Do Brits not use face cloths?

I'm from North America and I grew up washing my face with a face wash and a wash cloth.

Wet face, suds up the cloth and give it a gentle scrub until all my makeup is off and rinse with wet cloth. Then I use a toner on a cotton pad to remove any leftover traces, but there's usually not any unless I've missed a spot around my hairline.

I've noticed through travelling to hotels here in the U.K. and much of Europe that there are no face cloths (flannels?) in the rooms to wash my face with so I have to wet the bottom corner of the towel and use as a face cloth.

How does everyone wash their face here? Do you mainly use makeup wipes? I've tried a few but they never seem to work very well

  • I'm always left with lots of makeup on my toner soaked cotton pad. It also seems a lot of waste that ends up in the landfill.

How does everyone ensure their face is clean from makeup & sunscreen without a gentle scrub and water? Was I using the wipes wrong?

We do use them.

WaxhamSeals · 30/08/2023 19:12

I’ve never seen face cloths supplied in hotels.
I just wash my face with water, using my hands. I don’t wear make up

countdowntonap · 30/08/2023 19:13

I use one. Pack them to travel as they covered in make-up and I feel bad.

DragonflyLady · 30/08/2023 19:13

Yes, but you take your own flannels with you.

YourNameGoesHere · 30/08/2023 19:14

Of course we use them but generally people tend to take their own with them to hotels rather than use hotel ones. Nip into any supermarket and ask for a flannel or face cloth and they will point you in the right direction.

Everyone I know uses one, I would take my own face cloths to a hotel, though.

Fluffycloudsblusky · 30/08/2023 19:14

We do but for some reason most Uk hotels don’t supply them. High end hotels yes more likely
you often get them in Europe tho

Lilyhatesjaz · 30/08/2023 19:14

I always use one. But I would never expect a hotel to supply one, I always take my own.

Anxioys · 30/08/2023 19:14

I love flannels and have many.

SirVixofVixHall · 30/08/2023 19:15

Yes we do . I use a flannel every night to clean my face.

Lou670 · 30/08/2023 19:15

Yes I do. I call them flannels.

tenbob · 30/08/2023 19:16

I use a Muslin cloth which I buy in multipacks and wash a few times before they go too soft to be any good for exfoliating

I always take my own cloths with me, wouldn’t think to use a hotel one

WaitingForSunnyDays · 30/08/2023 19:16

I use one,and also take one on holiday. Even if it's a hotel that supplies one I don't like making theirs dirty with make up!

PinkBuffalo · 30/08/2023 19:16

I do no wear makeup but always wash my face with a flannel in the morning before my shower
Have always take my own if I go away though

KateyCuckoo · 30/08/2023 19:16

Yes lots of flannels used here but we take our own. Feels more like a Toothbrush in terms of personal use than a bath towel.

CantThinkOfANameAtAll · 30/08/2023 19:16

I wouldn't assume hotels would provide face cloths even if they provided towels. I feel flannels are a more intimate and personal washing item. I use them at home but I don't wear make up. Hate wipes too but I know many women prefer them.

Maireas · 30/08/2023 19:17

I've seen them provided in hotels in the UK.

AuntieMarys · 30/08/2023 19:17

I use one. You get flannels in certain hotels...not Premier Inn!

guiltyfeethavegotnorythym · 30/08/2023 19:17

We do use them ( well some ) but they are so personal an item no would would ever dream of using a hotel supplied one or one belonging to someone else . A bit like knickers .

MagicClawHasNoChildren · 30/08/2023 19:17

I don't use them, personally. I use little flannel two-sided cotton rounds to take my makeup off (double cleanse with cream cleanser and micellar water, and then an exfoliator a couple of times a week). I used to use flannels when I was using Ultrabland, but the way I do things now works, too. In the mornings, I use my fingers and a soft, oily balm cleanser.

lavenderlou · 30/08/2023 19:17

I've always used them (flannels) and given them to my kids but my kids tell me none of their friends have heard of them so I wondered if they were becoming more uncommon. Never seen one in a hotel though.

RaininSummer · 30/08/2023 19:18

I use them but they as above, they are not supplied in hotels.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 30/08/2023 19:18

I use flannels and hot cloth cleanser or balm.

I didn't use one until I was an adult though.

cheezncrackers · 30/08/2023 19:19

No, I don't. American DH can't function without them though Grin

coxesorangepippin · 30/08/2023 19:19

Hate the word flannel

Not sure why
