My son didn't believe me about a Jacket Potato shop!

Was just reminiscing about massive jacket potatoes (where have all the big ones gone??)

Which led to pondering the demise of Spud U Like 😭😭😭😭😭

My 22 year old son didn't believe a shop that only sold jacket potatoes ever existed until Google provided evidence.

Anyone else remember Spud U Like?

Or got memories of other eateries that have been retired to memory lane?

mind you, there hasn't been a good one around here for a fair few years!

when I lived in Auckland NZ THERE WAS A Frozen Yogurt shop just off Queen St (high street) it was fresh & divine!! Don't think it's there anymore.

There’s still a spudulike in Plymouth!

I was sure I saw a SpudULike in the food court in Plymouth the other day. Turns out I'm right and it's been revived by James Martin.

Oh yes, I used to love Spud-yow-loikes (or Potato-one-prefers for the highfalutin) in Brum. It’s where I discovered the joys of tuna and sweetcorn mayo (c. 1989).

Theres a spud shop in my nearest town which does a vast range of fillings (inc a garlic butter option), but my happy place is a roast pork spud (with apple sauce and crackling natch) eaten in the park while waiting for my son to get off the river. The dogs love this too

Sophisticated it was not. Very busy on Friday and Saturday nights in the 90’s though

Loved Spudulike, perfect half healthy lunch and yes, enormous potatoes!

There used to be more baked potato portable sellers as well, with their lovely baking potato aroma. Haven’t seen one for years!

In Harrow there was a Spud U Like on the main road near the old cinemas. But there was also an outlet in the shopping centre food court, where I had one every day for lunch whilst working nearby (Beans & Cheese or Chilli & Cheese - yum!). We were spoilt!

The concept is on its way back. A jacket potato stall has just opened at a retail park near me.

Oh, Tatties. Be still my beating heart. Garlic mushrooms and cheese were my favourite filling. Also in Cambridge a potato van outside Woolworths which I got my lunch from at least twice a week.

I said to my husband the other day that Subway should start doing jacket potatoes. They've got loads of toppings there already so just need to add jackets to the menu. I'd be in there all the time.
