It crossed my mind for the first time today to stick the heating on for an hour or so

I haven't - but anyone else toasting themselves yet?

I have, for an hour this morning to take the chill off, but then it went off.

Elphame · 14/10/2023 12:57

Still off here. I'm trying to hold off until 1/11 but I am tempted to put it on for an hour for when I get up.

I'm currently sitting working in my sitting room which is a toasty 14C.... It's actually warmer outside.

I have been lighting the coal fire here in the evenings though

Frankinbeans · 14/10/2023 13:03

Yeah we have it on since mid September.

dementedpixie · 14/10/2023 13:05

I never turn it off but control it by a timer and a thermostat which is currently sitting at 16⁰C. It has kicked in a few times as it has got colder outside

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 14/10/2023 13:05

We put ours on last night as everywhere felt a but damp from all the rain and a bit cool. This morning it came on for an hour but that's it.

GrouchyKiwi · 14/10/2023 13:06

We turned ours on yesterday. It's 10C during the day here, and went down to 1C overnight, so it is time. I wanted to wait till November.

GOODCAT · 14/10/2023 13:06

Still off for now

Same here and I've just switched it to on a few minutes ago.

I would honestly rather starve than be cold.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 14/10/2023 13:08

Ours is on a thermostat and it kicked in this morning for a short time so the house must have dropped beneath 16 degrees - that’s the overnight temperature that it’s set at, it’s set at 19 for after school and during the evening.

ditalini · 14/10/2023 13:09

Off because storage heaters 😭

On the upside, when I switch them on next month we will be toasty for the rest of the winter, but this point of Autumn and Spring are always a bugger.

Bluevelvetsofa · 14/10/2023 13:11

Off and will be for a while.

Floralnomad · 14/10/2023 13:16

I am in the SE and although it is colder outside it’s very warm in my house today and I had a fan on overnight last night .

ABeaver8MyThumb · 14/10/2023 13:17

On. It's still expensive but not to the terrifying levels it was last winter.

EmpressSoleil · 14/10/2023 13:22

Off but I'm peri menopausal and starting from around 7pm I get hotter and hotter. The layers start to come off and by bedtime I'm roasting! Still need to put the air con on for a bit some nights. So even though I do sometimes feel a bit chilly in the day I just wrap up as it would feel like a waste to put it on. But then I am here alone so no one else to consider.

cocksstrideintheevening · 14/10/2023 14:14

It's not cold enough yet here so off.

Cynderella · 14/10/2023 15:08

Off.

Last year, we held off until November. It's not quite as expensive this year, but there's no £400 from gov, so I shall be frugal again. Any other year, it'd have been on last night. Last year's Oodies are awaiting.

Neekoh · 14/10/2023 15:09

We've had it on for a few hours a day the past few days. It's cold here and we live in a very old house.

Snap!

AuntieMarys · 14/10/2023 15:11

Mine will go on 5pm till 7.30pm.

EwwSprouts · 14/10/2023 15:14

Still off but had a fire one evening.

Moveoverdarlin · 14/10/2023 15:14

Nope. I’m in the SW and currently sat in the garden in glorious sunshine.

Gymmum82 · 14/10/2023 15:16

No. We’re holding out until 1st November at the earliest. Even then it’ll only be set to 15 degrees and on for 2 hours a day max.

We managed last year with extra layers and hot water bottles. Can’t afford to have it on more than the bare minimum

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 14/10/2023 15:18

Mine is set to 19. I haven't heard it come on

LBOCS2 · 14/10/2023 15:20

Off - our thermostat is set to 16 (or 16.5? I can't remember) and it's hasn't clicked in since before the summer.

I am however wearing a jumper indoors for the first time in a long time.

Pootle40 · 14/10/2023 15:20

9c and sunny in central Scotland today. Heating was on for 30 mins when we woke up!
