Has anyone else given up on Summer?

After another miserable weekend, I feel like packing away the summer dresses and shorts 😢

It was so dull and cool this morning when I was getting dressed for work, I pulled out the opaque tights!

I feel so depressed to be giving up on summer at the end of July😞

Anyone else feeling this way?

RareRacheal, where do you live?

RaraRachael · 28/07/2023 11:22

I'm in NE Scotland. We had amazing weather in June just before the kids broke up for holidays.

pinkchampagne1 · 28/07/2023 12:18

We had a brief spell of lovely weather in June too. Since the beginning of July it seems to have suddenly turned into late Autumn type weather. I wouldn’t mind if we had the odd day of sunshine here and there between the showers, we expect that in the U.K., but it is just grey, rainy, windy and chilly day after day with no sign of any sunshine coming up. 😞

LimitIsUp · 29/07/2023 16:39

Here on the south coast it's been a steady 19-22 degrees with intermittent showers. Fine by me but I would like a few balmy evenings which requires day time temps to be more like 25 degrees

EversoDetermined · 29/07/2023 17:57

We're SE England and for the most part its been warm enough to sit out in the evenings, just depends on the wind. Mild if not hot during the day, certainly warm enough for shorts, tee shirts and sandals. A bit more sunshine would be nice but I'm pretty happy with it. Far better than last year when it was too hot to do anything for what seemed likes weeks on end.

Actually you can all blame me. I got some new garden furniture (finally) a few weeks ago. Pretty much the moment it got set up the weather turned. As I guessed it would. SadGrin

This was me as well. I bought some deckchairs and cushions for our garden chairs when we had that hot spell a while back.

Kiss of death to summer clearly - not used them since.

RampantIvy · 29/07/2023 18:19

I have a couple of sleeveless tops I haven't worn yet. Yesterday I put our garden bench back in the garage.

I would lovethe weather that you are getting on the south coast.

CornishGem1975 · 29/07/2023 18:26

Today has been lovely, 22 degrees (Midlands) but bloody windy!

RampantIvy · 29/07/2023 18:32

It's been nice in Newcastle today - about 20 degrees and dry.

pinkchampagne1 · 31/07/2023 08:36

I am on the south coast and it has been constant rain and grey skies other than Saturday which was lovely. Looks like it is set to continue for the next week too. 😞

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 31/07/2023 10:25

We had a nice day in Dundee on Saturday, one v light shower during the afternoon, but plenty of sun and blue skies until after 9, v nice sunset watching Bastille.

RaraRachael · 31/07/2023 10:27

We had a lovely day in NE Scotland yesterday. Warm and sunny all day and I even got my washing out to dry which I hadn't done for ages. It was interesting to see the cricket was rained off and there was terrible weather at a golf event in Wales.
Somehow people always assume that wherever they are, the weather will be worse in Scotland - it isn't always.

WestwardHo1 · 31/07/2023 10:35

I haven't given up

You're going to get the "yay I'm going to snuggle up with hot choc and fairy lights" brigade though. The people who wilt in 15°C.

They’ve already started. They are very pleased to start Autumn snuggling (festering) under a blanket from July. What a lovely long autumn/winter for them it will be this year. You’d think snuggling under a blanket would get boring if you do it for 11 months of the year but apparently not

Same here. Saturday was nice-ish, still really windy and not very warm but at least it wasn’t raining.

We’ve got a massive sailing event here this week and so far it’s a wash out. I really feel for all the local businesses - they usually make a big chunk of their annual turnover this week, but when I went to pick DD1 up from work last night, town was dead. It’s suck a shame.

Fuck hot chocolate and fairy lights, we have 9-10
months of the year for that. I would like some sun and warm weather - although, right now, I’d settle for a break from the rain

Hoping for not another "autumn is here" year when I'm "wait! I'm still looking forward to summer!"

Be fab to have at least a late summer. Ten or so years ago we had a gorgeous mid September to October. Surely that could happen again?

I was pregnamt that year - went on mat leave in september and loved lazy sunny days waiting for the bbaby!

undereaves · 31/07/2023 11:13

It was pleasant, sunny weather yesterday, even with the occasional light shower. Looks like we might get a couple of hot weeks later August.

Delatron · 31/07/2023 11:14

Looked at my weather app again and from next Friday it’s showing a bit of solid sun for 3 days. Not that warm though - 22 degrees but right now 3 days of sun, no wind or rain sounds good would love some higher temps though. Mid 20s would be nice. Sorry this is in th SE but hoping it gets better for everyone. It will probably change though - if that bloody jet stream doesn’t shift!

Yes we have 9-10 months of crap weather in this country yet still that’s not enough for some. I can’t think of anything worse than lying under a bloody blanket on the sofa for months on end in the dark.

NewspaperTaxis · 31/07/2023 12:35

In all fairness, it is warm weather and sun peeps thru occasionally, I don't feel cheated. Gardens look nice, not all burnt out like they would be otherwise.

1985 was a poor year, just cloud all the time, no real sun except for the day of Live Aid. Shame, because we had songs like Madonna's Into the Groove and Holiday, tailor-made for sunny days, but they didn't quite work for cloudy days, you were better off with Kate Bush's Cloudbusting and Running Up That Hill from that year, it caught the mood better.

RampantIvy · 31/07/2023 12:37

It's 15 degrees here. I don't class that as warm.
We have had colder summers.

useless1000 · 31/07/2023 12:46

I want to have the doors open and have dc running in and out of the garden and paddling pool, instead they are wearing jumpers and I've got the dryer on Sad

Hedjwitch · 31/07/2023 12:54

Stuck in the car in a car park waiting for current downpour to ease up so I can make a dash for it. Absolutely belting down

SecretVictoria · 31/07/2023 13:51

It’s been throwing it down all day here (NW). I hate it. Next sign of sun is 11 August. I can’t believe we have an 11 month winter 🙁

pinkchampagne1 · 31/07/2023 14:53

It is really depressing. We have barely had any days where we can enjoy sitting in our garden this year. I was hoping to cycle to the beach during my time off work this summer but it hasn’t been beach weather.
It is the feeling that there is no light at the end of the tunnel that makes it worse. My weather app just shows day after day of rain for the next week and a bit.

LovingLalo · 31/07/2023 15:12

@pinkchampagne1 well of course there is no light at the end of the tunnel because this is what we have done to our own planet. We have been told for us it will mean wetter summers. This is the proof.
