Actors who are perfectly cast

Following on from the discussion about actors who are not, who are the ones who are?

To me, Gone Girl was beautifully cast. Ben Affleck as Nick, Rosamund Pike as Amy, all of the minor characters...

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool obviously.

Paul Bettany as Stephen Maturin in Master and Commander! Russell Crowe not so much though.

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 14/10/2023 07:55

Emma Chambers as Alice Horton in vicar of dibley. It takes an incredible actor to play the fool and she did it amazingly.

Also Ncuti Gatwa as Eric in Sex Education. Perfection right there

NowNumber5 · 14/10/2023 07:59

Lillia Turner in Eastenders who plays Lily Slater, the daughter of Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner)

Edited to add while we are on the Eastenders note, Bobby Brazier who plays Freddie Slater would be an absolute shoo in to be a young Mick Jagger, if there’s ever a biopic of The Rolling Stones.

Namchange101 · 14/10/2023 08:01

David Dawson as Alfred in The Last Kingdom and Ian Hart as Beocca

The casting of The Crown is perfection on the whole, but in particular Claire Foy as the queen, Matt Smith as Prince Philip, Josh O’Connor as Charles, Vanessa Kirby as Margaret and Emma Corrin as Diana. And of course Charles Dance as Mountbatten.

Matt Smith and Charles Dance in their GOT roles as well. Along with Pedro Pascal, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Peter Dinklage… in fact, most of that cast, too.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 14/10/2023 08:01

Catherine Zeta Jones as Mariette in The Darling Buds of May

Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie as Jeeves & Wooster respectively. I can't read any of the books without picturing them.

Daffodilwoman · 14/10/2023 08:01

Agree with the whole cast of Motherland.
Alun Armstrong in everything he does.
Jodie Cromer and Sandra Oh in Killing Eve.
Trevor Eve in Waking the Dead.
The whole cast of The Royal Family.

SpongeBob2022 · 14/10/2023 08:05

Agree with David Suchet

Johnny Depp in Pirates

Most of the adults in Harry Potter

I also think Greys Anatomy is generally really well cast. But the best cast overall for me for a series would be The Good Wife. I think they're all brilliant.

rookiemere · 14/10/2023 08:14

Lots of these I am nodding to:

  • David Suchet as Poirot of course
  • I'd forgotten Fry and Laurie as Jeeves and Wooster and agree perfection
  • Motherland - yes they are their characters

I add Holliday Grainger as Robin in Strike - just as I pictured her from the book, looks and character wise.

WhyDoesItAlways · 14/10/2023 08:17

Remi malik as Freddie Mercury.

BreakTheChain · 14/10/2023 08:25

Anthony Hopkins - Hannibal

NegativNancy · 14/10/2023 08:28

Alison Steadman as Mrs Bennett

PinkyDinkyDoodle · 14/10/2023 08:29

Amazingly I agree with every one of the above (of the ones that I’ve seen)

Can I add the cast of Sharpe? Every one of them is perfect for their roles.
The whole cast of Hamish MacBeth
John Nettles, Jane Wymark and Laura Howard as Tom, Joyce and Cully Barnaby in Midsomer Murders.

If we could extend a bit to radio:
Nicola Walker in Annika Stranded.
The cast of Falco. And Anton Lesser reading The Mirror and the Light.

PinkyDinkyDoodle · 14/10/2023 08:32

Also (and going back a bit here) Dad’s Army - perfect casting.

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 14/10/2023 08:36

WhyDoesItAlways · 14/10/2023 08:17

Remi malik as Freddie Mercury.

Yes!! I'd forgotten him but he was incredible

Happybara · 14/10/2023 08:38

Catriona Balfe and Sam Heughan as Claire and Jamie in Outlander. I read the first book years ago when it was called Cross Stitch, they are exactly as I imagined them.

NowNumber5 · 14/10/2023 08:41

The four main characters in Gone With the Wind but especially Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara <chef’s kiss>

NotAscoob · 14/10/2023 08:42

Defender90 · 13/10/2023 22:27

Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid, Sarah Lancashire in Happy Valley.

I was coming on to say these! Absolutely perfect casting

Sgtmajormummy · 14/10/2023 08:42

I’m a Tommy Lee Jones fan and will watch anything with him in it. MIB would be nothing without him.

But one film (also directed by him) that was all so well cast was The Homesman. People struggling and failing in their different ways to make early America civilized.
Hilary Swank’s performance was just as believable as in Million Dollar Baby.

And Tom Hanks can usually pour himself into whatever role he chooses.

Needhelp101 · 14/10/2023 08:45

Agree wholeheartedly with so many of these!

100% yes particularly to Joan Hickson and David Suchet as Miss Marple and Poirot.

The 2015 adaptation of And Then There Were None was also brilliantly cast. Charles Dance as Judge Wargrave and Aiden Turner as Philip Lombard were inspired choices.

Yes to Motherland and Sex Education!

The cast of Being Human too (Aiden Turner again).

Molly54320 · 14/10/2023 08:46

Everyone in sex education

Needhelp101 · 14/10/2023 08:46

Oh and all of the cast of The Talented Mr Ripley. Jude Law IS Dickie Greenleaf.

OP posts:
Simonjt · 14/10/2023 08:47

Tom Hardy in legend
Tom Hardy in the drop, I think people forget how versatile he actually is as an actor.

Joe Locke and Kit Connor as Charlie and Nick in Heartstopper, especially when you consider they were both still children in the first two series.

mildlydispeptic · 14/10/2023 08:47

Oh yes: Connor Swindells and 'dad' in Sex Education we're amazingly well matched.

I have to nominate Dan Stevens as Alexander Lemtov in Eurovision: The Story of Fire Saga.

Didn't JK Rowling make it a condition that Robbie Coltrane had to play Hagrid in the film? I think she had him in mind all along.

TeamSleep · 14/10/2023 08:48

Megan Follows as Anne of Green Gables and all the cast in that series were just perfect. Even though the plot veers massively away from the books from the sequel onwards I don’t care as the cast is just so perfect. The new version of the story on Netflix was so bad I couldn’t even get through the first episode.

Bedbynoon · 14/10/2023 08:50

@TeamSleep i agree with the Netflix one. The main character of Anne I didn’t like at all.
