Has anyone else given up on Summer?

After another miserable weekend, I feel like packing away the summer dresses and shorts 😢

It was so dull and cool this morning when I was getting dressed for work, I pulled out the opaque tights!

I feel so depressed to be giving up on summer at the end of July😞

Anyone else feeling this way?

I've had enough, booked to go to Cyprus next week😎

Emamazing · 25/07/2023 11:18

Feels like we haven't really had a summer this year. Here we had a few days of warm weather and ever since it's been wet and cold. Not being able to get out is driving me crazy and the girls are all over the place. Can't even go to the park because it just keeps pouring... Hoping August will be a warmer sunnier month ☀️

Thanks, cannot wait to get some relief for my poor arthritic bones, its rained here for weeks 😃

I find this expectation around summer so weird, maybe as don’t have kids so I don’t usually even know it’s school hols. It’s pointless expecting anything of the weather in UK, just ignore it and have fun

Puddlesuits 😃. Whether they're four or fourteen, the answer is always puddlesuits.

Toddler, grumpy teen or politely bored uni student back for the holidays - whatever the age, just send them out in a puddlesuit to jump in a muddy puddle and your holiday will be saved. No need for sun when you have wellies and a puddlesuit.

You're welcome 🙏.

This is either delightful parody in which case you've earned a free gin, or peak mumsnet squared times three.

I'm too old for puddle suits. I also wear glasses and can't see very well in torrential rain. I'm happy to walk in light rain, but not the kind of rain we had over the weekend - torrential horizontal rain.

I don't have small or school aged children.

My DD said to me last night, "it will be Christmas soon!" I thought, hang on, I haven't aired my shorts yet and have a week off late August to enjoy some sunshine (hopefully) having said that I like spring weather the most, warm enough to not wear a coat but not boiling hot. My DD is off to Greece next week and that would be a nightmare for me as they have extreme heat at the moment

ManchesterLu · 25/07/2023 12:04

I'm feeling really, really down about summer this year. I suffer from SAD and the summer months bring such fantastic relief normally. This year has largely been rainy, which makes our living room look dark and miserable, and it's as if winter has never gone away, even though it's obviously warmer whether it's raining or not.

It feels like I'm not going to get the relief I usually get, at all, and it's really getting to me.

We used to have these, usually from Muddypuddles if that's still going. Teens would strongly object to a puddle suit now I think. Grin

Unprecedented wildfires. Drought. Heatwaves. But you're upset about our lack of summer? This is why we're screwed.

they are both part of the same thing. Climate scientists have said for decades that global warming in total would be wetter in north Europe.

thought predictions were north uk at least to be much wetter and miserable, southern Spain/Italy etc to be consistently hotter and both places weather change would make crops harder to grow.

it’s pretty depressing all round.

Mutabiliss · 25/07/2023 12:20

It's looking like it's going to warm up again in mid-August, and September is often warm and sunny. July is often a bit rubbish, but we had a lovely early summer.

I'd far rather this than 40+!

Felixinthefactory · 25/07/2023 12:39

Just back from a week in Sicily. 46° and wild fires on the day we came home. Loving today's 16°.

Chipsahoy · 25/07/2023 12:56

Third week of holidays here. In north east Scotland and barely had any sunshine or warmth.

We're hoping to go to Scotland next year. We went last year but youngest DD got a tummy bug so it wasn't much fun.

I hope it warms up for you x

I feel for you as I’m exactly the same. The thought of going in to Autumn and Winter with little respite is very worrying for me. Even if the sun does come out it’s not for long.

It also means I lose my rag when people who don’t like summer claim to get ‘reverse SAD’ that’s not a thing! Plus in this country you’ll do just fine with reverse SAD you’ll be on top of the world for the 10 plus months we get of dreary, cool, rainy weather. Try having actual SAD with no summer!

However, I saw a few of the knowledgeable weather posters on here say there are signs it will settle down and warm up from mid August. I really hope so as that’s 6 weeks of summer we’ve lost - start of July to mid August. Normally the best weather at this time too.

happywotsit · 25/07/2023 14:02

All of July has been shit for my area in Scotland. I have the heating on in my office today. I hear no change until at least the end of the first week in August. That’s about 10 days before the kids go back to school. I would put money on 18th August being glorious when the kids go back.

pinkchampagne1 · 27/07/2023 16:59

It’s still so grey and cold and the forecast looks pretty miserable for the next 10 days. It doesn’t feel like summer. 😞

Emamazing · 27/07/2023 17:20

It's been warmer today but still wet.

pilates · 27/07/2023 17:36

I would rather be here than in Rhodes or the unbearable heat in Spain.

I keep reading we are going to have a heatwave not sure when though.

pinkchampagne1 · 27/07/2023 17:48

My sister is off to Italy today. I know it is likely to be unbearably hot but I am also a little envious as she gets to escape this grey miserable weather.

RampantIvy · 27/07/2023 18:02

This afternoon I have been pulling up weeds that have sprung up due to all the rain. At least it didn't rain on me.

Delatron · 27/07/2023 18:26

I keep looking at long term forecast but no warmth showing. Clinging to the reports that it will settle down and warm up from mid August but that’s still more weeks of this.

Delatron · 27/07/2023 18:27

It’s humid here but it keeps raining!
