Help my adult son is missing

Aliceinunderland · 23/09/2023 21:47

My son is 23 and he has been missing since 11th September. I reported him missing the same day as it was out of character for him to miss work. He walked out of the house with nothing other than his bank card. His phone hasn't been turned on since the night he left.
So far I have:
Contacted all of his friends and contacts
Done a social media campaign
Battled with the police and filed two official complaints due to failures to investigate
Worked with missing people uk to do a media campaign
Handed out posters in the area that we have had one sighting. Unfortunately this is not our local area so it is difficult to go every day.

What else can I do? I've emailed and called every service I can find to share his photograph. Is there anything else anyone can suggest? I'm beyond devastated and will try anything at this point. Thank you for reading.

Can you join a local Luton face book page and get his photo up there?

Freezingcoldinseptember · 23/09/2023 22:26

Or Google some Luton pubs /clubs and email them his picture? Even a conformation he is ok..

Mademetoxic · 23/09/2023 22:26

Just praying that you hear something soon.
I hope you have a good support system in place for you, support of family, friends and loved ones.

I do so hope that your lovely son is found safe and soon 💔

OllieCollieWoo · 23/09/2023 22:27

Contact the charities who assist homeless people e.g. provide meals, showers, laundry facilities etc.

KateyCuckoo · 23/09/2023 22:28

What is his name? I hope you find him soon.

outerlope · 23/09/2023 22:28

I am hoping desperately for your son's safe return OP and I am so sorry the police are not helping with this.

Hellocatshome · 23/09/2023 22:29

Hopefully someone who lives in Luton will be able to tell you the best Facebook groups to post on to reach people in that area.

Also agree to contact homeless charities in the area, they won't tell you if they have seen him but if they do know him they can encourage him to get in touch with you.

Silkiebunny · 23/09/2023 22:31

I am so sorry and hope you find him safe soon.

Do you think the sighting in Luton would be him? A flight abroad might be a possibility, don't know if there's any way that can be tracked, difficult if police aren't being helpful. Maybe try complaint to police.

Otherwise would September 11th mean anything to him as in 2001 terror attacks. Probably not especially given his young age.

Only other thing I could think of is maybe try a local radio station though normally best clues come from people who know the person and seeing if they have said anything. Any car that could be traced? Phone calls? MP might be able to push police a bit. Can you visit were he lived for clues?

I also saw another of your posts were you mentioned someone had poured petrol over your home, those people couldn't have found him could they? Probably not but may worth mentioning to police.

Aliceinunderland · 23/09/2023 22:33

His name is Caidyn Tait. I know that's identifying information but at this point I just need to find him.

To answer some questions:
He left his passport at home so he can't leave the country
I don't know why he left. He told his brother he was going for a walk but never returned.
We know he was definitely seen sleeping rough because he used a passerby's phone to call an estate agents in Kent. He was due to move into his own property a week after he disappeared. He called to ask for the deposit back.
He has no connections to the area and I don't know how he got there.

There are some suggestions I haven't thought of though so thank you very much.

I’ve reposted the pictures on twitter. I hope you find him. X

RosesAndHellebores · 23/09/2023 22:37

Wishing you well op and hoping he is OK, wherever he is.

Might he have needed to disappear? Had he been involved in anything a bit dodgy? Not meant badly but as another avenue to follow.

Thank you, I will try the radio station. I don't think September 11th would have any significance for him and he wouldn't remember 9/11. He doesn't drive although I can't rule out he might be hitch hiking.
I don't think there is any connection with that to be honest. It was over 20 years ago and our names have changed since. We also moved to a new area so I think any connection is unlikely.

How definite is the Luton sighting? If it was a likely sighting, would he have traveled by train? You could try posters up on the trains, stations along the way, speak to station staff - perhaps Luton train station staff could check their cctv.
I think a key thing here is to get the police to class him as a vulnerable missing person rather than a person missing of his own free will and your son's doctor may be your best chance at that.

GrandTheftWalrus · 23/09/2023 22:39

I hope he's found soon OP. Can't even begin to imagine what you're going through 💐

busine · 23/09/2023 22:39

have you tried tik tok? Missing people on there can get thousands of views as well as build a community of people who will help. A young person should be able to help you set this up and run it

CurlyhairedAssassin · 23/09/2023 22:39

Did he have access to a PC that you've been able to check the history of?

Aliceinunderland · 23/09/2023 22:41

I will definitely contact his GP to see if he can help. I know my son wasn't currently accessing mental health services but his history should be enough. Rather oddly, the police put an appeal on their site yesterday for him saying they are concerned for his welfare. Which is rather at odds with the fact that I haven't heard from them since Tuesday.

The signs of activity are positive OP, sighting in Luton and contact with EA. Praying for you that he gets in touch soon Flowers

Tiktok! He loves tiktok. I didn't think of that. Thank you

I don't want to bang on about it. But he left on Sept 11th. He took his bank card and possibly has checked it (perhaps seeing if a sum of money has been paid into it). He is vulnerable mentally. It pricks up my "Prevent" duty ears.

Lwrenagain · 23/09/2023 22:44

This is heartbreaking, I'm hoping with everything he's back home safe and sound soon.
Much love to you.

I'd contact the local newspaper Facebook page and also groups for the areas he was seen last.

I'd also ring the ymca type places and the homeless charities in areas he's been seen.

Also, does he have money in his account to spend for food etc?
I'd ring the supermarkets and fast food places where he's last been located asking if you sent pictures could they put them up?

Has he left any devices at home you can access to see if he's been talking to anyone etc? I'm not against an invasion of privacy for missing people, I'm sure most people would understand.

Sending support x

determinedtomakethiswork · 23/09/2023 22:45

It's crazy that they won't speak to the bank to see whether he's been using his account. I'm so sorry, you must feel frantic with worry.

Silkiebunny · 23/09/2023 22:45

Its all worth giving people a way of giving info without going via police incase there are people who don't want to deal with police.

You can fly within UK and to Ireland without a passport.

Other thing I wondered and sorry to mention this is could he be involved in drugs in some way and a dealer after him? Not that would give any clues really.

determinedtomakethiswork · 23/09/2023 22:46

Has he been active in any way on social media?
