I could actually cry with flight issue

Our flight was cancelled yesterday morning, the only way we could get to our destinations was to book a flight with a 1 hour stopover in Munich then onto Alicante. Well I've just checked the flight to Munich and it is now delayed by almost 3 hours 😩😩
wtf happens regarding our other flight ??

I'm so stressed out, just trying to get us and very upset kids on our holiday, they were heartbroken yesterday

In no way having a go, but I would never book with a connecting flight that had a 50min cross over. Even 3hrs I would be twitchy.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 30/08/2023 06:21

Google tells me that your next direct flight with Lufthansa from Munich to Alicante is Friday afternoon.

We were just desperate. It was either that or something stupid like 15 hours. I know we're cutting it fine, I just want to get us on our holiday that we've saved hard for.
Had really bad luck like so many others but I've got to just go with it now.
If that means a night in Munich then that's what it's got be be

A rebooked route may not be direct. Lufthansa may also rebook you on star alliance partner Airlines.
As for whether a short connection is wise - the airline sell the ticket so they clearly think its ok

Creepyrosemary · 30/08/2023 06:27

I once missed a connecting flight due to previous plane being delayed and they put us up in a nice hotel for the night (plus dinner) and arranged a flight the next day. You already paid for the flights, call the airline and let them handle how to get you there. You shouldn't be buying extra flights. They made the problem, they can solve it.

MurderOnTheChatExpress · 30/08/2023 06:28

There is a daily Lufthansa flight to Alicante every day this week that I can see.

SlippySarah · 30/08/2023 06:29

If you know you're going to be spending some time in Munich you can start planning some fun activities. Try and get into the mindset that it's all part of the adventure and show your children how to be resilient when changes happen.

MurderOnTheChatExpress · 30/08/2023 06:30

In fact seems there are multiple flights tmrw. If you actually posted approx. times or looked in their website OP you would be far less panicked.

We missed our connecting flight with Lufthansa last week after our London flight to Frankfurt was delayed. They rebooked us on the next flight that had seat availability which was not the next flight but the one after with a partner airline. We had to wait at the airport for 8.5 hours and they gave us refreshment vouchers for €15 per passenger. We went to the service centre in Frankfurt as soon as we arrived and they were efficient. Did you check in online? We saw our new flight on the Lufthansa app before we'd even seen an agent at the service centre but still had to see the agent to get the boarding passes and refreshment vouchers.

Corfuqueen · 30/08/2023 06:35

@Selfesteem23

They won’t hold the flight. They’ll put you on the next available one.

^^ what I don't understand is how airlines suddenly magic up spare seats on the next available flight given that they tend to overbook. How does this happen in practice?

Igneococcus · 30/08/2023 06:38

There are worse things than two nights in Munich (I lived there for 5 years) but I assume that they will try to get you onto any other flight with one of their partners, which might involve a non-direct route via Frankfurt or possibly Amsterdam.
I was affected by flight cancellations returning to the UK from France via Amsterdam in early July (because of a massive storm in Amsterdam in which two people died) and KLM booked me an alternative with Lufthansa via Frankfurt. It's good flying with an airline that has many partners.

BeccaBean · 30/08/2023 06:40

Agree with pp that with a long wait you should be able to leave the airport. We chose not to this time but last year EasyJet cancelled our flight home from Crete at short notice and the only way for us to get home for work/school was to rebook with Lufthansa with a 9 hour scheduled stop over in Frankfurt . We went into Central Frankfurt for a few hours and made it an extra part of our holiday.

I've often wondered about that as well but I assume it's because some passengers on the alternative flight have missed these flights as well.

DyslexicPoster · 30/08/2023 06:44

I hope it all works out OP

Sorry - I was looking at direct flights from Munich to Alicante with Lufthansa but there are indeed plenty before Friday if you’re happy for another change of flights in Frankfurt.

huggiess · 30/08/2023 06:56

Thanks you everyone, I'm feeling a little more positive and have said it's part of the adventure !
I am pregnant with a baby in tow aswell so a little stressed !

I would be looking at flights etc myself but atm trying to get everything sorted for going to the airport in 30 mins 😬

Just present it as a big adventure - "We might even get TWO holidays - Germany and Spain"! And Munich is indeed lovely.

ChaToilLeam · 30/08/2023 07:01

The Lufthansa service desk will sort you out. They’re normally pretty good. And if you are held up in Munich for a night, the rain as now stopped and the weather is improving! You could catch the S1 or S8 into the city centre from the airport. Lots to see and do, there is a zoo at Hellabrunn, lots of beer gardens, the Augustinerkeller is one with a particularly good play area for kids.

JassyRadlett · 30/08/2023 07:12

We flew through Munich to London (from Singapore) on Tuesday and were dreading the impact of the disruption but Lufthansa were super well organised and clearly supporting the passengers who had been stuck on the Monday and needed rerouting. Hope it all goes well!

Roselilly36 · 30/08/2023 07:13

I can’t understand why you would try, tbh OP? With the outage, this will cause a knock on effect for quite a few days. Your original flights were cancelled, due to this, I expect. No way would I rely on the airline to accommodate in these circumstances, there will be too many passengers stranded at the airport, trying customer service will be a joke. I would stay at home and rebook the trip at a later time.

LlynTegid · 30/08/2023 07:14

Hope all works out in the end OP. Much more confidence it will given it is Lufthansa.

TheaBrandt · 30/08/2023 07:18

Sometimes you have to accept it isn’t going to happen. Have you ever had a flight go wrong? I have last two times I flew. Abandoned in the night at wrong airport and getting stuck coming home - /panic booking hotels and randomly booking fresh flights. It’s exhausting stressful expensive and very unpleasant. Fortunately I was traveling on my own no way would I risk taking children into that shit show.

TheaBrandt · 30/08/2023 07:19

Just read you’re pregnant. Sorry I think you are actually being irresponsible.
