It crossed my mind for the first time today to stick the heating on for an hour or so

I haven't - but anyone else toasting themselves yet?

We've still got fans on at night, and patio doors open most of the day. In the South West... It still feels really mild here. We do have an "eco" house with huge glass panels (14ft) downstairs which create a greenhouse effect even if the sun only shines for an hour, it becomes literally like a greenhouse. It's great in the autumn/winter, but in the summer it can become unbearably hot. We don't often think about turning the heating on before December, and then it's usually just to dry clothes, as the house rarely feels cold.

Lottie4 · 14/10/2023 16:42

Haven't set it yet for the winter, but I suspect house isn't cold enough anyway for it to come on. It's normally set at 18c and thermostat is on an inner wall.

1AnotherOne · 14/10/2023 16:42

My heating is off. In the south east. The thermostat keeps clicking trying to turn it on but it’s off at the boiler 😬

What's with all the heating threads?
It's cold outside - 7 degrees, so my heating is on. I am not prepared to be a martyr to the cold, and it is not a moral failing to feel the cold.

Where is it still warm enough in the UK to need a fan?

@RampantIvy

last night was the first night I didn't turn the fan on. All windows & doors still
open wide.

SE. Bit where Hampshire/Berkshire/Surry meet.

still sitting here in shorts & t shirt.

Titsywoo · 14/10/2023 16:27

Nowhere near cold enough in our house yet - hasn't dropped below 20 but we do have very good insulation. This autumn has been fairly warm in the SE so far so no need for coats or anything yet. I hope we can get to November without using it to save some money.

@Titsywoo

I've not even had a cardigan on yet, let alone a coat 🤣

but if I was further north I'd have a real fire going -any excuse!!

RainCloudsInTheSky · 14/10/2023 16:55

Not on yet. Still 20 degrees indoors. Sunny outside in south east. Think temps are set to get cold tonight tho. Hearing is set at 18 so guess it may come on tonight.

@RainCloudsInTheSky

have you got it set to keep it at 18° overnight?

i couldn't cope with that.

MissIndecisive2023 · 14/10/2023 17:01

I put ours on for an hour this morning to make sure it still works!

blackheartsgirl · 14/10/2023 17:04

Yes I have today. It was seven degrees first thing here then dd3 played a footie match in the freezing cold and wind for an hour and a half, she was absolutely frozen by half time and was shivering by the time I got her home. Even a hot shower and soup didn’t warm her up so the heating has been on since 1pm. Shes just got over covid as well

Angrymum22 · 14/10/2023 17:04

No heating yet. We had new double glazing and doors over the summer and they appear to be making a difference.

Ilikewinter · 14/10/2023 17:06

The thermometer is set to 16 and kicked in yesterday morning for the first time. Its was 15 when I got up...🥶 .... so now its on 17 in the day and 16 over night.... its not clicked on all day so far. However, we are due a cold snap apparently in which case the thermometer will be turned up. Hate being cold.

23Oct · 14/10/2023 17:08

Off. My flat is yet to drop below 20C!

Persipan · 14/10/2023 17:09

Well since the boiler seems to have died sometime between lunchtime and now, I would appear to be heating off!

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 14/10/2023 17:10

We’ve had a short blast this morning to warm the house through. It’ll get put on before bedtime. We’re by the coast.

Yes, our lounge was 15° this morning. The dining room was a tropical 16°. 🏝️ 🤣🥶

TimetoPour · 14/10/2023 17:15

Off!!! No heating until October half term.

Wear a jumper
Put on socks
Get a blanket
Have a glass of wine
Eat something spicy

😂

I am not tight, I can afford it but refuse to believe it is winter until then. FYI, I will also be wearing flip flops until then too!

Whalewatchers · 14/10/2023 17:18

On for half an hour this morning and yesterday morning to take the chill out of the air. Hasn't been on this year before that.

Whalewatchers · 14/10/2023 17:19

What sort of houses do people live in? We have a 3 bed semi and it's not dropped below 18 degrees inside so far this year (and it was 6 degrees outside first thing this morning).

Bobbyelvis4ever · 14/10/2023 17:20

Off - in the south of England. But we were still in summer clothes in the early part of the week. Not cold enough for a jacket yet.

mrsbyers · 14/10/2023 17:20

Just put ours in there , it’s saying internal temp is 21 but it felt much chillier than that we got in from a trip out

QuestionableMouse · 14/10/2023 17:21

Mine's on but I've been outside all day and the flat felt really chilly when I got back it! Will turn it off in a it, when I've been in the shower.

UndercoverCop · 14/10/2023 17:21

Off, it's 14 degrees outside and I've been outside most of the day, feels toasty coming in. Thermostat says 22 but it's upstairs, it's likely to be a degree or two colder downstairs

UndercoverCop · 14/10/2023 17:22

Ours is an Edwardian semi so not particularly well insulated and has high ceilings

Desecratedcoconut · 14/10/2023 17:22

On. It's been on a while now and it's dropping to 1c tonight so it will definitely click on tomorrow morning, if not tonight

QuestionableMouse · 14/10/2023 17:22

First floor flat with three external walls and one that joins on the the communal stairs which aren't heated at all. The flat below is empty too so mine tends to really feel cold!
