Has anyone else given up on Summer?

After another miserable weekend, I feel like packing away the summer dresses and shorts 😢

It was so dull and cool this morning when I was getting dressed for work, I pulled out the opaque tights!

I feel so depressed to be giving up on summer at the end of July😞

Anyone else feeling this way?

It’s been a bit better today but low pressure arriving again by the end of the week. I always feel summer is effectively over at the end of June, tbh.

Bonjovispjs · 24/07/2023 19:22

It is miserable, but I'm not giving up just yet, we've still got the whole of August and September is often quite warm too, so fingers crossed 🤞

EversoDetermined · 24/07/2023 19:25

I'd rather have this than last year's heatwave, but it would be nice if the temperature got back up to the low 20s and a bit more sunshine again, like it was a few weeks ago. Definitely not putting away summer stuff yet, its not that cold here, anything above about 17°C is warm enough for summer clothes for me

headstone · 24/07/2023 19:27

Summer is definitely over if it ever begun. I had to put the duvet back on and finally relented and put a jumper and coat on.

Meredusoleil · 24/07/2023 19:28

I'm going back to long sleeves now and have started having to turn on the lights in the evening as it's already so dark 😩

AndAllOurYesterdays · 24/07/2023 19:28

We just need something in-between this year and last year. Don't give up yet- September is often nicer than August. You don't get the long evenings though.

Lethalinformation · 24/07/2023 19:30

Loads left for it to perk up! Keep the faith 🤜

DrCoconut · 24/07/2023 19:31

I've needed my big coat. In July. It's rubbish. Not been warm enough for shorts with the exception of one term time week in June.

I get what you mean. But it's only the end of July , we have August and most of September before it officially ends so there's time. I do feel sad for the children though. When school was on in May and June it was lovely , now the holidays are here and it's not. At least children in the NE, and in Scotland have had a bit of summer already.

HaventTheyGrown · 24/07/2023 19:39

I'm sat here in shorts and t shirt, it rained earlier but quite muggy again now, I've been pottering in the garden all afternoon. All of June was scorching hot, we had no rain at all. I am sure weather will settle down again.

Yeah it just feels that way. When the evening start getting a bit shorter it feels like we’ve had the best of it.

It's such a pity. We don't have children at home now but live in a tourist area and it's awful when the holidays start, and so does the rain!

I don't feel summer is completely over with at the end of June but I feel that May and June are the best bits. Those long long evenings. And weather nearly always nicer then!

I feel so bad for the kids being stuck inside during the summer hols🥱

Yep- we’re away next week, but north Europe so no better than here. Not sure I can be arsed packing dresses.

dd has worn her sandals once this summer - one decent day that wasn’t school shoes or trainers for sport clubs, and that’s it. Haven’t got round to buying walking sandals for ds and probably won’t bother.

On the upside, I have friends who have spent £7k on a holiday to a Rhodes leaving this weekend. She still doesn’t know if it’s happening. So my holiday packing including jumpers isn’t all that bad!

Nope I'm off to cephalonia on Sunday.

ForeverFriendsAndPierrot · 24/07/2023 19:50

Why would kids be 'stuck inside'?

Perfect playing out weather

Oblomov23 · 24/07/2023 19:51

This has got to be one of the worst summers for years.

tobee · 24/07/2023 19:52

Hoping for not another "autumn is here" year when I'm "wait! I'm still looking forward to summer!"

Be fab to have at least a late summer. Ten or so years ago we had a gorgeous mid September to October. Surely that could happen again?

tobee · 24/07/2023 19:53

Actually you can all blame me. I got some new garden furniture (finally) a few weeks ago. Pretty much the moment it got set up the weather turned. As I guessed it would. SadGrin

Caterpillargirl23 · 24/07/2023 19:54

If it doesn't cheer up before school starts again it doesn't count.

LovingLalo · 24/07/2023 19:56

You can guarantee Sep will be back into mid 20s. I don't think it got below 19c even by mid Oct. Obviously then we had - 11c in December which was a bit scary. I definitely wasn't snuggling or getting cosy, I was too concerned about my pipes freezing!
Not convinced August is going to be warm.

LlynTegid · 24/07/2023 19:56

It will be back in September no doubt.
