It's worried about the rise of anti-semitism. Do you think the same thing will happen here?

It's because they use them as human shields. Thats on them, not on Israel.

So Israel can murder children and have zero accountability? That is disgusting. They are openly bombing schools, it has nothing to do with human shields. FYI Israel uses Palestinians as human shields. See footage from B'tselem an Israeli human rights group.

Is there any reason Egypt won't or can't accept those fleeing Gaza?

I could hazard a guess that they are worried about Hamas sneaking in with the refugees. See, Egypt don't want them either. In fact, I don't see any of the Arab states rushing to help them. But that shouldn't surprise me. I'm old enough to remember that they didn't do anything to help the ethnic albanian muslims when they were being slaughtered either.

Edited

They could allow women and children across. From what I understand, Israel aren't allowing people to leave though.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 12/10/2023 22:49

Egypt slammed that border shut.

I cannot believe these threads. Did all of you also think that killing bin Laden wasn't justified because 9/11 was only just revenge against an aggressor? No, you didn't.

Well I marched against the war in Iraq and was against the USA’s actions in Afghanistan. This is probably more relevant! Attacking Hamas leadership would be one thing but this collective punishment of 2.2 million citizens half of whom are children is simply wrong.

Egypt slammed that border shut.

Too fucking right - I bet they couldn't close the gates fast enough, probably ran.

Yes the people confined to a small area with no food water or electricity are the aggressors. Same old same old, hamas does not=palestinian civilians.

Hamas are the elected government of Gaza.

Antisemitism is hatred of Jewish people including those living in Israel. Hamas hates Jews and they are the governing body in Gaza where many Palestinians live. The rest live in the West Bank and are governed by Fatah.
Hamas has as their charter death to ALL Jews. They committed the worst massacre of Jewish life since the end of World War 2 last Saturday. So supporting Palestine is supporting hatred of Jews. Antizionism OTOH is acting against Israel as the Jewish state and its right to exist. Hope that makes a very complex issue clearer namechange10894

Keep this post handy for next time someone tries to claim that no one equates criticising Israel’s treatment of Palestinians with anti semitism

Islamophobia is rife in France. I don’t think it will happen here.

itto · 12/10/2023 22:55

There have been plenty of marches for Israel in France in different cities, attended by many politicians. What are you on about?

flufferknutter · 12/10/2023 22:57

Spambod · 12/10/2023 22:52

Hamas are the elected government of Gaza.

I don't think the Palestinians have any choice and there haven't been elections for years. Hamas have sort of inflicted themselves on the Palestinians. They also don't give a damn about them.

I'm on about the fact that France have banned all pro-palestinian demonstrations. What are YOU on about.

How so? Surely it's at the hands of Hamas.

Being honest this attitude is something I just cannot respect. It feels disingenuous. Ultimately, if you believe that the current course of action is justified then just be honest and say you think it’s ok for Israeli leadership to view Palestinian lives as expendable in the pursuit of a safe Jewish state. It’s 100% fine to talk about the role Hamas has had in this, but to completely erase the fact that it is Israeli leaders who are ultimately making the decision to attack Gaza, is low.

France has always had a problem with antisemitism. The UK is definitely more tolerant so I can't imagine it happening here. However, I can imagine Muslims being attacked here. I think they have a much harder time.

Are you kidding me? I've experienced plenty antisemitism in the UK. An older boy called my four year old a murderer today because she's Jewish. You can't even find any Jewish kids books in my local libraries meanwhile there are plenty of books celebrating all religions.

Someone who isn't a British Jew should not comment on whether or not the UK is tolerant to Jews or not.

I have Jewish friends and know of Jewish academics who deplore Israel. Does this mean they are anti semitic? It's a genuine question

I think you are lying for fake internet props

itto · 12/10/2023 23:02

Very unsurprising behaviour from France. The government bans anything that doesn’t fit its narrative. But why on earth would you suggest Jews are too scared to go out? Scared from what? Pro-Israel groups evidently went out in large numbers.

what do you think of all the Israeli human rights groups, academics and journalists who are against the oppression of Palestine?

I am against what the Israeli authorities are doing in Gaza right now. I am in no way anti semitic.

Anothenamechange · 12/10/2023 23:03

It has been confirmed multiple times that is it in fact true.

I don’t believe for a moment that Jews for Justice for Palestinians are anti-Semitic either. They are however, strongly opposed to violence against civilians, regardless of who the perpetrators are.

FromEden · 12/10/2023 23:19

Probably because Jews all around the world are now being targeted and Hamas have called for a day of jihad tomorrow. Jewish schools around the world are being closed for the day, even here in the US. Jewish people are scared.

babysharkdoodoodedoodedoo · 12/10/2023 23:22

Hamas did this. They are barbarians and as well as raping, kidnapping, torturing and murdering innocent Israeli civilians, they’re now murdering their own people.

Bergmum · 12/10/2023 23:26

Superfoodie123 · 12/10/2023 22:31

Supporting palestine is supporting hatred of Jews, are you serious? So does supporting Israel mean I hate Muslims?

The low level of intelligence of some of these mumsnet folk is mind blowing.

No because the Jews don't hate muslims

DeeCee77 · 12/10/2023 23:29

All protests should be legal. That's democracy.

Palestine is not a democracy though, they are governed by a terrorist group.

I'm in Toronto Canada and our school board released a statement about safety because of the threat tomorrow as well as our police Chief. People are rightfully scared. Tomorrow Hamas has called to attack Jews everywhere. My son's school had swastikas drawn all over it this week. My Jewish friends are scared. I'm scared.

There is no evidence that babies were beheading. All fake news !!!
