If cannabis was made legal, would you use it?

I would be interested in trying the funny version to see if it helped with pain. Not interested in smoking it. I’ve never smoked in my life and I’m not going to start

Too general a question — different strains are so different. Last time I smoked some, it just made me slightly sweaty and paranoid in a fuzzy way. A glass of red wine had a far nicer effect.

Doggymummar · 30/09/2023 15:40

It pretty much is legal if it's for pain relief. You can get a prescription for it. You won't get high though they take that bit out. Lady whose dog I walk in her 80s had it for ms and a friend has it for a broken back.

WereYouListeningToTheDudesStory · 30/09/2023 15:40

Yes, I would jump at the chance to take it. It's as effective for my arthritis pain as morphine, if not more so.

I use it now when I have to, but it would be nice to do so legally.

Personally, I think it's ridiculous that I'm allowed to send myself sideways on morphine, I'm allowed to knock myself out with sleeping tablets, and I could drink myself insensible every single day from morning until night, but heaven forbid I smoke a plant that will take my pain levels down from an eight to a three, with the side effect that I'll feel a bit dozy and laugh louder at the TV.

Medical cannabis doesn't have THC removed, that's if you buy CBD oil.

I wouldnt because Im not a fan.
Maybe if I had some severe pain, and it helped with it. But recreationally, I cant think if anything worse.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 30/09/2023 15:48

I have a lot of friends in California where it is legal - my aunt swears by the salve for her arthritis.

TinyRebel · 30/09/2023 15:50

Nope. Don’t seem to have squidgy black around these days, just the really stinking skunkweed that leads to mental health issues and general twattishness.

HelpMeGetThrough · 30/09/2023 15:50

Yep, in a heartbeat. None of my other painkillers work and chronic pain is shit, so I'd have no problems using it.

Zero shits given about being judged either. Who really cares what others think.

Dontjudgeme101 · 30/09/2023 15:52

No l would t.

glasgow1983 · 30/09/2023 15:53

Probably. One of the issues with cannabis is that you don't have much choice as to the strain, and thus its strength and effects.

The social aspect of rolling and smoking a joint with friends is nice, and it's nice when you reach the point of being "tipsy".

I do think legalisation and selling to the public would be generally bad for society, as we have shown with other recreational drugs (nicotine, caffeine, alcohol) that too many people are unable to consume sensibly and in moderation.

Dontjudgeme101 · 30/09/2023 15:53

Sorry, no l wouldn’t.

DotStripe · 30/09/2023 15:53

Not for me. I've tried it before and I don't enjoy it, it makes me paranoid.

WereYouListeningToTheDudesStory · 30/09/2023 15:53

I also think it's not fair for some to say they had a bad experience with it so no one else should be allowed it.

Yes, it doesn't suit everyone. Some people find the drowsiness overwhelming or it can trigger feelings of anxiety. Some people find it difficult to cease.

However, lots of us don't experience that. I don't get overwhelmingly drowsy, I don't get paranoid, and when it runs out, my only thought is oh well. I have zero withdrawal symptoms.

Lots of people are allergic to/have a bad reaction to codeine. That doesn't mean you get to tell me I'm not allowed it if I need it. It's irrelevant to me whether it suits you. It suits me.

Actually CBD is from a different plant.

megletthesecond · 30/09/2023 15:55

No.

BloodandGlitter · 30/09/2023 15:57

Doesn't stop me now, kills the anxiety better than any medication and boy have I tried them all. Brains already fucked so I don't need to worry about that Grin I don't touch alcohol because that does wreck my mental health.

This is why legalization and regulation is important. Different strains have different qualities. With regulation you know what you're buying, it's just like food or clothes shopping, you can read reviews as well. You know exactly what's going to happen and how much to take. The way it is now where it's illegal you don't know what you're getting. It can be laced with chemicals or other drugs leading to overdose. With legality comes information which serves everyone.

ShutTheDoorBabe · 30/09/2023 16:01

Yea. I use it now tbh

AntiHop · 30/09/2023 16:07

No, because of the evidence that it increases the risk of psychosis.

petermaddog · 30/09/2023 16:09

smoke for chemo
half a gummie to go to bed

AmyFFismyhomegirl · 30/09/2023 16:11

I think I might. I smoked a bit (once every 6 months on average) when I was in my twenties. Last time made me feel awful though and I put it down to it being much stronger. Haven't used for over 20 years and wouldn't do so atm when it's illegal as I have seen the severe MH issues it can cause. The lack of regulation freaks me out because you dont know the quality/strength now-I'd also lose my job if I got caught (however unlikely).
If it was regulated I would be likely to give it a try. I'd be particularly likely to if it helped with my insomnia.

bombastix · 30/09/2023 16:12

I have very bad back pain - broke a disc a few years ago and took a lot of opiates. It still hurts and get cramps and spasms in legs.

Curious if anyone here finds cannabis to help this sort of pain? I do not like taking codeine etc

Iwantmybed · 30/09/2023 16:32

Yes, I have edible gummies and THC oil in low doses. Much better than a glass of wine to relax of an evening and wears off in a few hours and no hangover.

LunaNorth · 30/09/2023 16:37

Yup.

Would, and do. Microdose for restless legs. Beats getting addicted to codeine.

Blueeyedmale · 30/09/2023 16:42

I used to smoke it as a teenager now the smell just makes me want to vomit
