Holiday makers at it in hot tub...

We have a couple of converted barns as holiday rentals. Before anyone starts, no we can't get residential permission on them and no we don't make much money at all especially now the business electricity is so high (and no we don't get help for that). Anyway, they have good sized gardens and are not too far from the sea so attract families with small children this time of year. They also have hot tubs. Last night was the first warm and sunny evening since last check in and guests in one cottage (two adults) were having sex very loudly in their hot tub at 9pm (along with loud music). I'm not sure if they thought they couldn't be heard because a hot tub is pretty loud if you are in it. Or maybe they just don't care but hot tub noise is NOT loud to surrounding gardens, fields and houses and we can quite often hear people's slightly raised conversations in them. There are not many buildings or traffic noises around to drown out noises. I shuffled our kids off to bed pretty sharpish. The guests know we live on site when they book and have heard our neighbours kids during the day because their garden is almost next to theirs and also sound travels really, really well here. Anyway this has given us the ick big time. They are here until the weekend. I want to say something to them so it doesn't put off other guests. OH does not think we should (he also wants to get rid of all hot tubs asap!) and has dragged himself to work as per usual so it's just me and the kids. WWYD?

The only time I've stayed somewhere with a hot tub the water was changed and filters scrubbed between each stay ( definitely happened as we were still milling around when they turned up to do it )) ......please tell me you do the same ?? 😬😬😬

OhComeOnFFS · 25/07/2023 10:56

Arrrgh am I the only person who thought the water would be changed after each set of visitors?

It is in reputable places. People are exaggerating.

Get a sign or a welcome pack advising of the hot tub rules:

Go over with several bottles of bleach and announce your need to decontaminate the hot tub as water tests this morning showed unusually high levels of a sticky white substance.

🤢🤢🤢

I agree with PPs re email and getting rid of the hot tubs if you don't feel comfortable.

However, I do find it funny that - in a holiday let - people (as a whole) will probably have sex all over: bed, sofas, floor, bath, shower, kitchen etc. Yet no one mentions how disgusting this is and how everything needs to be bleached and burned after every changeover. Hot tubs are possibly cleaner (than a mattress, pillows, sofa etc) as they are cleaned often and full of cleaning chemicals. I know the other places I listed are "private" whereas the hot tub is outside and somewhat "public" re people over-hearing.

Oh God, this has just put me off staying in a holiday let every again!! 😖

People on holiday are going to have sex 😂it’s probably just they are extra loud so you know about it. They’ve paid for their stay and you can’t really stop them from shagging.

Nobody has a problem with sex. It's loud inconsiderate sex nobody wants.

Jongleterre · 25/07/2023 11:24

Good morning:afternoon. I'm glad you're enjoying your stay but we kindly ask that you keep the noise down whilst using the hot tub, not just the music.

For the future if you want to keep the hot tubs, install a tannoy system that you can use -
"Barn number three, calling barn number three, Mr and Mrs Smith, please keep the noise down whilst using the hot tub."

Whattodowithit88 · 25/07/2023 11:24

It’s law to have sex in a hot tub when on holiday.

Don’t be shocked but many have probably had sex all over the place, including the kitchen counters and dining table if you have one!

It's really not... it's grim! Who wants to get that hot tub water in their fanjo Envy

Hayley0203 · 25/07/2023 11:28

I totally get why it's annoying and awkward but tbh I don't think you have a right to tell them off for it, or draw attention to it. They've rented the premises so are free to have sex in the hot tub if they want to. Personally I'd just get rid of the tubs after they leave.

CherryCokeFanatic · 25/07/2023 11:29

Could you ask them to not do it again or try to keep it quiet?

Just a thought

SideWonder · 25/07/2023 11:30

Just a heads up all this barren farmland helps noise travel. ..

They may not know that voices/noise travels across water more loudly.

But also, there are public decency concerns, and you would ask them to be more respectful of other gusts.

Missingmyusername · 25/07/2023 11:32

You cannot say anything. Most of your guests probably have sex in them….

StellaJohanna · 25/07/2023 11:35

Get rid of the hot tubs. They attract trash. Try and attract better customers. Think of the sort of people who wouldn't want a hot tub and the reasons why not, and go from there.

BitOutOfPractice · 25/07/2023 11:36

What do you mean your husband “dragged himself” to work? <misses point>

Almost every single couple who books your barn has had sex on there. You’ve just not heard them.

localbunny · 25/07/2023 11:38

Hate hot tubs for all reasons above but LOVE an outdoor bath tub, so personally I'd switch to those.

Jongleterre · 25/07/2023 11:40

@StellaJohanna I agree with you.

Ghastly things.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 25/07/2023 11:43

All the people advocating sex in hot tubs and saying it’s not illegal.

That’s correct.

Unless the activity is witnessed by two or more members of the public and then you can be charged with outraging public decency.

In my wild days I’ve had lots of Al fresco sex. But never where we could be seen or overheard and particularly never in a warm soup of jizz and fanny batter.

Take it inside ffs.

Anyport · 25/07/2023 11:43

They are paying guests and even if what they are doing is not illegal it is anti-social. They need to be reminded that what there are other people with children nearby who do not appreciate their behaviour.

Blinkinbloodyhayfever · 25/07/2023 11:44

Why is everyone laughing at op for complaining about holiday makers having loud outdoor sex at her family home? They are people, not cows!
I think obviously change the water when they leave, which I hope is done anyway, and tell them you could hear them last night. The embarrassment should be theirs, not yours.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 25/07/2023 11:47

And I’d send an email asking guests not to participate in sexual activity in the hot tubs. Why pussy foot about the issue?

If they’re old enough to have sex in public they’re old enough to be asked not to.

It’s the sense of entitlement that bothers me the most. No consideration for anyone around them. Not cool.

Shoxfordian · 25/07/2023 11:47

Don’t say anything; they’re enjoying their holiday! Put a sign up for next time about noise in hot tubs or something but leave them to it

Tessasanderson · 25/07/2023 11:49

Wait for them to go out for the day and pull the fuse on the hot tub. Is it run through a mains trip switch? If so trip the switch. If they complain tell tell them there must be something wrong electrical and until its tested it cant be switched back on. You may be liable for a small refund but it sounds better than listening to amateur porn each night.
