Help me solve this strange mystery?!?!

I’m sorry but something happened last night and I will not move past it until the mystery is solved.

I loaded the dishwasher with the usual plates, cutlery etc and the last thing to be added was a big dish that the lasagne was in. I clearly remember putting it in there as I had to slightly manoeuvre it to get it in (it’s quite a big dish).

Any way………. The cycle finished. The dish is gone. Nowhere to be seen. Wasn’t in the dishwasher when I unloaded it. Not in the house.

What. On. Earth. Is. Going. On.

Either….. 1. I am crazy or 2. The dishwasher ate it.

There is simply no explanation.

Something like this happened me before where my reading glasses suddenly disappeared. I searched high and low, my DH said he didn’t see them as asked me if I thought he took them. Of course I answered no as why would he.

Anyway, they turned up at the very bottom of my large chest deep freeze in the garage which is away from the house. I never use the deep freezer. At that stage, I had broken up with my DH as I realised he is 100% narcissistic and this was just some sick game he had played on me just to get some sort of kick, to make me think I was going crazy. So maybe watch out for your DP in that regard. I hope not that’s not the case for you.

Someone probably woke up to an extra, unexplainable, lasagna dish in their dishwasher, 10 years ago.

I am dying laughing at this comment!

Good luck solving your mystery OP. All the places it logically could be seem covered by mumsnet.

Op came back to the chains still missing and bought new ones. They ended up doing some kind of ritual to get rid of the spirit!

I remember reading about this and it’s still going end October this year!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 11/11/2023 18:56

OP it’s a pain it’s turned up somewhere and your DH is denying anything to do with it but at least it’s back!

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 11/11/2023 18:34

Well then it has to be your DH OP. Why he'd do it and why he didn't confess is odd.

Because he clearly did it absent mindedly, so has no recollection. Or the OP did it and similarly has no recollection.

We've all done stuff like that now and then. Usually not with quite such a large or obvious item, and usually not very far away, but I've definitely put things down in places I've forgotten I even went to.

Snazzysausage · 11/11/2023 19:07

I don't suppose your dish(and toilet rolls)were cuddled up in the corner with a pair of grandfather clock chains were they? 🤔
If you know you know

The name of that thread was this:

To be amused rather than freaked out? (Woo!!)

The mystery was not solved. Have to say, if I was a ghost, I'd rather hang out in a grandfather clock that a smelly, wet dishwasher.

I was thinking of this one too. Somewhere there is ghost that needs to time the lasagna cooking.

Syndulla · 11/11/2023 19:17

Do you have gas in your house? Do you have a carbon monoxide alarm? If not, please get one. I've heard of people having strange memory lapses when under the influence of carbon monoxide.

Ugghh · 11/11/2023 19:25

Was it a glass Pyrex type dish ?
One of mine shattered on the draining board into a million tiny pieces !
It could have gone down the drain.

I had a similar dilemma with a missing remote control and the answer turned out to be at the bottom of the laundry hamper.

Our non-maiming missing stuff is always Under the Cat.

Remote control? Under the Cat.

Firestick remote? Under the Cat.

Reading glasses? Under the Cat.

Phone? Under the Cat.

Incredibly important piece of paperwork/wallet/bank cards/the only working pen in the house? Under the Cat.

The sock you just dropped when putting them on and has now vanished into thin air? Under the Cat.

Doorkeys because DP is a wally and doesn't put them safely anywhere ? Under the Cat.

The furry bugger seems to want to incubate everything.

DeireadhFomhair · 11/11/2023 19:37

Glad you found it. What I think happened is..... your DP started to empty the dishwasher in the 15 minutes after it finished before you did it, while he had the lasagne dish in his hand you asked him to bring the toilet roll into the spare room.... without thinking he carried them both in & left it there. He just doesn't remember.

MadCatLady27 · 11/11/2023 19:56

This sounds like one of a set of 4 cups we have - just disappeared into thin air, looked everywhere but was never found

The only thing I can think is it ended up in with all the Xmas wrapping paper as it was around that time and got accidentally chucked out

Or OH/ his family were round and it got broken and chucked out but he swears it didn't

A vegetable peeler and a sharp knife has gone missing from my kitchen recently. We've not long moved here, but I remember using both of them here. We don’t even have a dishwasher so I can’t blame that.

This one's easy. They went in the bin with the peelings. I've done this 3 times and only discovered it in time two of those

VisionsOfSplendour · 11/11/2023 20:03

We all do things absent mindedly from time to time but if the husband genuinely doesn't remember any of the elements of this I'd be concerned about memory issues

1982mommaof4 · 11/11/2023 20:16

YABU for now passing this mystery on..

Olika · 11/11/2023 20:40

Glad to hear it got found.

tachetastic · 11/11/2023 20:51

One question OP.

Was alcohol consumed on said night?????

🤔

Ecnerual · 11/11/2023 20:56

I'm glad you solved the mystery OP. I was going to suggest it had dissolved 😂

We had a pot lid go missing at the start of the year. DM was staying with us for a few days so I thought maybe she'd tidied it away, but she said she hadn't and anything she doesn't know the home of she leaves on the counter top anyway. I thought maybe it had smashed, again both DH and DM said they hadn't smashed it.

I emptied the cupboards looking for it and checked in a gap pot lids sometimes get stuck in, wasn't there.

Then this week, ten months after going missing it turned up. DH said it was just in the pot cupboard. The pot cupboard I use pots and pans from every day. The cupboard I have reorganised at least once since then. I bought two new pot lids and rejigged the cupboard so they'd fit.

Rationally I know it must have been in there all along, probably in the gap, but I don't understand how I missed it.

LemonBarley1234 · 11/11/2023 20:58

Your DH defo moved it

Either, he did it as a joke, but now can't admit it because it's gone too far. Or he is really trying to mess with your head

WagnersFourthSymphony · 11/11/2023 21:03

Well, it's nice to have a DH who starts emptying the dishwasher so promptly, even if...

TammyJones · 11/11/2023 21:16

We lost a pillow slip last week.
I knew it would turn up.
Thought it may have got mixed in with duvet cover.
Close it turned out ti be wrapped up in the clean sheets.

CatAndHisKit · 11/11/2023 21:17

Possibly he was so absent minded / can't remember as he's drank quite a lot? Or was absorbed/disrtacted by his phone at the same time he went to unload it?

Still a question though why did he start unloading with re lasgne dish, most people let it cool down for more than 15min unless they need a glass/plate (but not a cooking dish!)

That happened to me once with a new bra, couldn't find it anywhere until months later I was decorating and needed to move some drawers, took the individual drawers out and somehow it had gone down the back and was stuck where it couldn't be seen

Now that's an idea, I wonder if my missing bra has fallen down the back of the drawer. I shall check later. I hope it has. The only other alternative is that it blew off the washing line and has ended up on my neighbour's land. That's too embarrassing to contemplate really.

BorrowersAreVermin · 11/11/2023 21:31

My partner does things like this all the time. Not on purpose, she just does things on auto pilot. When we were first going out and I still lived at home the TV remote went missing. My mum was adamant the only explanation was that DP had taken it. I told her don't be so stupid why would she take it. Mentioned it to DP and she found it in her bag!
