Help me solve this strange mystery?!?!

I’m sorry but something happened last night and I will not move past it until the mystery is solved.

I loaded the dishwasher with the usual plates, cutlery etc and the last thing to be added was a big dish that the lasagne was in. I clearly remember putting it in there as I had to slightly manoeuvre it to get it in (it’s quite a big dish).

Any way………. The cycle finished. The dish is gone. Nowhere to be seen. Wasn’t in the dishwasher when I unloaded it. Not in the house.

What. On. Earth. Is. Going. On.

Either….. 1. I am crazy or 2. The dishwasher ate it.

There is simply no explanation.

Ok so even though DP is saying that this os 100% not the case, i’m saying it IS the case.

The clean dish was underneath a new pack of toilet rolls, so…

I left a brand new pack of 9 toilet rolls sat in the hall and I remember I asked him to put them in the spare room.

So even though he is saying he never touched the dishwasher, he must have opened it, taken the dish out, closed it when I asked him to put the toilet rolls away and took the dish with him into the spare room.

This makes sense to me, although he is now absolutely fuming because he said he never touched the dishwasher! Bizarre.

I was saying....Wink

Help me solve this strange mystery?!?!

Did either of you have a chat on the phone to anyone? I have a habit of wandering all over the house when I'm on the phone and have been know to leave things in weird places!

CatOnAMushroom · 11/11/2023 19:58

This one's easy. They went in the bin with the peelings. I've done this 3 times and only discovered it in time two of those

Yeah they definitely went in the bin. I did that with a corkscrew once. Searched high and low for it. Only realised what happened when I found a cork in the utensil drawer.

Bluemoon1881 · 11/11/2023 21:47

Remain diligent ♥️

I’m just back from seeing The Marvels so I have to ask if you’ve recently adopted a flerken cat? Those pocket dimensions are an absolute bugger for stuff going missing.

I do actually have a cat… maybe it’s a Flerken?! If she’s swiped my Tiffany ring I mislaid recently I’ll kill her!

Something like this happened me before where my reading glasses suddenly disappeared. I searched high and low, my DH said he didn’t see them as asked me if I thought he took them. Of course I answered no as why would he.

Anyway, they turned up at the very bottom of my large chest deep freeze in the garage which is away from the house. I never use the deep freezer. At that stage, I had broken up with my DH as I realised he is 100% narcissistic and this was just some sick game he had played on me just to get some sort of kick, to make me think I was going crazy. So maybe watch out for your DP in that regard. I hope not that’s not the case for you.

Scary but sadly this does happen 🤦‍♀️

Bluemoon1881 · 11/11/2023 21:55

Worse, its so easy to convince partner they'd never do this🤦‍♀️ They do

Feelingcrappy2 · 11/11/2023 18:27

I absolutely did not go in there. This is driving me even more mad. I 100% put it in the dishwasher. Either that or DP has lost the plot and he did it or it is aliens. Must add… the dish is sparkling clean. So it must have been him. It still had marks on it when I cleaned it by hand so that darn thing 100% had been dishwasher washed.

Do either of you sleep walk?

LilyPAnderson · 11/11/2023 22:41

Were you and husband the only people in the house? I know about a woman who couldn't find her glass bowl, and then found it under her daughter's bed who had bulimia and was using the bowl to be sick in.

Yetmorebeanstocount · 11/11/2023 18:43

Does he often have difficulty admitting when he is in the wrong?

Why does he have to be wrong? Maybe the OP totally forgot moving it, surprising it may be to many on MN it's not always the male who's wrong!

Sickdissapointed · 11/11/2023 23:22

Bet you find it somewhere odd.
I once lost a pack of loo roll. Transpired I had put it in the freezer.

Luciansmum6 · 11/11/2023 23:27

After all this fuss if I were the husband I’d just say I broke it even if I didn’t

RiderOfTheBlue · 12/11/2023 00:11

@VisionsOfSplendour you beauty! I've been scratching my head about that for months.

Redebs · 11/11/2023 16:19

Is your dishwasher next to your washing machine?

Washing machines regularly do this to socks. The dishwasher had an idea to go one better...

I have a theory about that - the washing machine takes the socks and turns them into random Tupperware lids in the cupboard that don’t fit any of the tubs!

ThelmaBorden · 12/11/2023 08:53

I woke earlier with a teaspoon in the bed
but I didn’t bring a hot stirrable drink
up to bed, nor medicine.

Swapping ‘where did it go’ stories,
a friend said, morning ritual,
took out clean bra and pants,
had shower, dried, no undies.
Looked in the bed, drawer, linen basket,
kitchen bin! never found them.
Another of life’s mysteries

Should I move an item from its well
established place for what I believe
at the time to be a more suitable one,
is when I then mislay stuff.

The mystery of the moving lasagne dish
has a simple explanation now its been located

stay vigilant OP for yourself and husband

I had a similar dilemma with a missing remote control and the answer turned out to be at the bottom of the laundry hamper.

Bottom of our enormous laundry basket is where I used to hide stuff deliberately, ie,
birthday or Christmas presents for the children before having opportunity to wrap them, on
the premise that I was the only one who ever
boldy ventured in there.
Never a lasagne dish though

Feelingcrappy2 · 11/11/2023 18:25

MYSTERY SOLVED. Although still a mystery. Even more so actually…

Bloody hell. Gutted I’m not the one who found it too considering my efforts ALL day!

It was in our SPARE ROOM. I have absolutely no recollection of going in there with the dish and also.. I 100% remember putting it in the dishwasher. I had to move things around to make space for it. All I can think of is that I usually spray big dishes with something to get the stains off before putting it in the dishwasher. Maybe I’ve completely forgotten that I went in there to get a new spray out. But I definitely didn’t?!

It may be found but the plot only thickens.

Welcome to middle age. This kind of thing will happen a lot now ☹️👵

KnickerlessParsons · 12/11/2023 12:10

Snazzysausage · 11/11/2023 19:07

I don't suppose your dish(and toilet rolls)were cuddled up in the corner with a pair of grandfather clock chains were they? 🤔
If you know you know

Did she ever find them?

Snazzysausage · 12/11/2023 14:48

@KnickerlessParsons
No,the OP had to buy replacement chains. Very weird all round.

Mtlso · 12/11/2023 17:42

Whatever is directly opposite your dishwasher, look there. I think it’s slid underneath.

Sisterwinter1969 · 12/11/2023 17:47

Is your husband gaslighting you?
Can happen, in order to make you feel you are going mad.

Midge2022 · 12/11/2023 18:11

I lost a chip pan. It was full of oil. It has never been seen again and its 5 years later.

WhatsInANameIWonder · 12/11/2023 18:28

There’s only one explanation - it’s a glitch in the matrix.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 12/11/2023 18:34

Glad you’ve found it op.
I was going to say it’ll be with my leather burgundy over the knee boots that vanished without a trace back in the day when I had recognisable knees and slimmer legs. I remember taking them off and putting the leg holder up things inside them, put them under the stairs and never saw them again.
