Do Brits not use face cloths?

I'm from North America and I grew up washing my face with a face wash and a wash cloth.

Wet face, suds up the cloth and give it a gentle scrub until all my makeup is off and rinse with wet cloth. Then I use a toner on a cotton pad to remove any leftover traces, but there's usually not any unless I've missed a spot around my hairline.

I've noticed through travelling to hotels here in the U.K. and much of Europe that there are no face cloths (flannels?) in the rooms to wash my face with so I have to wet the bottom corner of the towel and use as a face cloth.

How does everyone wash their face here? Do you mainly use makeup wipes? I've tried a few but they never seem to work very well

  • I'm always left with lots of makeup on my toner soaked cotton pad. It also seems a lot of waste that ends up in the landfill.

How does everyone ensure their face is clean from makeup & sunscreen without a gentle scrub and water? Was I using the wipes wrong?

I would not use a flannel in a hotel to wash my face. The last person could have wiped their bum with it

Sorry if I sound like an old lady but I feel that a flannel sloughs off the dead skin on my face before I use moisturisers etc

Not British and I've never used one, and never heard of anyone from my country using one either. They conjure up images of old people washing themselves with a flannel instead of showering 😩I used to know an older guy who would use one to wash himself everywhere, incl down there! 😱They must be pretty unhygienic if people wipe off make-up etc on them every day, or do you wash it after each use, which must be a faff...

I shower and wash my face with baby lotion in the shower, or sometimes just water. But then I don't cover my face with make-up. If I wear mascara it washes off in the shower just fine and if not, I use a wet wipe to remove the rest.

Not really a faff

Eye makeup I remove the worst of with remover and reusable cotton pads
Then cleansing balm and a well wring out flannel in hot water
Cotton pads and flannel in the wash (I use a new one in the morning to cleanse so it's used twice before washing)
7 flannels and 14 cotton pads take up v little room to wash and I buy flannels in packs of 14 usually

Yea coz we are ALL the same, like Borg..

We do have facecloths/flannels but, you know, we pack and take our own if going away?!!

A cruise ship I went on did provide themm and launder them every day with towels. And took my own better quality one away with theirs! They did provide a replacement when I raised the matter, and frequent travellers said the trick was to use coloured ones.

I use my hands. No need for a flannel

JamSandle · 01/09/2023 13:24

I use a muslin cloth. A flannel feels too rough.

I’d never expect a hotel to provide face cloths. I do use them, along with muslin cloths and face halos.

These are facecloths right? They're in the not particularly fancy hotel we're staying in tonight. I feel like most hotels I've stayed in have had them.
