So much judgement over ready mixed crumble.
Some people have arthritic hands and can't do things they once could
It's very easy to judge

Yes, exactly. Judging someone for the food they buy is so insidious. Let’s give each other a break fgs!

What strikes me is that this person is so lazy and/or an utterly crap cook. Ready made cheese sauce is bad enough but I didn't even know ready prepared crumble mix existed, it's only sugar, flour butter and maybe oats, takes seconds to make!
Feet - maybe foot cream/ foot scrub/ deodorant? Or maybe nothing to do with Waitrose, maybe a reminder to book a chiropodist?

You seem nice 👀

Which is fine if you make it regularly. Otherwise it's buying a bag of flour, a block of butter, a bag of oats, and a bag of sugar. So a mix will be cheaper if only doing a one off.

Also requires a little more confidence - could be someone new to making their own food. Or someone who doesn't feel confident 'baking' something right now for various reasons.

Also making a crumble then requires you to use your fingers to mix and crumble it generally. Arthritis in the fingers would make that really painful - even if only a few minutes for your average person.I'm quite sure there are other medical and/or health conditions which would make it trickier.

So a pretty judgemental comment based on one very short list.

I think I'm more surprised that a shopping list was picked up and purposely taken home and photographed 😂

Are you fairly new to MN?
There used to be regular 'seen at Waitrose' shopping list threads on here in the past - and iirr it's where 'naice ham ' was once spotted too.

10HailMarys · 26/08/2023 20:44

If people are fascinated by other people's shopping lists, I recommend this Facebook group:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/305360209661209

People tend not to sneer at people's purchases though, so if you just want to slag people off for not wanting to spend time on making a crumble, it's probably not for you.

The bottom of PIL back garden has a door onto a track that runs down through fields for about 3 miles to another village. It is heaving with blackberries. MIL has frozen lots for winter. The children went collecting with her today and came back with lots and DH has promised he'll make blackberry crumble (or 'blackbry grumble' as DS2 says) with them tomorrow for tea. How do you freeze blackberries? I'm sure my granny stood them in salted water incase there were any insects in them, then rinsed them. Is that right?

Packet cheese sauce is disgusting though.

Might be fresh cheese sauce, often found near the pasta sauces in Waitrose.

Merapi · 26/08/2023 19:58

Only in Waitrose. Blackberries 😂
Every hedge in the country is absolutely heaving with them for free.

But lots of us aren't lucky enough to live near enough to brambles so we have to rely on Waitrose!

Exactly, cold milk, butter or margarine and some flour. Delia’s all in one method. Grated cheese and seasoning. Job done. 5 minutes.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 26/08/2023 20:49

I give wild blackberries a quick rinse and then freeze. Anything else like a insect adds flavour surely?

It is, but we're kind vegetarians so we soak them in unsalted water and scoop out the insects as they swim out then blow them dry and take them back outside once they've rested.

At least they aren't a judgemental arsehole

Lovemusic82 · 26/08/2023 20:52

Do people really buy blackberries? They are like £4 a punnet, you can pick them for free.
Maybe they have a really busy lifestyle which is why they can’t pick blackberries or make their own crumble topping?

Obviously their feet hurt from being so busy so they want something nice to go on their feet? 🤔

Or could be a 89 year old with arthritis

This seems very invasive! Poor woman (and yes it is almost certainly a woman). Her shopping list posted and someone is calling her lazy already. I’m just impressed she wrote a shopping list and is going to make crumble!

F0rbiddenPlanet · 26/08/2023 20:55

Veet ? (hair removal cream)

RainbowZebraWarrior · 26/08/2023 20:56

My mother usually puts "Teeth" on her shopping list. She means fizzy denture tablets. I can never remember what to search for, so I end up ringing her to ask (I do it online and she WhatsApps me her list)

The first time she wrote teeth, I assumed it was the dogs teeth stuff, so I bought dentistix.

Steradent. That's the stuff.

She also used to write shit like "something to tickle my fancy" She meant a little treat. Again, I'd have to ring her and ask sweet or savoury. Otherwise I'd end up like the Victoria Wood sketch "I couldn't get ya Raspberry yoghurt, Sandra so I got ya a meat and potato pie instead"

steff13 · 26/08/2023 20:58

I think the presence of onions attests to the mystery shopper’s cooking skills.

fluffiphlox · 26/08/2023 21:02

What sort of idle git buys ‘crumble mix’?

Hawkins009 · 26/08/2023 21:03

Is feet that health type stuff

AceofPentacles · 26/08/2023 21:03

Lol at getting your mum dentastix !

Some people need to get with the shopping list programme! People put the weirdest shit on their lists (and I always leave mine in the basket in the hope it makes a MN shopping list thread).
