Help me solve this strange mystery?!?!

I’m sorry but something happened last night and I will not move past it until the mystery is solved.

I loaded the dishwasher with the usual plates, cutlery etc and the last thing to be added was a big dish that the lasagne was in. I clearly remember putting it in there as I had to slightly manoeuvre it to get it in (it’s quite a big dish).

Any way………. The cycle finished. The dish is gone. Nowhere to be seen. Wasn’t in the dishwasher when I unloaded it. Not in the house.

What. On. Earth. Is. Going. On.

Either….. 1. I am crazy or 2. The dishwasher ate it.

There is simply no explanation.

How does one solve/resolve a glitch in the matrix?

You have to kill Agent Smith then go to war with robots in Zion - it's like a whole thing.

Probably easier to just buy a new dish

CheshireCat1 · 11/11/2023 17:27

It’s hiding under the bed.

I lose my phone all the time and its always in the airing cupboard or my knicker drawer so try looking there.

How would the OP's lasagne dish get in your knicker drawer?

😉

Jewelspun · 11/11/2023 17:49

@Fannyfiggs thank you, I'm glad someone got the cat reference! 😂

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 11/11/2023 17:49

If it’s a clear Pyrex dish then perhaps you’ve stacked it inside another dish?

CrikeyMajikey · 11/11/2023 17:53

Is it some how stuck to the inside top of the d/w by suction? This happened to me with the dog’s Licky Mat.

KatBurglar · 11/11/2023 17:53

I'm irrationally invested in this. Things have a habit of vanishing at my house too it's definitely not menopausal brain fog, no it isn't.

I found the teabags in the fridge after hunting everywhere in the cupboards for them.

My cat steals stuff for her 'secret project'

QuizzlyBears · 11/11/2023 17:55

Did it get too hot in the dishwasher and shatter?

RockStarship · 11/11/2023 17:58

Maybe it's disappeared to the same place my griddle pan and best chopping knife have located to?!? One disappeared from the dishwasher, the other from the pan drawer, never to be seen again. It's very odd.

WagnersFourthSymphony · 11/11/2023 17:58

You had lasagne on Thursday night and unloaded the dish Friday morning and put it away/mislaid it, and because the lasagne was so brilliant you have just forgotten that last night you had fish?

Feelingcrappy2 · 11/11/2023 18:02

Sorry to report that the mystery is still not solved. Dish still missing. Genuinely trying everything to distract myself from it because I let it get too me a bit too much this afternoon!! It honestly drove me mad. I was running around the house like a mad woman. The place looked like it had been turned over! I have looked absolutely everywhere. Everywhere. It is the most bizarre thing. What is getting to me is that I may never know… even though I put the bloody thing in the dishwasher and that was where it was last seen. The more you think about it the more ridiculous it gets?!

Definitely a glitch in the matrix. What will eventually happen is one day you will open the cupboard and there will be 2 of them

Reminds me of this

Help me solve this strange mystery?!?!

I've tried, and failed, to search for that thread. Was it ever resolved?

The name of that thread was this:

To be amused rather than freaked out? (Woo!!)

The mystery was not solved. Have to say, if I was a ghost, I'd rather hang out in a grandfather clock that a smelly, wet dishwasher.

Bluemoon1881 · 11/11/2023 18:04

I've read hiding household stuff or personal belongings can be a form of emotional abuse. Has anything like this happened before. I've seen me misplacing things then blaming DH. Thankfully this has never been the reason and probably same with your partner but still worth considering.

ALongHardWinter · 11/11/2023 18:06

Got no explanation to offer but watching this thread with interest as it sounds like the sort of thing that happens to me! Over the years,I've had quite a few episodes of things disappearing from where I was absolutely certain I'd put them. On several occasions, I've checked and re-checked maybe 3 or 4 times, then on checking a final time, said item has mysteriously reappeared! Very strange. 🤔

maslinpan · 11/11/2023 18:06

Is there a gap between the worktop and the top of the dishwasher where it got shoved out of sight?

Feelingcrappy2 · 11/11/2023 18:07

It’s 100% not inside the dishwasher (it isn’t a clear dish either) and its quite big. When I opened the dishwasher there was a noticeably big gap where I has loaded it in there to begin with!!! I knew right away that it had been ‘taken’.

I’m unsure about DP, like I said I really don’t think he would play along for this long or this good. He is terrible at joking and cracks within seconds. If he broke it I think I would have heard. I was only in the room next door when I momentarily left the living room and if he dropped it then it would have dropped on tiled kitchen floor which A. Would have been loud and B. Would have most probably damaged the floor tiles as it is a heavy dish.

It can’t be him, he’s watched me turn the whole place over!

This made me laugh a LOT.

Ramalangadingdong · 11/11/2023 18:08

Seeline · 11/11/2023 14:23

Your dp found a stray pan and couldn't fit it in the dishwasher with the bug dish in so swapped them.
He then couldn't face hand washing a dish with baked-on lasagna so binned it and hoped you wouldn't notice.

Edited

😂something tells me you are the voice of experience.

Cakeorchocolate · 11/11/2023 18:08

I have a similar thing. Only mine is a missing towel. Bloody frustrating!

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 11/11/2023 18:09

DH has bunged it back in the oven for some reason only known to him?

KittensandPerverts · 11/11/2023 18:11

Oh thank GOODNESS somebody finally suggested this, pages and pages in...🙄

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 11/11/2023 18:12

Your DH licked it clean and put it straight back in the cupboard?

Jewelspun · 11/11/2023 18:12

Have you checked the bins?
