than enough to have your baby GS OP. My lovely mum hardly ever had mine on her own as she was too afraid of something happening. When she was menopausal, she became anxious. She’s not obliged to do childcare.

Cinty6 · 20/11/2023 20:14

Must feel good to get that sorted, btw.

Crazylicious · 20/11/2023 20:16

Well done😊

well done,…. every day a little bit

think you will be on top of it all by Saturday and new week will be a great week!

Night409 · 20/11/2023 20:27

Wow what a difference!
Well done OP you’ve done a fantastic job!

Your home is absolutely stunning and I’d try really hard to keep on top of the cleaning and do a bit every day, instead of having to spend hours on it again.

Yes that's what I'm doing . Small tidy ups through the week. Then Saturday/Sunday the kids are away so I'm going to do extra stuff. But it might not even be that much.

Yes definitely. I do send myself in circles. I will do loads over a day or so. Then over tire myself don't do much for several days then get myself in a mess again. So once I'm properly done I will do the tomm tidy up thing.

Op, try and do the little tidies through the week so you can actually do something for you when the kids are away on the WE. We have a daily routine where we do a quick blast after dinner every night. It’s nice waking up to a clean house every morning that way and no deep cleans are needed really anymore as we keep on top of it. Best thing we ever started doing!

Cinty6 · 20/11/2023 20:41

I meant to say also try to do the extra cleaning stuff through the week too if poss.

Yes that's the longer term plan. I'm doing small tidy ups between now and Friday. Then this sat/sun I will do a deeper clean. That will then set me up to keep on top of it through the week. Which will them free me up for most of the on going weekends.

OP you’ve done brilliantly to motivate yourself to get this done and report back. You’ve obviously found a strategy that works for you at this time.

You probably have very little time for reading/ podcasts. But I found Tiny Habits useful. If you don’t want to read the book there’s an online intensive (very short) option. There’s a short intro to it and you have a coach supporting you.
