New Look - no paper receipt

I was in New Look the other day and a lady was getting a bit upset as they wouldn’t give her a paper receipt, they said email only.
I personally feel it’s not right to not be able to have that proof in your hand at the point of sale if you want it. What do others think ?

I'm with her. Give people the choice of paper, email or nothing. I don't want to give my email address out here, there and everywhere, nor do I want my inbox to be filled with receipts and other unnecessary emails so that New Look can pad their 'sustainability' marketing crap. They'll undoubtedly sign you up for some mailing list, too. It's needless admin having to deal with digital receipts. If I want a paper one, give me a paper one.

I will always ask for a paper receipt, I don't give out my email address to all and sundry.

But the member of staff at New Look wouldn’t give her one, and I didn’t get one either as I wouldn’t give my email address.

I was on New Look yesterday and got a paper receipt. She asked if I had an email address for the receipt, I said no I don't (I do really) and a paper receipt was printed.

I never give my email address in these circumstances. I'm autistic and I just want to do the transaction and leave. I find giving my details painful tbh, It feels so bad to me that I avoid it as much as possible and I think when making a clothing purchase all they need is my money.

The only way New Look will change their policy is if people vote with their feet and walk out without their purchases, but I think their target market will quite happily give email addresses.

Personally, I don't give out my email to shops but I haven't yet been refused a paper one (I don't shop in New Look though).

So I'll have my
Dodgy email from age 14 that everyone knows
Sensible email used for work/companies/shopping
Email I'll set up which will be something like mysurnamereceipts@hotmail

Is it law that you should be given a receipt?

I don't buy a lot there but that would stop me going there in future

Obviously the savings will be more than the few things I buy so they won't care but I hope it s not the start of a trend , looking at you Dunelm and Argos

How do you prove you haven't stolen something if they don't give a paper receipt and you refuse to have an email? what happens if they mistype your email address and then say they sent it but you don't receive it? I've mistyped my own address enough times, never mind a stranger in a hurry in a busy shop.

H&M does this too now.

I work somewhere where we have to ask for people's email address but we still give a paper receipt too. I've been told that may change in future.

I've signed up to a few theatres and museums and I accept they're going to send me notifications of exhibitions and plays. I don't want to get emails from a shop I might have been into once and never again.

Yes I was in there a couple of weeks ago and the sales assistant made it sound like it wasn't optional. I told her I only wanted a paper receipt and she begrudgingly gave one to me.

On the tills at my work, we have two buttons to click after typing in an email address:
'Ok with marketing'
'Ok, no marketing'

We are supposed to ask the customers preference but we all just click 'no marketing' to save time.

I won't give my email address to shops. never had a problem getting a paper receipt but if there was I'd write one out and ask them to sign.

They're unlikely to exchange or refund on clothes without proof of purchase.

I went into H&M in my local large town and discovered their till is now self service!! Took 5 times as long. What fresh hell is this??
