.....this year? It's one of my favourite shows but I'm not sure if I'm going to watch it.

@localnotail it's absolutely pathetic. To actively seek to twist and manipulate something to suit your own agenda and bring someone down so you can pat yourself on the back and feel like a moral crusader.

I find it quite abhorrent and minimises the real point at hand.
If Russell Brand is an abuser then throw the book at him but let's not taking things out of context and creating shit where there is none.

The jokes are bad taste but that humour was acceptable in the early 2000's hence why it was on air and no one batted an eyelid.

Today's society wouldn't accept that on tv as we have evolved and moved away from that sort of humour.
It doesn't mean that Noel Fielding, Johnathan Ross and Jimmy Carr are all rape apologists and we should start boycotting programs

Weird how Noel supposedly likes underage girls but always had a relationships with women around his own age. And married for over 10 years to someone only a couple of years younger than him.

I thought she's 8 years younger? He's 50, she's 42.

As a 33yo man, he said of a 16yo girl 'she's incredible. There's a chemistry between us and we liked each other but she's so much younger.'

Like, why are you a grown ass adult man hanging around with schoolkids to the point of developing 'chemistry?' If your teenage daughters were hanging out with 33yo men, you'd probably have something to say about said men.

Yeah, I mean that doesn't make it any less creepy for men in their 30s to strike up relationships/friendships with girls who haven't even left school.

Well in that case he should definitely be cancelled.

localnotail · 20/09/2023 23:35

I do agree that dating a 16 year old is weird and creepy, but (and now I'm going to say something really horrible) Geldof girls were not exactly your ordinary children... it does raise a lot of questions but as I said, he was probably more interested in her being famous than her being 16.

I do believe whatever is said about RB. But if NF was friendly with him it doesn't mean they shared the exact same outlook or abused females together, they were not Siamese twins, ffs.

Also, I wholeheartedly support age of consent being raised to 18. 16 is WAY too young to be treated like an adult woman.

@CherryMaDeara - no idea how old she is, they look similar age to me. 8 years is ok though if they met when she was in her 30s?

I doubt she was in school in the normal sense, she had a job.

It's not weird for adults who meet in an adult environment, like a club, to hang out together, without age really coming into it. I don't ask people I meet at work, or at a bar, their age before I talk to them and develop a friendship. If it comes up it's mainly by chance.

AInightingale · 20/09/2023 17:26

Yes I know what you mean. Besides the Brand link, I absolutely hated the Matt Lucas/Noel Fielding combo, didn't find them remotely funny, and they had zero interest in baking, obviously. I'd like to see perhaps someone like Alan Carr present it with Alison Hammond, there is a natural warmth about him that you don't get in a lot of other male comedians, many of whom are sociopaths if you ask me.

God no! Maybe we could step away from unfunny comedians and go with people interested in baking.

You do know who her parents are, right? It's quite an odd statement to say about a teenage girl who's mum left their rockstar dad for another rockstar who committed suicide, only for the mum to also die from suicide.
Pixie was obviously a troubled teen who has had a difficult start in life. Bob Geldof did a brilliant job being raising his kids and supporting them through what they went through.

Says every sleazy man caught with a teenage girl ever. "I honestly thought she was 25, your honour."

Oh stop. This is just a way of enabling the perverts and paedophiles. This is one step away from ‘why was she wearing that then?’ It isn’t the child’s fault or the parents unless the parents pimped their kids out. The only fault lies with the gross men praying of younger girls.

No, but that’s not what you said. You said you’d be questioning the parenting, blaming the parents. When I was 16 I took drugs and drank. I also hung out with a bunch of much older men who were famous - thankfully I didn’t do anything with them. But my parents knew nothing. They were fantastic parents and I lied through my back teeth and was very devious so I could hang out with these men and do what they did. It was the fault of those men, not my parents who were and still are amazing and who still have no idea how extreme things are. Nor did any of my friends parents who were with me. “Perfect” parents always blame other parents in these situations but it’s a lot more complex than that.

Oh, it has to outright illegal for you to consider it dodgy as fuck? I mean, it's not illegal to be mates with a 15yo either but most 33yo aren't.
