Help me solve this strange mystery?!?!

I’m sorry but something happened last night and I will not move past it until the mystery is solved.

I loaded the dishwasher with the usual plates, cutlery etc and the last thing to be added was a big dish that the lasagne was in. I clearly remember putting it in there as I had to slightly manoeuvre it to get it in (it’s quite a big dish).

Any way………. The cycle finished. The dish is gone. Nowhere to be seen. Wasn’t in the dishwasher when I unloaded it. Not in the house.

What. On. Earth. Is. Going. On.

Either….. 1. I am crazy or 2. The dishwasher ate it.

There is simply no explanation.

Things like this happen at my mom's house. We blame Ethel. She died around 1960.

capabilityfrowns · 11/11/2023 16:45

I'm invested now .

ScrambledSmegs · 11/11/2023 16:46

Sounds like that poster who lost her ironing board in a (iirc) one bedroom flat. I don't think she ever found it.

itsanopefromme · 11/11/2023 16:49

Sure it was completely empty? If not, the oven/microwave or fridge/freezer.

EdithGrantham · 11/11/2023 16:54

I'm sure I've read this exact thread before so I'm voting for glitch in the matrix

That's so weird! Once I dropped a hairbrush while I was brushing my hair. I couldn't find it. I moved out about a year later and thought 'ill find the hairbrush now" but oddly I didn't

Mari9999 · 11/11/2023 16:58

@Feelingcrappy2
I would just leave a post it on the dishwasher saying " if you take one leave one. " I would then not give it anymore thought

poptypingchef · 11/11/2023 16:58

Well I’m not going to sleep tonight thinking about this

BreatheAndFocus · 11/11/2023 16:59

I think you did something with it while you were on auto-pilot. I once lost my lasagne dish. It always lives in the oven but it had disappeared.I looked in all the cupboards, on top of the fridge, etc. Weeks later I found it in the corner of the kitchen under a rucksack. Once I saw it, I remembered that I’d taken it out of the oven, hadn’t had space on the kitchen tops, so had put it on the floor temporarily, then family arrived and I’d tossed the rucksack on top of it to make space and ‘mark’ the lasagne dish so that no-one stepped on it or kicked it.

All that had totally vanished from my brain because I was thinking about a hundred other things. So, I think you decided to remove it at the last minute, were thinking about other things, and dropped it somewhere daft just to get it out of the way.

That or your DH went to empty the dishwasher while you were out of the room, grabbed the lasagne dish first, dropped it from a low height (no noise), quickly hid the evidence, sat back down and pretended he’d never touched the dishwasher.

I had a similar dilemma with a missing remote control and the answer turned out to be at the bottom of the laundry hamper.

settingsafain · 11/11/2023 17:01

Oven?
Fridge?

Glitch in the matrix.

How does one solve/resolve a glitch in the matrix?

Do you think the cat nicked it?

Only if the cat is Garfield...!

This picture will never not be hilarious!

The guilt on the husbands face! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Me and ex dp were sitting opposite each other sharing a massive salad. He jabbed his fork in the salad and went to go get a drink. When he came back he asked "where's my fork?" even though it was right there in front of his face. I was staring at it going "it's right right bloody there!" While he got more and more cross. Turns out the forks were completely flat and he'd speared it at such a perfect angle that it was invisible from where he was looking.

Maireas · 11/11/2023 17:09

When you were putting it in the dishwasher, it cracked so you binned it. You've just forgotten. Like where you put the car keys. It happens.

Copperoliverbear · 11/11/2023 17:12

Do you think it has broken in the dishwasher and all the pieces are in the filter x

Mari9999 · 11/11/2023 17:14

@Feelingcrappy2
If it is in the house it will turn up. Did you check your trash bin?

If I thought that I might have house ghosts, I would hope that they might put themselves to more useful assistance. I might even put out a chore request list.

DoktorPeppa · 11/11/2023 17:14

Definitely a glitch in the matrix. What will eventually happen is one day you will open the cupboard and there will be 2 of them

WhatIsNotWhatIf · 11/11/2023 17:14

Are your bins at the front of your house and do you have a ring doorbell? Maybe check that to see if he put it out there ?

MadeOfAllWork · 11/11/2023 17:16

I’ve thought on this. You say you noticed it was missing as soon as you opened the dishwasher so you can’t have put it away clean.
So this means it was never in the dishwasher in the first place.
You struggled to find a space for it but you gave up and put it somewhere, like back in the oven, with the intention of washing it up today.
In your memory you put it in the dishwasher, so you’ve forgotten the place you put it.

Either that or it’s the spirit of a dead person with some kind of problem with lasagne.

WonderingWanda · 11/11/2023 17:16

I lose my phone all the time and its always in the airing cupboard or my knicker drawer so try looking there.

Seaglass7 · 11/11/2023 17:17

HoHoHoliday · 11/11/2023 15:06

Is it a glass dish? Is it possibly sitting right there in the dishwasher in front of you but you haven't seen it because it's glass?

Or it’s wearing its invisibility cloak!

Summerbee3 · 11/11/2023 17:20

A vegetable peeler and a sharp knife has gone missing from my kitchen recently. We've not long moved here, but I remember using both of them here. We don’t even have a dishwasher so I can’t blame that.

ThisIsntThe80sPat · 11/11/2023 15:23

Sounds like the ghost who stole the grandfather clock chains has moved on to your house after being banished. It's going for lasagne dishes now...

I've tried, and failed, to search for that thread. Was it ever resolved?
