My son didn't believe me about a Jacket Potato shop!

Was just reminiscing about massive jacket potatoes (where have all the big ones gone??)

Which led to pondering the demise of Spud U Like 😭😭😭😭😭

My 22 year old son didn't believe a shop that only sold jacket potatoes ever existed until Google provided evidence.

Anyone else remember Spud U Like?

Or got memories of other eateries that have been retired to memory lane?

I worked in one 🤣

pinkglass9 · 10/11/2023 19:22

Bluewater still has one!

userxx · 10/11/2023 19:23

I know someone who used to work in one, she used to shag her boyfriend on the sacks of spuds. Put me right off eating in there 🤮

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 10/11/2023 19:24

Ha! I was incredulous then, there's a spudulike near me, what do you mean, demise?!

Then I googled and it seems to be one of 3?! Wtf Confused

CapitanSandy · 10/11/2023 19:24

Hey Potato in Sheffield Meadowhall was my favourite! Think it’s gone now though. I could eat a jacket potato everyday!

thistimelastweek · 10/11/2023 19:24

Waynetta Slob named her firstborn spudulike (pronounced spudyoulikay).

Timewentfast · 10/11/2023 19:24

Yes I'm tired of getting teeny tiny potatoes from the supermarkets. Usually the 4 in a bag ones. They are far too small to make a meal now.

That said I got loose ones in Tesco today and they are large so hooray.

Don't know what's going on with potatoes.

I think I do remember the shop you are talking about. I bet they had amazing fillings

EthicalNonMahogany · 10/11/2023 19:24

Wayne and Waynetta Slob called their baby girl Spudulike (spud-yooo-lick-a)

coxesorangepippin · 10/11/2023 19:25

There was one in Leeds I remember

BertieBotts · 10/11/2023 19:25

There was a Mr. Spud stand on my local high street - oftenused to get my lunch there. Brilliant cheap grub, so filling.

Can't remember what the name of the one in Birmingham was but I got a potato there once while waiting for a train connection with chicken curry. Glorious it was.

EthicalNonMahogany · 10/11/2023 19:25

ah sorry cross posted with that one!! Memories....

pinkglass9 · 10/11/2023 19:25

Was still open a year ago in bluey!

My son didn't believe me about a Jacket Potato shop!

I don't know about the spud u like franchise but there are definitely still a few jacket potato shops about. I often see a man on tik tok who runs a spud van too, like a burger van for spuds.

MagentaRocks · 10/11/2023 19:26

There’s one in plymouth

YireosDodeAver · 10/11/2023 19:27

We have one but they aren't like they used to be. You can no longer confidently expect a potato half the size of your head. They are much smaller these days.

connu · 10/11/2023 19:28

I need to visit Spudman in Tamworth. ❤️

inthemiddleofthenightinmydreams · 10/11/2023 19:29

I like a Costco cafe Jacket Potato. Wish spud u like was still a thing.

Teafoot · 10/11/2023 19:31

Ooooh. Round here it was Olivers. Why did they end? I loved a jacket potato, prawn or egg mayo for me. You sometimes still see vans doing them at events, but what happened to the shops?

Nishky32 · 10/11/2023 19:31

The closure of Birmingham’s Mr Egg is an ongoing source if sadness 😂

HurdyGurdy19 · 10/11/2023 19:32

I used to love a Spud U Like potato with garlic butter and chili con carne.

I think the one I went to was in Harrow or Watford. Somewhere around there, anyway.

And yes, agree that you just don't get the massive potatoes in the shops any more. Baking potatoes my arse! I want to eat them, not play marbles with them.

CyberCritical · 10/11/2023 19:33

We've got Jack's baked potato bar, they do baked potatoes or fresh cooked baguettes with the same fillings. No seats just a shop front so you get your potato in its takeaway box and off you go.

RausageSoul · 10/11/2023 19:34

There was also jacket junction. Their chicken tikka and cheese was magnificent

emummy · 10/11/2023 19:35
