It's worried about the rise of anti-semitism. Do you think the same thing will happen here?

Are they banning pro Israel demos? Not worried about Islamaphobia?

Superfoodie123 · 12/10/2023 22:03

I bloody hope not because palestine is being wiped out this minute. It's a tragic unthinkable day for democracy and human kind when you can't protest against literal genocide

I’m not very knowledgeable in all of this so don’t want to say the wrong thing, but can someone explain how supporting Palestine is antisemitism?

What if people are supporting Palestine because of all the civilian deaths and restrictions that have been going on for over 70 years? Same with how people were supporting Iraqi/Afghanistani civilians? Ukrainian civilians?

I keep seeing the word antisemitism online in regards to this situation and would like some clarity

I don't think there have been any pro Israel demonstrations in France. They're probably too scared to leave home.

Worried about the "Rise in antisemitism"

What- Saying that Israel shouldn't murder innocent Palestinians. That's "antisemitism" these days...

Remind me who crossed the border on Saturday and beheaded babies and took teenagers hostage...

Are you saying Israel has no right to defend itself? And if Hamas is operating gout of Gaza, what choice does Israel have?

Or rather, why would they need to demonstrate when the entire French establishment supports Israel.

Antisemitism can lead to deaths. It's always wise to minimise violence.

Oh give over.
You must know how Israel have targeted Palestinian civilians for decades including school children. I'm so sick of the ignorance on here.

I think pro-palestinians were demonstrating in the streets before Israel attacked Gaza, they were celebrating the attack that Hamas had made on Israel.

Antisemitism is hatred of Jewish people including those living in Israel. Hamas hates Jews and they are the governing body in Gaza where many Palestinians live. The rest live in the West Bank and are governed by Fatah.
Hamas has as their charter death to ALL Jews. They committed the worst massacre of Jewish life since the end of World War 2 last Saturday. So supporting Palestine is supporting hatred of Jews. Antizionism OTOH is acting against Israel as the Jewish state and its right to exist. Hope that makes a very complex issue clearer namechange10894

Yes the atrocities Hamad committed are horrific. But the very next day Israel blew up a bunch of tower blocks and then a university on live TV. Frankly both sides are horrific and I have no doubt there will be worse to come before this ends.

etmoietmoietmoi · 12/10/2023 22:14

No, I don't think the same thing will happen here. The situation in France is more tense than the UK. A much larger Jewish population and there's been violent antisemitic attacks (and murders). Tens of thousands of Jews have left France in light of this over the last decade or so.

Apartheid leads to deaths.
Israel should stop being an apartheid state.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 12/10/2023 22:17

Well this is scary

Circumferences - and I am sick of the thinly veiled antisemitism.

Yes the people confined to a small area with no food water or electricity are the aggressors. Same old same old, hamas does not=palestinian civilians.

sunshinesupermum · 12/10/2023 22:25

Just watching French news channel (DP is French) the 12 year old boy kidnapped by Hamas is French. Heaven help him and all the other hostages including British ones. Hamas shows no mercy like their fellow terrorists ISIS etc.

FedUpOfItA · 12/10/2023 22:25

France has always had a problem with antisemitism. The UK is definitely more tolerant so I can't imagine it happening here. However, I can imagine Muslims being attacked here. I think they have a much harder time.

I cannot believe these threads. Did all of you also think that killing bin Laden wasn't justified because 9/11 was only just revenge against an aggressor? No, you didn't.

sunshinesupermum · 12/10/2023 22:29

FedUpOfItA There have been many more antisemitic attacks here in the UK since Saturday. Kids at Jewish schools have been told not to wear their blazers so they can't be identified as Jewish. Security has been stepped up at schools and synagogues.
France has the 3rd largest Jewish community in the world after Israel and the USA. They also have a large Muslim community.

The media have backtracked on this statement as it is not true and the IDF have said they cannot confirm if this happened to baby's.
