Both current and old address say con hold bit with a huge swing to labour. I don’t see it being likely. Far more likely to swing towards Lib Dem in rural sw. Particularly given that half of the new constituency swung hugely to the Lib Dems in a by-election not long ago. I do not see Labour getting 36%ish of the vote.

Similar in the constituency I live in.

IClaudine · 06/10/2023 22:59

Deleted, thankfully.

newnamethanks · 06/10/2023 23:03

If Rees Mogg loses his seat I will go to church and thank his God for serving up his just desserts at last. Might even light a candle. 🙏

Zonder · 07/10/2023 00:16

How have I never seen that electoral calculus site before?

Our bloody Tory MP is set to keep her seat. She doesn't even know where we are.

BIossomtoes · 07/10/2023 06:26

It’s gone pop.

Jason118 · 07/10/2023 07:50

Mine could be tasty!

Watching Mordaunt's conference performance reminds me of the last time Michael Portillo graced the conference stage. Bombastic, strutting, preening and absolutely thrilled with himself, he believed he was at the top of his game. Many of us looked on with horrified disbelief at this blatant display of hubris. Older MNers will remember his own horrified disbelief at the ensuing general election where he lost his seat to Stephen Twigg. Were you still up for Portillo? Cheers were heard across the country. Penny M should get a video and learn from it but, hopefully, it's too late for learning.

Penny thinks the performance shows that she is a leader, it is part of her campaign to fill the leadership void at the top of the Tory party.

newnamethanks · 07/10/2023 08:24

She does think that and iirc Portillo was thinking along similar lines at the time, thus his utter bewilderment when realising that nobody else shared his feeling. Still feel the schadenfreude and hope to re-live it.

IClaudine · 07/10/2023 09:07

I will always remember the Portillo moment!

Penny definitely wants to be leader.

IClaudine · 07/10/2023 09:13

Not looking good for our Pen 🤣🤣🤣

ETA: sorry, someone already posted this, I missed it somehow. Still as funny the second time around though?

dontcallmelen · 07/10/2023 09:14

Sorry realise my post upthread was very simplistic, but I’m just so tired of this awful awful government I feel almost at breaking point silly I know but the thought of anyone casting a vote for the likes Braverman/Patel/Rees Mogg/Anderson sickens me.
Yy Mourdant definitely auditioning for the next Tory leader.

pointythings · 07/10/2023 09:15

I was up for Portillo. Went to bed afterwards because I figured it couldn't get any better.

It is not silly at all. I feel the same. How can people vote for such vile characters?

I was up all night, working at the Cambridge count. I heard a massive cheer from one of the committee rooms and popped my head round the door to see what I’d missed. A chorus of about 30 voices gleefully told me “Portillo’s gone!”. I hope to see the Rees Mogg moment next time.

I hope she pointed out the ongoing mental health and attendance crisis in that generation of children too.

The government entirely ignored children. And parents. I'm still cross we were expected to "homeschool", as if teaching is easy. And the complete lack of advice about what to do if you also worked.

Gosh, I'm getting flashbacks. I found the bit where they were at home so stressful.

And far from protecting the elderly by doing so many detiorated badly due to isolation and lack of activity.

Piggywaspushed · 07/10/2023 11:22

I would say, as a teacher, I am not a fan of Ann Longfield.

Piggywaspushed · 07/10/2023 14:42

Just had Lib Dems and Tories round. DH told Lib Dems to go away because it was added time in the football! So I still haven't managed to give them piece of my mind .

Alltheyearround · 07/10/2023 17:29

Our Tory MP has a 4% chance of retaining his seat apparently.
That's made my day, he's a useless tosser who is riding alongside Braverman's 'illegal immigrants' dross.

dontcallmelen · 07/10/2023 17:43

We & two other wards are being moved into a new constituency which has been predominantly Tory for many years the local Labour Party think it’s winnable but I’m not so sure.
my present & previous Labour MP were both excellent I shall be very very sad if I end with a Tory MP

Zonder · 07/10/2023 19:15

Imagine repeating the Portillo moment with Leadsom and Mordaunt. And Mogg too. That would be the stuff of dreams!

I too remember the Portillo moment with great fondness.

pointythings · 07/10/2023 20:54

@Zonder unless the polls tighten to the point where it feels like the Tories are going to win, I'm staying up on election night.

Zonder · 07/10/2023 22:27

Me too @pointythings we need to have a watch party on here!
