Has anyone else given up on Summer?

After another miserable weekend, I feel like packing away the summer dresses and shorts 😢

It was so dull and cool this morning when I was getting dressed for work, I pulled out the opaque tights!

I feel so depressed to be giving up on summer at the end of July😞

Anyone else feeling this way?

don't*

Izadrennan · 24/07/2023 21:42

Every day of the Summer holidays so far has been cool, wet, or at the very least damp (Scotland). This is the worst Summer holidays we have ever had, you have an abundance to do if the weather is at least dry, but even wellies & raincoat days are wearing thin, and there's only so many days or afternoons out you can fill up in this weather, and everything is so expensive now, no picnics in the park etc this year, can you tell I'm finding it difficult 😂

I'm going back to long sleeves now and have started having to turn on the lights in the evening as it's already so dark 😩

Where are you? I'm outside, ok street lights are on but it's nowhere near dark. The sun only set 30 minutes ago.

Sorry it's just all v dramatic. Kids have barely broken up for Summer and people are wailing over a none existent summer

loveandpoprockz · 24/07/2023 21:45

Just be grateful we don’t have the wildfires that the likes of Rhodes and Corfu have been dealing with.

Echobelly · 24/07/2023 21:51

I think people are mostly complaining as we've had an unusual run of summers with long hot spells; this is much more par for the course and not actually that bad.

We got a mostly hot June, and that's better than not having had any summer - my least favourite British summer is like we had a run of in the late 20-teens where it's just fucking 19-20C and cloudy the entirety of June, July and August. Never gets sunny, or somehow when it does, it doesn't get any warmer. Weather never changes. So boring! At least last few weeks it's varied between mild to quite warm and dry to rainy and we have had a chance to get out our summer clothes.

cocksstrideintheevening · 24/07/2023 22:15

I'm in London where it's been shit but not cold. Went to Manchester for work for a couple of days, pissing rain, cold, my colleagues were in opaques and boots. I was in flip flops 🤦🏻‍♀️

However today I am in a jumper, jeans and slippers out again back in London and considering the heating to try and get some washing dry.

No doubt as soon as the schools go back we'll have a late summer.

Surely2023IsTheYearForMyRainbowBaby · 24/07/2023 22:16

My heatings been on the last few nights.

SwanAnn · 24/07/2023 22:21

We had sun all day today. Blustery winds though.

Two years ago this part of summer was quite bad (remembering wet, miserable ten days camping on the Isle of Wight). It did perk up for a bit later in August, although wasn't as hot as other years.

ALongHardWinter · 25/07/2023 01:16

Far rather it be like this than last year's 40 degrees!

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 25/07/2023 07:52

I think it feels worse this year, as it stayed so bloody cold right up to June. We went from being cold, to hot for a couple of weeks, to damp and miserable. Normally we get a bit of warmth from Easter onwards, I definitely have pictures of being on the beach, having the paddling pool out in may, but this year has just been crap in general (except for the hot couple of weeks in June)

pinkchampagne1 · 25/07/2023 10:15

It does seem like we totally skipped spring this year, then had a short spell of intense heat in June before returning to cold, windy, damp weather. I am fed up with it.
We live on the coast and yesterday we took a walk along the seafront. It was cold and windy and there wasn’t a single person on the beach. Doesn’t feel like July. 😞

Rainraingoawaynow · 25/07/2023 10:27

I feel like the last 6 years or so have tricked us into thinking UK summers are very warm /hot for a lot of it honestly.
I remember 2017 being very hot and mostly spent doing water play with my one year old .

LimeCheesecake · 25/07/2023 10:33

I am remembering why uk holidays used to be cheap. I feel for anyone who’s invested in a holiday let, good luck for next summer. I for one will not be paying out to have a uk holiday in the summer again in a hurry.

Delatron · 25/07/2023 10:44

We have been spoilt I think in the last few years. I had a feeling we were due a rubbish one. Sob. You are right May although dry was cool. Not summery. Which is why it’s annoying when people claim it was hot for ‘the whole of May and June’ and that’s sufficient for summer. It was 3 weeks in June. Not enough to keep me going through dreary Autumn and Winter.

This weather is very typical British summertime and why I tend not to holiday here. Much rather do May half term when I expect and plan for rubbish weather.

Yes they are extortionate for a week in the rain! If we have a crap summer then I do think more people will look at abroad next year. They’ve basically doubled in price I have found.

Augustus40 · 25/07/2023 10:46

I put away my summer clothes I had been using in June so hopefully that means it will now improve!

Emmamoo89 · 25/07/2023 10:46

Nice and sunny where I am 😊

I'm sat here in shorts and t shirt, it rained earlier but quite muggy again now, I've been pottering in the garden all afternoon. All of June was scorching hot, we had no rain at all. I am sure weather will settle down again.

It isn't hot or muggy here in South Yorkshire. The sun is shining, but it is only 14 degrees. I bought some tights and a new cardigan yesterday as I am determined to get some wear out of my summer dresses.

I am back in winter clothes.

It's a pity we can't send our rain to Greece and other fire stricken areas.

ForeverFriendsAndPierrot · 24/07/2023 19:50

Why would kids be 'stuck inside'?

Perfect playing out weather

I don't class torrential rain as perfect playing out weather. We had a month's worth of rain over the weekend. Hillsborough Park will be unusable for the rest of the summer after Tramlines.

Freshair1 · 25/07/2023 10:56

Unprecedented wildfires. Drought. Heatwaves. But you're upset about our lack of summer? This is why we're screwed.

TorviShieldMaiden · 25/07/2023 10:57

I’m in West Yorkshire and it isn’t Autumn weather. It’s sunny, if a bit cloudy. I’d be boiling in tights or a jumper! It’s nice jeans and t-shirt weather.

BarrelOfOtters · 25/07/2023 11:04

What's keeping me going is a holiday booked in November, where it'll be 15 - 17 and clear blue skies and the fact that we had that lovely warm spell where I actually got my sandals out and even swam in the sea.

Last winter seemed to go on forever.

Had the electric blanket on last night.

Puddlesuits 😃. Whether they're four or fourteen, the answer is always puddlesuits.

Toddler, grumpy teen or politely bored uni student back for the holidays - whatever the age, just send them out in a puddlesuit to jump in a muddy puddle and your holiday will be saved. No need for sun when you have wellies and a puddlesuit.

You're welcome 🙏.

Greenmoons · 25/07/2023 11:16

It’s not over, for the south east at least anyway. High pressure moving in by mid August latest, bringing warm dry weather. Go on bbc weather and look at the monthly outlook for your area.
