Holiday makers at it in hot tub...

We have a couple of converted barns as holiday rentals. Before anyone starts, no we can't get residential permission on them and no we don't make much money at all especially now the business electricity is so high (and no we don't get help for that). Anyway, they have good sized gardens and are not too far from the sea so attract families with small children this time of year. They also have hot tubs. Last night was the first warm and sunny evening since last check in and guests in one cottage (two adults) were having sex very loudly in their hot tub at 9pm (along with loud music). I'm not sure if they thought they couldn't be heard because a hot tub is pretty loud if you are in it. Or maybe they just don't care but hot tub noise is NOT loud to surrounding gardens, fields and houses and we can quite often hear people's slightly raised conversations in them. There are not many buildings or traffic noises around to drown out noises. I shuffled our kids off to bed pretty sharpish. The guests know we live on site when they book and have heard our neighbours kids during the day because their garden is almost next to theirs and also sound travels really, really well here. Anyway this has given us the ick big time. They are here until the weekend. I want to say something to them so it doesn't put off other guests. OH does not think we should (he also wants to get rid of all hot tubs asap!) and has dragged himself to work as per usual so it's just me and the kids. WWYD?

Tactful email?
Hi guests, hope you are enjoying all the facilities.. Just a heads up all this barren farmland helps noise travel. ..
Regards op.

madeofcheeze · 25/07/2023 10:31

Pretty gross but they've not done anything illegal and presumably thought they couldn't be heard. Ask them if they're aware how far sound travels. That might put them off, or not. Then get rid of the hot tubs

SirChenjins · 25/07/2023 10:32

Get rid of the hot tubs - grim things anyway, and in a holiday rental they are going to be used for sex. Then send an email along the lines of @Seasideanticscanleadtosandybuckets suggestion

SirChenjins · 25/07/2023 10:33

Send email then get rid of hot tubs - is what I meant! Removing them while the guests are in situ is a bit ott!

Hintofreality · 25/07/2023 10:33

Go over with several bottles of bleach and announce your need to decontaminate the hot tub as water tests this morning showed unusually high levels of a sticky white substance.

cocksstrideintheevening · 25/07/2023 10:34

And this is why I don't go in hot tubs

Rainbowqueeen · 25/07/2023 10:35

A notice in your welcome pack and near the hot tub saying “please be mindful of your neighbours when using the hot tub - sound tends to travel further at night. Hot tubs must be vacated by 10pm and noise kept to a minimum after 8pm”

Or whatever times work for you

LizBennet · 25/07/2023 10:35

Hahaha bet your neighbours love you 😑

fgfhds · 25/07/2023 10:35

OP this might be the first time you've heard it but it won't be the first time it's happened...

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 25/07/2023 10:36

Not be funny, but what did you think would happen when you installed hot tubs? Everyone knows they’re warm sex ponds full of other peoples bodily fluids. Though enough chlorine should kills most of the left over little swimmers.

ShowOfHands · 25/07/2023 10:39

I despise hot tubs. They're human soup, full of semen and piss. You couldn't pay me to dip my toe in one of them.

Spottydressinggowngirl · 25/07/2023 10:39

Grim!! I actively avoid booking places with hot tubs for exactly this reason. Dirty sex ponds 🤢

just real them you’ve had a noise complaint and ask them to be mindful of other guests. And maybe hand them some bleach?

GoodChat · 25/07/2023 10:41

I would tell them. You and your neighbours both have children. They might be on holiday but they need to respect their surroundings, and nobody needs to hear that. Especially not children.

Pringleface · 25/07/2023 10:42

I’d get rid of the hot tubs. It will save you a vast amount of money.

Loveys · 25/07/2023 10:42

Shagging in hot tub on holiday shocker! Hope they had Prosecco as well 😂

get rid of them if you want but people
will have sex anywhere on holiday - well I did but now I'm old and need a good springy mattress

Warm sex pond, oh my god 🤢🤢 not sure those hot tub breaks I keep trying to persuade DH to go on are looking as appealing now 😂

TeeBee · 25/07/2023 10:45

I'd put a notice on their hot tub 'Decommissioned for cleaning'. If they complain, let them know why you're having to empty it. I'm not averse to hot tubs but your guests are grim.

ShirleyPhallus · 25/07/2023 10:46

This is why I’d never book a holiday letting with the owners nearby. Even though they always say they won’t disturb etc they actually do always have eyes and ears on what you’re doing

It’s a bit gross but not illegal and certainly not your place to say anything

PinkFootstool · 25/07/2023 10:47

How are the chemicals in the tub managed during a stay?

If definitely let them know they ha e been heard. I'd also add a few signs / notices about noise....

Worldgonecrazy · 25/07/2023 10:49

I would let them know they could be heard.

I presume you give the hot tubs a thorough clean and empty between guests? I know it’s a full day job plus hearing time, but otherwise you are equally as grim.

You may also want to provide guests with information about hot tub chemistry and why it’s not a good idea to get the water in any intimate areas.

buzzlightyearsgloves · 25/07/2023 10:49

What did you think would happen with hot tubs? They are called sex ponds for a reason.

notanotherclairebear · 25/07/2023 10:51

Oh my goodness, as if you could go over with a bottle of bleach for them 😅 how ridiculous, they are paying guests and not doing anything illegal. Do you wash the sofas, carpets etc after every guest? Because I can promise you that the hot tubs won't be the only place that have seen sexual activity!

Iamacatslave · 25/07/2023 10:53

People have sex in hot tubs 🤢

Backstreets · 25/07/2023 10:54

Agree these are just the first guests you’ve HEARD. I’d do like DH - pretend like nothing and then get rid of them!

OhComeOnFFS · 25/07/2023 10:56

Arrrgh am I the only person who thought the water would be changed after each set of visitors?
