I could actually cry with flight issue

Our flight was cancelled yesterday morning, the only way we could get to our destinations was to book a flight with a 1 hour stopover in Munich then onto Alicante. Well I've just checked the flight to Munich and it is now delayed by almost 3 hours 😩😩
wtf happens regarding our other flight ??

I'm so stressed out, just trying to get us and very upset kids on our holiday, they were heartbroken yesterday

Right, I have two children, sorry I've made s couple of typos in my replying while trying to get away. We're now at the airport, again with two children.

I will update the kind posters when there is news. Thanks again for the helpful posts.

Your example is very much the exception, not the rule. Scheduled flights need to run to schedule, people may have connections at both ends so delaying the next flight has a knock on effect, the plane misses it's slot, the airline is liable to pay EU compensation (if applicable) and expenses, crew can go out of hours so can't fly etc etc

If there are a huge number of connecting passengers AND their bags have already been on loaded it may be quicker to let the passengers board than offload the baggage but this would be so rare.

OP don't forget to notify your accommodation if you are going to be a late arrival.

I’ve also had a connecting flight which they held for a few people including DH and myself. That was in Chicago O’Hare in bad weather. The cabin crew told us which gate we needed to go to as we got off the incoming plane and as we approached that gate (running as fast as we could) the ground crew told us they had been expecting us. The plane pushed back from the gate as soon as we were seated. Whilst I appreciate it isn’t the norm, it does happen on occasion.

Btw if I'm making this up (not sure why anyone would) you can check the current threads about the airport issues. As for the last 2 days I've been posting on there

I’ve had a read through and I’m a little confused. I do hope you get on your holiday but I’d also say if a child can sit on your lap they aren’t ‘desperate’ for a holiday. Also a reminder that not everyone is travelling for a holiday- my partners flight on Sunday was cancelled after a work trip in Germany leading to him and his disabled work friend travelling by train to Amsterdam to fly back for his friend to be back in time for his mums funeral plan and funeral which they are incredibly grateful for. This really is incredibly unusual.

Andante57 · 30/08/2023 08:06

I’m sorry you’re having these problems op, it sounds unbelievably stressful.

Ignore all the absolutely batshit comments focussing on how many children you have! It will be fine. Prepare to buy snacks and maybe a couple of small toys in duty free to keep kids happy, find spaces in the airports to use as a family base so you or DP can take turns going to toilets/shops etc - and enjoy Alicante when you get there! Sure it will be within 24 hours :)

Honestly I wouldn't bother and I'd just go home. The thought of being trapped as part of this shit show just isn't worth it.

Don't listen to this ridiculous advice! So typical of so many people today to give up at the first setback.
When you get there you will soon forget the travel chaos

I think OP got a bit carried away with the how upset the DC were as one appears to be a babe in arms.

itwasntmetho · 30/08/2023 08:09

I’d just drive there you can be there from Calsis in 17 hours and no cancellations can stop you once you’re through le shuttle.

yes. so the OP may have fudged some details- i and others do it all the time on MN to avoid outing so it is not that suspicious... especially if posting something that may indeed be outing (like an airport and holiday itinerary).

huggiess · 30/08/2023 08:10

I was trying not to be so outing aswell but fucked that up havent I 😆 oh well hi if anyone recognises the situation

Agree. Is Chat the new AIBU bear pit?

@huggiess hope you get sorted and enjoy a lovely holiday at the end ☀️ 🏖️

You know there are problems yet you are voluntarily while pregnant taking young children into the teeth of it? Sorry not going to ”you go girl” I think you are being irresponsible and believe me so will others in your life even if they don’t say so.

Are you like this in real life? 😂

You need to learn better coping skills my dear and don’t have children until you get a bit more life experience behind you. 🤦🏻‍♀️

ChateauMargaux · 30/08/2023 08:14

Twice in the last year I was booked on a flight that was cancelled and once I missed a connection, each time, the airline, luftansa, KLM and SwissAir.. found a solution for me.. twice I paniced and booked what I could see as the last available flight but they juggle partner airlines and their own flights and somehow make things work. The 'extra' flights were cancelled / refunded. I still find it difficult to hold my nerve. With EasyJet... I just rebooked and figured I would take whatever refund came my way.

My parents, DH's parents and our family all live in different countries.. plus nearly adult children, university and sports in different countries mean we have complex travel... I have noticed many more travel challenges since COVID than before.

Good luck with your journey.. and have a wonderful time when you get there!

Don't worry about it.

There's always some MNer who would rather be congratulating themselves for a detective gotcha moment for noticing discrepancies when someone's trying not to be outing rather than just give helpful advice and feel good about that!

I'm glad you're at the airport. Hope you get refunds for your cancelled fights soon. It's a spin when you are delayed for cross over flights but it's the airlines responsibility when your straight through so agree with those saying just make the best of it.

🤞 when you've finished your holiday in Alicante all this is over and the flight home is less eventful!

Just been told by a lady at the Swiss port help desk that they do hold flights if there is alot of people on the plane due to go on the connecting one. So it just depends

I have just got back from a multi city multi country holiday with lufthansa for part of that journey. My luggage didn't make it with us and we just bought some.more clothes!! Lufthansa email.you for every little thing. Make sure you have the app.
Mindset is everything, ensure you have chargers for phones and devices, basic medicine, change of clothing for all and money. Consider it an adventure and I say that as a regular traveller with 2 teens.
Had most types of travelling mishaps. You will get to your destination, you will have a great time!! And for those being negative - I would hate to see you in a real emergency!!

OvaHere · 30/08/2023 08:16

Sorry you are having a shit time. I hope you make it to Alicante soon. Munich is gorgeous and a lovely place if you unexpectedly have to spend time there.

If you do there is a booth on the lower airport level where the train platform is where you can get travel passes. They have (or used to) have passes that were about 10 euros and lasted a month for all travel.

Please note though Munich airport is quite a long way out of the city. The train takes around an hour to get there from the airport and this time of year is often packed.

Exactly, the main thing coming out of the OP was how upset the DC were.
