Got new teeth....need honest opinions please

Hi there,

My first post on MN but really hoping to get some opinions.

Due to teeth loss (long story) I have paid privately to get a dental bridge - incisors and 2 front teeth. I had the bridge fitted on Monday. The intention is that this lasts 1-2 years while I have treatment for bone loss before implants are done.

I had very gappy and uneven top front teeth prior to this so I knew I'd take a while to adjust but I'm so disappointed with the look I've achieved.

I just feel the teeth look too big and because of how straight they are, look false. My family and friends keep reassuring me that they look good but if I'm honest, I don't know if I believe them!

I feel I need opinions from people who dont know me. Please be kind with comments but of course honest too. I have a follow up meeting on Monday and it will help me decide what to do.

Thank you

They look lovely and I am jealous! Hoping to get mine done eventually. I hope they bring you happiness 😊

AgnesX · 15/09/2023 13:44

They probably look bigger to you as theres no longer a gap. To me they look fine.

EmmasRegurgitatedShrimps · 15/09/2023 13:45

They look perfect to me.

My partner has recently had veneers over her front teeth ,very similar look to you have.

Like you she was worried that they were too big. (I thought they were too but obviously didn't say anything).

It was just because they looked different than her real teeth. Within a couple of days I stopped noticing them. It took her a little longer because obviously she sees her own face a lot less than I do, but now she's very happy with them.

It's not that they're big, its that they're different and so your brain is giving them more prominence. Give it some time for your brain to catch up and you'll probably be very happy with them

Missingmyusername · 15/09/2023 13:46

They look perhaps slightly too wide but I’m picking…. you said before your teeth were gappy, to close the gap presumably each tooth would be wider.

It’s obvious they’re (I would think) veneers/ that you’ve had work done/ whitening- that people pay thousands for. The whiteness wouldn’t bother me, that’ll fade especially if you drink coffee or red wine or simply the passage of time.

What were you hoping for OP? Can you find some teeth you like and say I want them like this? Or see if there’s any way to make them thinner, would that mean more teeth though? I think you will find that you get used to them personally. I see plenty of teeth like yours on the school run! ££££££ expensive dentistry!

ChewbaccasMrs · 15/09/2023 13:46

They look really lovely, I think your dentist has done a brilliant job

PurpleChrayne · 15/09/2023 13:47

They look great!

mcmooberry · 15/09/2023 13:48

I agree with you, too big and too white and I would feel as you do. I may be influenced by the fact by my teeth are FAR from perfect and this degree of transformation for me would be too much.

felisha54 · 15/09/2023 13:50

They look so much better than before and have really helped your facial structure. I think you'd know they were fake due to whiteness and size (but your teeth were on the larger side before). But I know many people who've had them done and they always look fake. Is there actually anything you can do though to reduce size and make them less white?

Callywals · 15/09/2023 13:50

I think they look great and I would never have known they are false.

CitizenofMoronia · 15/09/2023 13:51

looking at your second pic they look the same size as your natural teeth, the colour wont stay that bright and will dull as you eat and drink, especially if you drink tea or coffee, I think hes done a good job, they look great.

Oblomov23 · 15/09/2023 13:52

I think they look a bit too big, but wonder what else could've been done now I've seen the original, or what else can be done now.

kitsuneghost · 15/09/2023 13:52

Size are fine but I would (from experience) perhaps ask about colouration, see if they can somehow darken them a shade just to make them look a little more natural.

duringthewarrodney · 15/09/2023 13:54

Truthfully? I think they look amazing - if my own gnarled and crooked gnashers looked half as good as yours, I'd be a happy hedgehog.

They must feel very odd at the moment, but hopefully you'll 'grow into them' and that it won't be too long before you don't even notice them (except to admire them when you catch sight of yourself in a shop window).

CinemaCrazy · 15/09/2023 13:54

It’s because they are new, you’ll sort of grow into them. I remember when my DM for gets some I thought OMG then after a couple of weeks I couldn’t remember what they look liked before. They will slightly discolour which will make them look more natural. Did you get your bottom
teeth done as well?

Johnnylewis · 15/09/2023 13:54

They're not small teeth but that in itself wouldn't make me think they were fake, teeth come in all shapes and sizes.

I would definitely think you'd had them whitened but it's not unusual nowadays to see bright white teeth.

Overall, they're fine and you just need more time to get used to your new smile!

BasinHaircut · 15/09/2023 13:55

They look fab, and without meaning to sound harsh, a big improvement on what you started with.

I had a rhinoplasty 2.5 years ago and what I will say is that the change to what you see in the mirror takes time to adjust to, but soon you will look back on the before photo and think ‘I can’t believe that was me’

SweetBirdsong · 15/09/2023 13:56

@Shelleywelley77

Wasn't sure what to say after your first picture as I didn't know what you looked like before @Shelleywelley77 BUT after seeing the second picture of what your teeth were like before, I think what they look like now is absolutely fine, and they don't look hugely different. Grin

They just look like they've been smartened up and whitened is a little bit and the gap fixed. They're not too big for your mouth at all, and they don't look 'obviously fake.' I think those comments are pretty rude! You look gorgeous. You are gorgeous. Please don't worry about other people think. Nobody's going to think anything when they see you smile except you've got a gorgeous smile. 😁

NotAllWhoWanderAreLost · 15/09/2023 13:56

I think they look great, and they are in proportion to your face.
Will just take a bit of getting used to.

Norachance · 15/09/2023 13:56

Exactly the same happened to me. I had a gap which I didn't mind. The dentist didn't even mention it but when my bridge was made the front teeth are too wide and my gap has gone. I was hugely disappointed at the time but it was a couple of days before Christmas so not much could be done. I kind of got used to it and by the time the dentist opened again I just decided not to bother as everyone said how good they looked. You will get used to it! They look good to me!

Andylippy1 · 15/09/2023 13:57

Nice and white

SweetBirdsong · 15/09/2023 13:58

@honeyandfizz (at 13.36) your teeth look great!

PinkRoses1245 · 15/09/2023 13:58

Being honest, they look fake but they are, so I'm not sure what else you'd expect. They look fine though, I wouldn't say they're too big. Sure it'll take getting used.

cloudydays2 · 15/09/2023 13:58

You love lovely ! They suit your face for sure, enjoy your new smile x

pinksheetss · 15/09/2023 13:58

I agree they look fine!
I also recently got composite bonding on 6 of my front teeth and panicked a bit as it was such a big change and was worried they looked huge and fake etc but I think it's very similar to you and it's more a case of us getting used to it

You look at yourself so often in the mirror it will seem more of a change to you!
