Actors who are perfectly cast

Following on from the discussion about actors who are not, who are the ones who are?

To me, Gone Girl was beautifully cast. Ben Affleck as Nick, Rosamund Pike as Amy, all of the minor characters...

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool obviously.

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in The Last of Us, they work perfectly together.

Sarah Lancashire in Happy Valley.

Ian McKellen as Gandalf.

Emma Thompson in Love Actually (and every role she’s ever had tbh, she’s an incredible actress!), but especially Love Actually. The subtle smoothing of the bedspread gets me every time.

Neil Patrick Harris in It’s a Sin. A tiny role for such a big actor but he plays it beautifully.

Soooo many more but those were the first that came to mind!

Maggie Smith as Jean Brodie, Professor McGonagall and Violet Crawley. All wonderful. Miles Teller as Rooster in Maverick.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 14/10/2023 00:28

Hugh Grant as Phoenix Buchanan

foxlover47 · 14/10/2023 00:35

Phillip Glenister as Gene Hunt and of course Keely Hawes as Alex "Bolly knickers "

Margot Robbie in Barbie. Real life doll

Dominic West as Fred West in appropriate adult, he was so so good. I wasn't that aware of him tbh, but he's also really good in the wire. I also saw a video on YouTube of him and his wife doing a tour of their house and was shocked how posh and luvvie he is (in a good way) awesome actor.

Lonesomefetter · 14/10/2023 02:29

The annoying husband of fleabag sister was great, he was in Mr Mercedes lately and is similarish, so not that great an actor then. I disagree that Andrew thingy is good as hot priest, he's not hot for a start, that whole plot line left me cold.

Friends casting was iconic with hindsight. Ross especially.

Joanna Lumley as Amanda's mam in motherland was absolutely chefs kiss.

Emilia Clarke in me before you.

Jenna Ortega as Wednesday.

Bryan Cranston as Walter White.

CarrieMoonbeams · 14/10/2023 03:01

I agree with so many of these. Joan Hickson as Miss Marple, the entire cast of The Remains of the Day, Robbie Coltrane as Cracker, also Ken Stott as Rebus.

Charley50 · 14/10/2023 03:11

The whole cast of Sex Education.

The original cast of New Tricks: James Bolam, Dennis Waterman, Amanda Redman and Alun Armstrong.

Oh god yes! I watch series 1-7 on repeat.

Catsmere · 14/10/2023 03:28

All the main characters in the '95 P&P!

Michael Kitchen. Brilliant actor in anything (he can play some really creepy villains) but he was so good as DCS Foyle in Foyle's War.

Ian McKellen in Cold Comfort Farm. Absolutely hilarious as Amos. "There'll be no butter in hell!"

Jason Isaacs in anything. Only man who could make me like that long blond hair. And as Hook ... oh, my. fans self Loathed the film, loved him.

Ken Branagh as Hamlet. Can't imagine sitting through the four-hour film with anyone else. Also that moustache was very cute and hid the fact that he has no lips. 😄

Catsmere · 14/10/2023 03:32

Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch. In fact everyone in To Kill a Mockingbird was great.

Brenda Blethyn as Vera

John Thaw and Kevin Whatley as Morse and Lewis

Catsmere · 14/10/2023 03:43

Alan Rickman as Mr Slope.
Geraldine McEwan as Mrs Proudie.
Nigel Hawthorne as Archdeacon Grantly.
Donald Pleasance as Mr Harding.

Everyone in Sleepers (1991) - standouts were Warren Clarke, Nigel Havers, and especially David Calder.

PaminaMozart · 14/10/2023 03:45

John Thaw and Dennis Waterman in The Sweeney.

George Cole and Dennis Waterman in Minder

Lonesomefetter · 14/10/2023 03:51

Aiden Gillan in game of thrones, also queer as folk actually all of queer as folk

EnoughIsay · 14/10/2023 03:52

Ben Kingsley in Sexy Beast and as Ghandi

Gent Hunt and Bolly Knickers - actually the entire cast

The entire cast of Call My Agent especially Andrea.

The woman who played the queen in the first series of The Crown. She was amazing I thought.

So many - I love it when the actor fades away, and you get immersed in the character. How do they do it? Incredible skill imo. Some actors I am aware of and know they are acting.
