If cannabis was made legal, would you use it?

I would be interested in trying the funny version to see if it helped with pain. Not interested in smoking it. I’ve never smoked in my life and I’m not going to start

To the post comparing caffeine to cannabis.. I don't think so! Caffeine has been proven to have health benefits- can't say same for cannabis (other than medical cannabis)

Chickpea17 · 30/09/2023 15:15

No absolutely not. But I could understand some people who would take it for pain relief only.

BreakTheChain · 30/09/2023 15:16

No the smell of it makes me feel sick. I think if I was in pain I would be inclined to try the CBT oil stuff but never smoke it

Nothingbuttheglory · 30/09/2023 15:17

No, I have tried it and it made my anxiety a thousand times worse.

I have tried the CBD oil you can purchase and it’s like licking a bin that has decomposed plants in it. Was awful

No, I'm not a fan.
I went to loads of outdoor gigs this summer and swear I was passively stoned at them all.
I'm not necessarily against it, it's just not for me

Ostryga · 30/09/2023 15:20

I already take medical cannabis for epilepsy. I am tapering off my seizure meds and haven’t had a tonic clonic for months. So yes, absolutely!

smilesup · 30/09/2023 15:21

Definitely buy I enjoy edibles for both recreational and medical reasons already
And will have the odd toke now and then.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 30/09/2023 15:22

No. I didn't like it when I tried it as a student. Also left my ex because if it. He was stoned most evenings which was deeply unattractive.

LubaLuca · 30/09/2023 15:23

Yeah, I would without giving it much thought. I'm not stupid enough to say 'I would never take drugs'. I was taking them before I could consent to taking them, albeit licensed drugs under medical supervision.

Escapingtherealityoflife · 30/09/2023 15:25

Not for the high, but if I had a painful condition not controlled with regular medication then yes.

Itsnamechange · 30/09/2023 15:26

Not recreationally because I've tried it and it just made me dizzy and nauseous. I would for medical reasons though

FussyPud · 30/09/2023 15:26

No. The smell is repugnant and gives me migraines.

OhMyFriend · 30/09/2023 15:27

Maybe. Last time I got stoned was 20 years ago and I had a rotten time smoking something that was much stronger than I thought. If I could buy dope knowing exactly how strong it was and that it hadn’t been produced or imported harming others, then I might.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 30/09/2023 15:27

I think it's pretty obvious that when people say 'I would never take drugs' they mean recreationally and/or illegally. That doesn't make them stupid, it just means they expected people to understand what they meant in the context of the discussion (which most people probably would).

PoseasRadicalActuallyMisogynistic · 30/09/2023 15:28

No, I’ve tried it three times, it made me feel like shit and now I can’t stand the smell. Even had to start bringing my washing in when my neighbours son has his after work joint.
Plus the supply chain is evil and responsible for trafficed women and county lines.

14blackcrows · 30/09/2023 15:30

No. Its not for me. I've trued it a few times and really didn't enjoy it.
I do think it should be legalised tho. Some people enjoy it.
Obviously it effects some people badly but when you compare it to alcohol which effects some people badly too.. statistically there's a much higher amount of people who react badly to booze and get addicted to drinking than there are to weed. And it's not really because weed is illegal because you can stroll out into the street pretty much anywhere in the UK and buy weed within 5mins. It's readily available to people.
I don't see why if alcohol is legal that weed shouldn't be.

It's not obvious on a thread asking if you would if it WAS legal and the option was there to self medicate with ie like you would with paracetamol or aspirin or Kalms or to relax with like you might with a glass of wine.

junbean · 30/09/2023 15:31

It's legal where I live and I use it to treat pain, insomnia, anxiety, ptsd, and migraine. I use gummies and I make homemade cannabutter. It's very very good for you when made edible, especially when you keep the botanicals intact like in cannabutter. I'm about to make some brownies with it today. One of the best things about it being legal is the regulation- you know it doesn't contain anything toxic, and you have all the strain information like strength, characteristics like energized or sleepy, etc. People post reviews online so you know how it might make you feel or if it's good for pain, etc. It's wonderful. I've gotten little help from doctors but cannabis makes me feel almost normal again. You can take it in small amounts and basically miscrodose so you don't even get high. The only drawback is that it's expensive (what isn't tho) especially the taxes. My insurance pays for prescription meds but doesn't pay for the one medicine that actually works and with no side effects. I always shop the sales so it's not too bad. I hope it becomes legal everywhere soon, as it's also impossible to travel with. The legal issue is so silly to me, especially with how much the sales boost economy and taxes benefit communities.

HScully · 30/09/2023 15:31

If it helped with a medical issue. Then potentially. However I know many people who have had mental health problems after smoking it. And a couple linked to suicide. So I would think twice. However I also see the damage alcohol can do and I think twice before having a drink too. Its a depressant, it bothers me when someone is down and they get offered a stiff drink. if it was a depressant in tablet form I can't imagine people would partake.

I have tried it in the past and I do drink on occasions

Itsnamechange · 30/09/2023 15:33

What do you think medical cannabis is? I don't smoke it but cannabis has many many medical benefits, pain relief, anxiety relief, helps with parkinsons, epilepsy.

cannabis and medical cannabis are the same thing. Medical contains a lot more THC- the psychoactive compound. Smoking isn't healthy of course, but edibles made with cannabis have an incredible amount of health benefits. You should do some research, it's amazing.

Wheredideveryonego · 30/09/2023 15:34

Wishiwasatailor · 30/09/2023 15:13

It depends on the strain strength and reason. There isn’t one type of cannabis there’s hundreds of different strains with different effects. Pain relief, reduces anxiety, improves Parkinson’s symptoms, increase appetite, epilepsy management, reduces menopause symptoms.

Many medication drugs have their roots from plants (digoxin from foxglove, aspirin from salicylic acid, cocaine from cocoa etc) it’s why drug companies fund expeditions into jungles etc to collect new plant samples. Lots of abused drugs are also used in medical settings how many people had heroin for labour pain or their kids for procedural pain or had ketamine for sedation. Just because its also used as a street drug doesn’t mean it’s not helpful.

in 100 years i believe it will be routinely used and people will be surprised that it was illegal and that smoking, alcohol and chemotherapy were commonplace.

I think stain strengths thing is a big part of why legalizing it could improve things. I've tried it a few times but always found it too much, I usually just became tired and kinda too shy to speak, even among people i know well. Probably because my friends are seasoned smokers and what they use is far too strong for someone like me

When we were abroad and it was legal some one suggested I try a really low dose edible and I enjoyed it. I could see myself using it semi regularly if I knew exactly what I was getting

14blackcrows · 30/09/2023 15:35

And as for caffiene! I absolutely hate it and cannot believe people don't take it seriously. I've had to give it up completely because of the impact its had on my health.
Amd I'm not anti drugs. I'm someone whose tried pretty much every drug under the sun.
But there are some just not for me. I'd genuinely prefer LSD to caffiene.
Caffiene gives me heart palpitations and panic attacks.. and gave me some sort of adrenal problem. And I've never drunk that much of it, I was drinking on average 1 cup of coffee a day.. I still got these issues.
Energy drinks too. Horrific stuff.
Don't let my kids near anything like that.
But you see some people put there letting their kids drink cans of monster! Insane.

marketing101 · 30/09/2023 15:36

No I took strong medical cannabis for three months and it just made me feel sick. Zero help with pain. The smell and taste in the morning were gross
