Has anyone else given up on Summer?

After another miserable weekend, I feel like packing away the summer dresses and shorts 😢

It was so dull and cool this morning when I was getting dressed for work, I pulled out the opaque tights!

I feel so depressed to be giving up on summer at the end of July😞

Anyone else feeling this way?

Majorly fucked off with the endless grey and wet. And everybody who goes on about how they prefer it like this rather than like last year. Gah. It’s so miserable and dreary.

Canidoitreally · 27/07/2023 18:39

I haven't given up! I am depressed by the weather, but after two decades of going to weddings in July, I had already vowed to never get married in July myself because it always seems to be miserable.

Late August and early September always seems to be nice so I'm holding out for that!

This is true. After going to a few rainy weddings in July and August in this county I decided to take the weather out of the equation and get married in October. And there was a Spanish plume and it was gorgeous!

I would not do late August. It’s DH’s birthday and it can be hit and miss. My friends got married mid September (think the 14th) and every year for their anniversary the weather is lovely. Her Dad is a farmer and said this was the best chance of a date for settled weather.

Going camping on Saturday. Last year the weather was great, we had a couple of overcast days, but it was mostly sunny.

This year its looking like a couple of sunny days, with the rest overcast.

Oh well...

newnamethanks · 27/07/2023 19:11

Yes it's bloody horrible. Had my lights on indoors today until about 2pm as its so dark and gloomy. And is it just me or is it cold? Had to get another blanket last night as woke up chilly. How can Europe be burning, poor things? Confess I wouldn't swap. Hope things stabilise soon 🤞

SchoolShenanigans · 27/07/2023 20:12

It's not that bad. We had a gorgeous May/June.

We went to Cornwall two weeks ago when the rain started. We still had a great time. Very relaxing, few trips out (rained on us a few times but not for long) and still had one sunny day at the beach.

It is what you make it. Holidays are to have fun together and rest, you can still do that when it's like that. It doesn't rain for half the day, so get out and do things, then relax in doors with hot chocolate and a film when it's cooler.

fireflyloo · 27/07/2023 20:17

I'm done with summer. I want to fast forward to end of September where the nights are getting darker and I can light my fire. I'm sitting here with socks and a wool cardigan.

Why on earth would children be stuck inside, it’s rain not fucking acid?

we’re farmers, so at the moment we’re particularly fucked because the rain means we can’t get harvest in and too much warm and wet will flatten it and it will rot. The fact our livelihood depends on the weather makes my dry weather woes fairly trivial. We went out for a day with the kids today, it rained a bit but they were togged up and bonus there weren’t loads of people around.

I agree! I live in the Lake district and the usually busy swim spots are much much quieter 😀

Fluffylittlepup · 27/07/2023 20:35

We are in autumn, the seasons have now changed and we are to blame it on climate change. The blackberries are almost ready for picking, look forward to a very long winter with extortionate fuel costs.

It wasn’t gorgeous in May. It was dry but cloudy and not warm.

June was nice that was our summer.

Delatron · 27/07/2023 21:30

And nobody wants bloody hot chocolate in July.

RampantIvy · 27/07/2023 21:41

It's not that bad. We had a gorgeous May/June.

No. Everyone didn't. You did. Only the West side of the UK had the lovely weather. Here in South Yorkshire we had had two weeks, just two weeks of summer weather.
We went straight from winter to summer on 10th June, and now it feels very autumnal, and we are still in July.

I don't want to snuggle under a blanket and drink hot chocolate in July, and "cosy" can do one.

MovedonfromMartin · 27/07/2023 21:48

Going away tomorrow. This is the forecast. Decided not to take sandals. Packing the jigsaws and the waterproofs. I'm sulking.

Has anyone else given up on Summer?

Exactly. It’s so annoying when people claim we had a nice May. It was ok in some areas but it didn’t resemble Summer.

gingerguineapig · 27/07/2023 21:51

We went straight from winter to summer in early June and I live in the south of England. It was fine all through May, but there was a cold wind the whole time.

I don't think June was actually that hot, but it seemed it because it was such a jump in temperatures. Either that, or the temperature gauge was wrong!

It isn't cold now, it was cloudy today but 21 degrees.

The words Hot and Chocolate need to be banned on Mumsnet

Erm unless we are talking about hot sex and a huge bar of chocolate....

Luckydip1 · 28/07/2023 08:23

This weather is why I don't risk going on a UK holiday, soz.

LimeCheesecake · 28/07/2023 08:35

@Luckydip1 - we’re off to france next week - except the weather has broken and it’s going to rain every day on us too. so it’s the med and bake or anywhere else and shiver. Fabulous.

I think uk holidays in October or feb are great because you assume it’ll rain and you budget to do stuff every day, I’ve yet to manage to time it right for a sunny uk holiday where we just go to the beach daily, always end up spending a fortune keeping the dcs entertained in the rain and then thinking that in total I could have booked a week somewhere hot.

Yes. I don't understand the mumsnet obsession with snuggling under a blanket with a hot chocolate.

I think Snuggle and Cosy need to be banned as well

LimeCheesecake · 28/07/2023 09:15

I do like a good snuggle under a blanket with a hot chocolate - on a winters afternoon after being out in the cold having done something. It is not an activity in itself, it’s a warm up and watch a film after an activity.

and you shouldn’t need to warm up after being outside in the fucking summer!

Delatron · 28/07/2023 09:56

I do find France unreliable too, went 3 years in a row and the weather was bad (August). So now have to go further South for guaranteed sun and warmth.

Delatron · 28/07/2023 09:58

If we’re snuggling under blankets now in July that’s a whole year of snuggling. Apart from 3 weeks in June.

How insanely boring and quite frankly lazy. I don’t want to lie on the sofa like some ill person, I want to be outside in my shorts enjoying a lovely balmy sunny evening. That isn’t t happening.

pinkchampagne1 · 28/07/2023 10:47

Just depressed myself by looking at the BBC 10 day forecast. Rain showing pretty much every day right up until 9th August. This is the south east. 😞

RaraRachael · 28/07/2023 11:19

This is the worst summer I can remember in years. Every day - temp of 15 to 17 degrees and rain at some point. The one saving grace is that it's not that brilliant in England either.
