Maybe the name "Flexitol" * has escaped them but they'll know it when they see it?

*other brands of foot cream are widely available

Hawkins009 · 26/08/2023 21:04

Or could it be that the feet are from the butchers for a ritual of some sort ?

blacc · 26/08/2023 21:07

Am I the only one who can't see the word feet?

AInightingale · 26/08/2023 21:08

Might just be a crap speller and meant 'Veet'.

I love abandoned shopping lists and found one that said 'ding meal'. Took me a minute to realise that this was probably a microwaveable ready meal.

Meowandthen · 26/08/2023 21:08

Flakey99 · 26/08/2023 19:54

Sounds good to me.

I'm guessing this person has better things to do with their time than cook boring meals for other people. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Rather odd to think that a good cheese sauce and a decent home-made crumble is boring. Made well, both are delicious.

Hawkins009 · 26/08/2023 21:09

I do love home made crumble, not sure about the mac and cheese.

waltzwithme · 26/08/2023 21:09

@EinyLinky and @Missingmyusername it is a thing from when all this here were fields. MN has always done shopping lists, as above it is where "naice ham" came from which we deduced was posh ham.

It is meant to be a bit of fun to look at what other people shop for, just like when you look at what other people unpack at the till. This is also in chat where it belongs.

What sort of idle git buys ‘crumble mix’?

This has already been addressed by many pp

Someone who has arthritis in their hands
Someone who has a chronic illness

And there are plenty of others

Someone who is a single parent or carer, perhaps working multiple jobs with kids to feed

etc etc

It's at the bottom. Big gap after the rest of the list.

Usually when I leave a gap like that on lists it means something else from somewhere else entirely (like chiropodist appt reminder as someone else said)

Shady23 · 26/08/2023 21:11

See from that list I see an older persons handwriting and think they probably have either
Done their time of cooking and had enough
Have difficulties with their hands that makes stirring and making crumble tricky

Everyone seems to think frozen onions or genius but judges crumble mix?

My dad buys ready meals. He can cook and did for years while running pubs. But he has carpal tunnel in both hands and almost total loss of feeling in his fingers

whereismysleep · 26/08/2023 21:11

EinyLinky · 26/08/2023 19:53

I think I'm more surprised that a shopping list was picked up and purposely taken home and photographed 😂

Are you new round these 'ere parts?

It's a MN tradition.

Thomasina79 · 26/08/2023 21:11

I’m a good cook, so people tell me, and I often buy ready made cheese sauce from sainsbury. Handy for lasagna which can be a faff or fish pie also a faff, but which we love. Sometimes people just don’t have much time to spend cooking and short cuts can be a godsend.

I think the reference for feet is for foot related conditions.

Meowandthen · 26/08/2023 21:12

Qilin · 26/08/2023 20:43

Which is fine if you make it regularly. Otherwise it's buying a bag of flour, a block of butter, a bag of oats, and a bag of sugar. So a mix will be cheaper if only doing a one off.

Also requires a little more confidence - could be someone new to making their own food. Or someone who doesn't feel confident 'baking' something right now for various reasons.

Also making a crumble then requires you to use your fingers to mix and crumble it generally. Arthritis in the fingers would make that really painful - even if only a few minutes for your average person.I'm quite sure there are other medical and/or health conditions which would make it trickier.

So a pretty judgemental comment based on one very short list.

You do realise that butter, flour, oats and sugar can be used for many other things? For many of us they are store cupboard staples.

But they’re not a staple for everyone. There is rarely flour, oats or sugar in our house.

If I bake a cake for guests, I’ll get a Betty Crocker mix.

Theborder · 26/08/2023 21:14

It’s the question mark that blown my mind. I mean feet????

Clefable · 26/08/2023 21:16

I don't have arthritis and I have the time and ability to make it from scratch. I just can't be arsed and would rather not Grin People love to ascribe moral judgements to people just deciding to do things that make their lives easier, it's very weird. I also used pre-diced onion and garlic. And have a robot hoover. And loads of other small convenience stuff to make my life easier!

TiredyMcTired · 26/08/2023 21:16

I want to know what Tom’s you can buy from Waitrose? Would it be posh ones, maybe Tom Hiddleston or Tom Read Wilson? 😆

AMessageToYouRuby · 26/08/2023 21:20

Fuck me, view is apparently so much better from atop the homemade crumble mound! Of all the things to be smug about.

Most supermarkets have blackberries and they are selling because you don't see them in the reduced section. I notice, because I do not like them but am a a fan of reduced fruit.

Today I saw a woman wheeling open recipe books around in the seat bit of trolley and then buying the ingredients. Thought this was genius and far superior to a measly shopping list but I wonder if they were from the shop or she carried them there.

Love it when people come together and admit that they cheat a tiny tiny bit when it comes to household chores . Why shouldn't we ? life is harsh enough not to take some shortcuts .

It is, but we're kind vegetarians so we soak them in unsalted water and scoop out the insects as they swim out then blow them dry and take them back outside once they've rested.

Good idea. We'll do that. I'm vegetarian. I spend at least half an hour a day rescuing bees, wasps, moths and spiders most days at the minute.

Do read properly. I said “for many”, not everyone. 🙄

No sugar but you use those Betty Crocker packets? Nasty tasting things.

What kind of idle git can’t read a post to see that there are many people who would buy it ? 🙂

HazelBite · 26/08/2023 21:32

I misread the Crumble Mix for Columbian mix!
(had to look hard at it cause you can't get that in Waitrose)
