What are your most remembered threads or posters ?

I know this has been done before but I'm bored shitless.

I went on a classics binge whilst poorly a while back (I know I know...) and found some lovely ones I never knew about. The jar of tuna being sent across country to be opened was lovely, and 'should I pay the carpet fitter' had me doing an actual LOL.

I liked the guinea pig poetry thread.

Wheresmyrobe · 26/07/2023 19:50

As someone who has not been here for decades but constantly sees it mentioned- what is penis beaker?

Guinea pig poetry thread?? How did I miss this ??? Do you have a link? I've kept piggies most of my life and have written little ditties about every piggy I have ever owned.

Oblomov23 · 26/07/2023 19:56

Love reading these threads.

Beenhereforever1978 · 26/07/2023 19:59

I have a very old thread that ran forever, recently I sent it to my (now grown up) daughter because it was all about our old house and what it was like living there, like a diary from years ago.

I am now about to read about guinea pigs. Any other recommendations? I've read most of the ones mentioned here.

It was Riven, not Raven.

Mmmm, quite right so it was, a long time ago now

As in Hark the Herald Angels Sing (Riven with healing in His wings) as opposed to Edgar Allan Poe

I can completely relate to that, and it still happens now on mumsnet. I was having a complete nervous breakdown due to being gaslit and my ex-husband using the court system to manipulate my children. It’s literally taken 10 years to get the kids and I back onto an even keel. I don’t think my little one will ever recover. The older kids are functioning but it takes very little to tip them over. And I was being called a Cunt on here.

Called a cunt? That's awful. They're the cunts. Not you .

I don't get why people get upset when other MNetters don't take their advice. Not all advice is helpful and sometimes we need a listening ear more than anything.

The whole thing of A Prominent Mumsnetter who was also a freelance journalist trying to start a regular column in the Daily Mail "Today On Mumsnet" and using entire threads about school run dresses and parent & child parking spaces etc, and presumably getting paid handsomely for it, way surpassed the Moldies in terms of scandal for me. Circa 2009.

Oh, yes! I'd forgotten about this. We all (well some of us) created anti Daily Mail names to stop any straightforward copying and pasting. I'm pretty sure the journalist did, I think, have a bit of a grievance against MN. In a earlier thread, a post before theirs was deleted which left theirs to look completely out of context and racist (I think) when it completely wasn't. And MN refused to reinstate the deleted post. God, can't believe I remember that.

Exactly. Sometimes it's about having a place to talk. Things can't always be fixed with MN advice .

Sorry if it's already been mentioned, but does anyone remember the threads with Sharon t.rex-ing in Asda? 😂

There was a poster who fascinated me on a long running relationships thread tears and years ago. She was obviously using it for advice/support/to help her think but early on she said her ex had discovered the thread. She kept updating on the same thread under the same using name, saying what she thought she would do next and why and I’d wonder if her ex was also reading and this was impacting on how he was responding.

I think that might have been TheDevilWearsPrimark? I think she had real life meetups with MNers but there were also accusations she was a troll. I don't quite remember how that ended up, but definitely her DH was apparently stalking her online.

I remember MNers setting her a 'test' to prove it was her not her DH that was posting at one point which gives a sense of how much smaller it was and more familiar people were with each other.

everywhichwaybutthetruth · 26/07/2023 21:31

I really vividly remember Posie Parker from way back in the day. She was a SAHM who was angry that her DH earned a lot of money and 'just coasts'.

She got involved when Riven was meeting David Cameron to speak about disability provision. Turned up with a cake looking glamorous as I recall (think she lived near Riven).

I didn't mind Posie, to be fair. Strong woman.

everywhichwaybutthetruth · 26/07/2023 21:33

Cod is on twitter. I follow her. Not sure why, it's all style and beauty and no bitching with her now. Mad to think she had all that time to post as a teacher back then, that was before I even had MN on my phone

I loved this and posted on it with my previous name at the time. I'd forgotten 'til now.

I was on Babycentre with Posie back in the day. I was quite surprised at the absolute seachange in her views but I respect her massively and am just a bit sad that her campaign has been hijacked by dodgy factions at times.

WhenIWasAFieldMyself · 26/07/2023 22:42

PS I think it was an apple pie and she was going to be "just popping by" with it when DC visited Riven.

The DevilWearsPrimark was the poster Zombie "rescued" that night.

She was probably also the creepy fucker posting all night on the thread telling people off and almost taking command of the whole mad situation. (can't remember the name a short three letter one, Bod? Something like that)

Rhubarb also was heavily involved that night defending DWP.

I think DWP was also another username who used to sleep on people's sofas.

Thankfully we are hopefully more savvy these days and can spot a scammer more easily.
