I could actually cry with flight issue

Our flight was cancelled yesterday morning, the only way we could get to our destinations was to book a flight with a 1 hour stopover in Munich then onto Alicante. Well I've just checked the flight to Munich and it is now delayed by almost 3 hours 😩😩
wtf happens regarding our other flight ??

I'm so stressed out, just trying to get us and very upset kids on our holiday, they were heartbroken yesterday

You know there are problems yet you are voluntarily while pregnant taking young children into the teeth of it? Sorry not going to ”you go girl” I think you are being irresponsible and believe me so will others in your life even if they don’t say so.

"Into the teeth of it"?

It's an airport not a hurricane.

The majority have been lovely and helpful. It's a couple that have got an issue with me trying to still go on a much needed holiday. Bizarre !

It's crazy! Hopefully you'll make the most of your holiday - whether it includes bonus time in Munich (I love Germany, you'll have a wonderful time) or not

TheaBrandt · 30/08/2023 07:46

If you’d experienced what I have you world feel the same.

It's an airport lounge, not a warzone.

It's insane to suggest that people should stop doing perfectly ordinary things like going on holiday because you once saw a different woman on a different plane have a bad time.

It will probably all work out OP. To be honest it might be a good thing that your flight is delayed as an hour is not long enough to change planes so at least now you can blame that on the delay!

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 30/08/2023 07:47

If you want to give advice based on your experience @TheaBrandt that's one thing. Berating the OP in the way you have been doing is quite another.

Funny people saying of course they wouldn’t hold the flight - we took two flights with Japan airlines earlier this year where the first flight was delayed and they did indeed hold the second flight because of the huge number of people on the first plane due to take the second. So I don’t think it’s a stupid question at all! It does absolutely happen!

I hope you arrive safe and have a good holiday OP!

I started out with an older child and a baby. I said "they were heartbroken" which is true of the older one. Obviously baby has no idea I haven't stayed older dc's sex, hence saying they

The original airline which cancelled your flight needs to provide you with an alternative, you don't pay for the replacement flight so not sure why the mention of money came into it up thread? If the Munich route is no longer feasible they need to re route you again. You just need to call their customer service. Good luck.

huggiess · 30/08/2023 07:51

I haven't stated* that should say

It may be new to you but it’s common sense they won’t hold a flight full of people who made it on time for a few random passengers.
They will just rebook your on the next flight that’s available with space as it’s their job to get you all the way there as they delayed the first flight.

Edited

We once flew to Hong Kong and were held up in Bangkok airport and emirates held the connecting flight back for 2 hours.

However - the problem was a new passport system installed in Bangkok airport which was causing massive delays for everyone so it could have been that there were lots of passengers who didn’t make the connection (possibly even the staff!!) and therefore they held it back.

Somaliwildass · 30/08/2023 07:52

I can't believe this shit is happening again after we've already had a flight cancelled

It's a widespread issue affecting flights, not a one off delay. Of course there is a knock on effect.

Igneococcus · 30/08/2023 07:52

There are currently no problems at Munich airport, the only cancelled flight is one to London. It's a UK problem, not a Europe-wide one. She is not flying "into the teeth of it".
Lufthansa will know OP isn't making the connection, someone at Lufthansa will sort it out.

Try not to worry I'm sure they will get you in the flight going but worst case it's a night or so in Munich which is a lovely place
Make sure to let your hotel know in Alicante that you're delayed if it's going to be a day or so just incase. If I book directly myself I always email

prescribingmum · 30/08/2023 07:53

Honestly OP, ignore the negativity on this thread. Your question about holding flights was not an unreasonable one - airlines have been known to hold flights if a significant number of passengers are connecting from the same flight and has been delayed. This ofc depends on airport availability and traffic control at both ends.

Nothing stupid about wanting to travel and booking an alternative either. The second delay is bad luck but airlines are usually very good at sorting these things out and offering accommodation/food where needed.

Never fails to surprise me how crazy some posters are with things like this.

Hope you have a great trip

Lufthansa are super optimistic about what connections can be achieved but to their credit they are superb at dealing with the fallout.

We had a Home Alone-style comedy dash through Frankfurt airport after a 1 hour connection became a 35-minute connection with the bonus of a remote gate/bus transfer to the terminal and passport control thrown in. Even before the second flight left, Lufthansa's systems had clocked that we probably wouldn't make it and sent us numerous rebooking options on email and suggested staff would also help us.

We miraculously (just) made it but our luggage didn't. Got it back two days later.

Somehow, somehow my kids coped and even thought it was hilarious.

huggiess · 30/08/2023 07:54

So I did, it should've said 3. Would you like a family picture as proof ?
I don't know why there are such bitchy comments to be honest

Your example is very much the exception, not the rule. Scheduled flights need to run to schedule, people may have connections at both ends so delaying the next flight has a knock on effect, the plane misses it's slot, the airline is liable to pay EU compensation (if applicable) and expenses, crew can go out of hours so can't fly etc etc

If there are a huge number of connecting passengers AND their bags have already been on loaded it may be quicker to let the passengers board than offload the baggage but this would be so rare.

OP don't forget to notify your accommodation if you are going to be a late arrival.
