Holiday makers at it in hot tub...

We have a couple of converted barns as holiday rentals. Before anyone starts, no we can't get residential permission on them and no we don't make much money at all especially now the business electricity is so high (and no we don't get help for that). Anyway, they have good sized gardens and are not too far from the sea so attract families with small children this time of year. They also have hot tubs. Last night was the first warm and sunny evening since last check in and guests in one cottage (two adults) were having sex very loudly in their hot tub at 9pm (along with loud music). I'm not sure if they thought they couldn't be heard because a hot tub is pretty loud if you are in it. Or maybe they just don't care but hot tub noise is NOT loud to surrounding gardens, fields and houses and we can quite often hear people's slightly raised conversations in them. There are not many buildings or traffic noises around to drown out noises. I shuffled our kids off to bed pretty sharpish. The guests know we live on site when they book and have heard our neighbours kids during the day because their garden is almost next to theirs and also sound travels really, really well here. Anyway this has given us the ick big time. They are here until the weekend. I want to say something to them so it doesn't put off other guests. OH does not think we should (he also wants to get rid of all hot tubs asap!) and has dragged himself to work as per usual so it's just me and the kids. WWYD?

This is why I’d never book a holiday letting with the owners nearby. Even though they always say they won’t disturb etc they actually do always have eyes and ears on what you’re doing

I agree. Leave them alone. I would never go in a hot tub because I fully expect them to have been used for sex many many times 😆

Well I just spent a trip away for couples only , every accommodation had a private outdoor space with a hot tub - yes I had sex in it ! Sorry not sorry , lighten up people

No-one cares if you had sex in a hot tub - unless you’re saying you had noisy sex in it knowing that other people and their children were in close proximity and could hear every grunt. In which case, no-one needs to lighten up to that because it’s fucking grim.

I’d pop over, bit of a grin on your face and just mention everyone can hear everything and maybe keep private times private.

however, technically they haven’t done much wrong and probably (way too much, ick, yuk, really near other families), got carried away.
Hot tubs have gone a bit rough now, I’d get rid of them asap!

until they’re gone maybe mention to any others coming of “what happened before” so as a warning to others.

not for me, but if part get it if they were on a deserted island, but crikey with other properties around… exhibionists maybe?!

@SirChenjins No I don’t think anyone could hear , I thought the really noisy sex people only exist in movies !
It’s just a resort where it’s couples only ! No kids and families. Regardless I wouldn’t be doing it if I thought there were people next door on the balcony or anything and could hear, but I think it’s naive of the pp the think couples won’t do this in a hot tub ! I think it’s to be expected

The OP said her issue was the volume of it and the fact that she, her kids and the neighbours could hear. Some people are determined to read that as her saying no one should have sex at all. But she's saying - and many of us, including you are agreeing - that doing it noisily in earshot of others is the problem, not the sex itself.

@VeggieStraws ok yes I take your point, I would be totally cringe if I thought anyone could hear although I’m not sure how you can regulate or make a rule for how loud someone can be !? Maybe she needs to make it more private because of the tub is there it won’t stop people who want to …. I was mainly responding to all the people saying it’s grim … which is fine everyone has an opinion but I really don’t see a huge hygiene issue …. A computer keyboard probably has more gross germs.

Well it turns out they were just grim. The house was left in a terrible state and they left late. I wonder if they thought cleaning was beneath them? Our cleaner cried when she saw the bathroom-it was the final straw. They didn’t do their washing up, there were bits of food everywhere and they left every single bin overflowing overflowing. The stench was awful. Funny because it’s those types that always ask for early check in!
We have changed the signs near the hot tub as many of you suggested to highlight that sound travels very well etc. thanks for all your replies.

They sound awful OP - their behaviour both in and out of the hot tub showed they don’t care about anyone else but themselves. Hopefully you never have to deal with them again.

Every time I open the front door after a guest has left there is that moment of stress when I wonder what’s waiting for me. Luckily I rarely have to do my own changeovers but I dread my mobile ringing mid morning

Because I can promise you that the hot tubs won't be the only place that have seen sexual activity!

That's not strictly true, if someone reported them to the cops they would mist likely be charged, there are a few laws they can be charged under

Do you not realise that the problem here is that they did it so loudly the OP's kids and neighbours could hear it?? Literally no one on the thread is bothered that people have sex in holiday homes, they just don't want to listen to it!

In case they aren't properly cleaned. But someone objecting to jizz in a hot tub isn't someone horrified by all sex everywhere. The posts saying 'don't you know they do it in the beds too' are so patronising and missing the point. Everyone knows bedding gets changed! Not necessarily hot tub water. So beds really don't come into the discussion at all.

A decent holiday let DOES change the water as often as they change the bed linen though.

A place we stayed in for two weeks contacted me on the first Friday to ask if I would like them to drop clean bedding and towels for us to change the beds or would we prefer them to come in and do it while we were out and did we want the hot tub water changed or were we happy to keep the same water (they said that the daily tests were showing it was fine).

I was happy to change the beds myself and was happy to keep the hot tub water - but then we do always shower before using a hot tub and have never even contemplated having sex in one!

We’ve just got back from a little weekend away, the lodge we stayed in had a hot tub, upon booking we were specifically told it would be available until 7pm on the first night due to the time it takes to warm up when filled. It was also out of action from 9am on check out day so they could get it emptied and cleaned for the next guests. No hot tubs or near by ears were harmed on our weekend away.

Got to admit, about 50% of the time I'm in a hot tub there is some kind of sex involved 🙈 At friends' houses though, so they're ok with it. I don't think I would in a rental.
