If cannabis was made legal, would you use it?

I would be interested in trying the funny version to see if it helped with pain. Not interested in smoking it. I’ve never smoked in my life and I’m not going to start

No, but that’s because I’ve used it in the past and never been a fan. If I’m going to be altering my sense of reality I’d prefer it to make me uninhibited and euphoric! I don’t use drugs nowadays but whenever I’ve used cannabis it’s made me lethargic and woolly-headed which outweighs the sense of relaxation/fun. Nowadays if I want to feel lazy, a bit stupid and hungry, I just let my kids wake me up at 5.30!

Toddlerteaplease · 30/09/2023 14:28

Nope. Would never take any drugs.

Caffeine? Alcohol? Prescription meds?

No, I get all the kicks I need from booze and fags.

Soubriquet · 30/09/2023 14:30

I don’t drink and I don’t smoke either so it would be something for me to try

I would for Parkinson’s or pain relief. Otherwise no.

littlripper · 30/09/2023 14:32

Yes. It is illegal and I use it every night for my arthritis pain, it is the only way I sleep. My father (Jamaican) has used it for pain relief all his life. No side effects, it is, for me, a miracle drug. I wish it was legal, I am tempted to move where it is. DH buys it for me from a man he works with who grows it in his poly tunnel in his garden.

Believeinmarmite · 30/09/2023 14:32

Yep, I used to use it years ago and enjoyed it, I wouldn't now because I am older and wiser and the stuff out there is super strong and you don't know what your getting. But if I could be sure of what I was smoking because it could be bought from a reputable source I would use it occasionally.

squareyedannie · 30/09/2023 14:34

Yes. It's proven to work for my bowel disease.
There are many different types of cannabis. It would be amazing if more research was done.
At the moment I take codeine for chronic pain. I would much rather be able to take a plant-based medicine if it worked the same way.

fruitbrewhaha · 30/09/2023 14:34

Yes if it helped me. I don’t get the “I don’t use drugs” answers. Do you never take paracetamol? Cannabis has some useful
properties for pain relief, Parkinson’s, cancer treatment. I’m fact many but because big pharma don’t own it, they don’t promote it. Who makes money from a weed?

RunningAndSinging · 30/09/2023 14:34

I would try it but wouldn’t want to use it regularly (except for pain relief it it helped and I was in pain) for fear of becoming paranoid.

RaisedByHedgehogs · 30/09/2023 14:35

Yes. I would love to be able to grow my own.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 30/09/2023 14:35

Its not for me due to the mental health issues it can cause. I don't want to go down that road.

Caffeine? Alcohol? Prescription meds?

Presume that poster means 'any drugs that can get me arrested for possession'.

MiddleagedBeachbum · 30/09/2023 14:36

I do currently use it, alcohol is far more damaging in my opinion.
My friend home grows it, to create the healing oil for people. So I know it’s source and the people involved.
It’s ridiculous it’s illegal tbh.
It dates back to cotton and hemp farmers in the USA, there’s no way it should be illegal.

I use edibles when the pain is bad. They're like teeny pineapple cubes (the boiled sweets variety!). Very effective for pain relief, but you have to time it right. Work finished for the day, dinner standing by ready to eat, and bedtime on the horizon. I take a very small amount - maybe quarter of a cube, using a pill cutter.

The relief from pain is welcome and immense. Saved me from going down a very dark path tbh.

wejammin · 30/09/2023 14:37

Yes, I would. Currently use CBD every day and it's fabulous stuff for anxiety and bringing calm. Would like to have the option to include THC as well.

Soubriquet · 30/09/2023 14:38

I’ve had a look online for edibles and stuff like that and it seems to be very expensive

It is legal right now in the UK for pain relief. You just need a prescription.

It's not on the NHS but there are loads of private clinics that can and do prescribe it and then the prescription can be delivered. You get a known strength from a known source with no money going to support criminal activity.

You just need to search online for a medical cannabis clinic, there are loads that offer either in person or video consultations. You will have to show that you have tried a few other treatments first.

LittlePlumTree · 30/09/2023 14:38

No it being illegal is not the reason I wouldn’t take it (I know plenty of people that smoke it) I don’t use it because I don’t want to and I don’t take any drugs and never have and not referring to alcohol or caffeine 🙄

OnAFrolicOfMyOwn · 30/09/2023 14:39

@AutumnCrow Very effective for pain relief, but you have to time it right

What are the risks of mistiming? I'm not interested in cannabis for recreational purposes but I would try it for pain relief.

PosterBoy · 30/09/2023 14:39

I'd like something mild - not skunk strength stuff that's available these days. And ethically sourced.

This is true, I did this for a short time but it was crazy expensive, about 20x the price we pay now.

I use it to avoid opiate pain killers - they really are the worst things for my body

Thefacethatlaunchedathousandchips · 30/09/2023 14:40

I've tried it and it just made me paranoid, ridiculously, uncontrollably hungry, sleepy and disorientated. Not my thing really
