What are your most remembered threads or posters ?

I know this has been done before but I'm bored shitless.

Moldies was a load of nonsense. I can't believe people were hurt they weren't included. Its the Internet, its not school. Thats one thing i don't miss, the cliquey shite.

PrincessFiorimonde · 25/07/2023 18:08

There was a poster whose name I can't remember - think it began with an A; she may have done the Talk Roundup when MP stopped doing it? Anyway, another poster was a bit concerned about some symptoms and A said it could be an ectopic pregnancy and the poster should go to A&E immediately. Turned out A was correct, and the other poster could have been in a bad way if she hadn't taken her advice.

Aitch

Imdrivinginmygetawaycar · 25/07/2023 18:11

AtYourCervix? I loved that name but may not be the same poster

neverthemore · 25/07/2023 18:13

I completely get the whole nostalgia thing but I prefer it now, not so N London cliquey and more diversity and no CAT subscription. Love the anonymity of being a tiny insignificant fish in an enormous goldfish bowl.

PrincessFiorimonde · 25/07/2023 18:14

Aitch! Yes, of course. Thanks @BIWI

The whole thing of A Prominent Mumsnetter who was also a freelance journalist trying to start a regular column in the Daily Mail "Today On Mumsnet" and using entire threads about school run dresses and parent & child parking spaces etc, and presumably getting paid handsomely for it, way surpassed the Moldies in terms of scandal for me. Circa 2009.

LindorDoubleChoc · 25/07/2023 18:20

Moldies made me laugh, or perhaps that's in retrospect. I didn't want to be part of it as I wasn't an oldie then. I remember thinking "off you fuck then".

Random789 · 25/07/2023 18:24

I don't think the feminist board is men-hating. It does have a weird dynamic and is sometimes a difficult place to post (always has been). But it isn't men-hating. I'm a mum of two boys and have never experienced it that way.

If I remember rightly, there wasn't a feminist board back in the day, but feminist discussion thrived across the forum to such an extent that the regulars on feminist threads asked MNHQ for a dedicated topic. I thought it was a bad idea, because I loved the fact that feminism was woven across the whole forum, but it was a popular idea and MNHQ were happy to oblige.

Then it became slightly weird because there were so many posters on the feminist board who were rather aggressive in the way in which they policed the range of acceptable opinions (and acceptable posters). And there were lots of acolytes who banged on about how wise the alpha posters were.

It reminded me of the dog topic, which (weirdly) had the same righteous dynamic, with one particular poster who absolutely leapt on anyone who didn't entirely replicate her veiws about dog ownership/training etc. Her name had Viking in it as I recall.

Ah yes Aitch! Loved her. What happened!?

I remember that! And she started threads with this in mind, but not telling people.

I think it was because back then the place was smaller and some people actually knew each other. I remember the problem it caused at one of the meet ups I went to. It was all very odd.

Beenhereforever1978 · 25/07/2023 19:29

I have just settled into the Victoria Sponge thread like a comfy old dressing gown. Gawd bless whoever posted the link to that!

HaroldMeaker · 25/07/2023 19:45

I enjoy the astringency of the feminist boards and have learnt a lot from them.

I agree about the sponge competition thread, so cosy Grin

LindorDoubleChoc · 25/07/2023 19:57

I prefer the Feminism boards these days. But then I am one of those hateful old gq TERFS, so it suits me. Somewhere on the internet has to keep an eye on all things related to women's rights.

NaughtyBoyGeorgeMichaelJacksonBrown · 25/07/2023 20:05

I remember a relationship one back in 2012 where the poster's husband left while she was out and took everything, including all his artisan chutney (he was christened a Chunt). Both her and the mistress were pregnant and both had the babies. I followed and posted to her for a long time and hope she is getting on fabulously now. She was so strong.

I had been through similar the year before and had posted and been called spineless, a complete fool and a coward (by some on the relationship board who are still posting today) for struggling to let cheating H go whilst newly pregnant, so it wasn't all sisterly solidarity back in the day. It made me remember to always think twice before posting something that might upset someone.

Imdrivinginmygetawaycar · 25/07/2023 20:42

I have learnt so much from the feminist board and mn in general before that.

LuluGuinea · 25/07/2023 21:11

I wasn't there in the earliest days. Think I started around 2013. But I have had a very on and off membership and namechanged loads, flounced a few times.

I remember a couple of lovely posters who were checking after I posted a very difficult experience of surviving CSA and had been accused of trolling. ItalianGreyhound, and LiviaDrusillaAugusta.

I recall SparklingBrook, Lewiji, EatShitDerek and Crumbs. Bertrand Russell. Does anyone remember HelenaDove?

Memorable (for me) include:_

Op, your minge!
Hugo
Baking
Elderly Korean day in garden
Lemon drizzle PTA cake sale
Screaming in Sistine chapel
He ate a fat ball!

Sharon, wasp, wine
t Re x in asda

And a lovely one by one of MN's few male posters who had discovered he was going to be a grandad and was wanting to skip around in an "elephant ine" manner.

I remember HelenaDove and the TRex in Asda. It still makes me smile the way he was described as t-rexing.

DanceMumTaxi · 25/07/2023 21:37

Fat balls was one of the first threads I remember reading and it got me hooked. I remember crying laughing.

Whenever my mum suggests we go to Asda "for a change" I say "only if I can t-rex while I'm there". She has no idea why I say it, I guess she assumes it's one of my quirks Grin

I don't laugh often, not nearly as often as I should but I did at that one!

DanceMumTaxi · 25/07/2023 21:52

Like many others, Your Minge! And Little old Korean Lady both really stand out amongst others. There was also a thread sbout Edwards Syndrome, I’d never heard of it before and it was just so sad. There are also some older threads that I found which really stand out as memorable too. One was about funny things that happened during labour. It was so funny.

At the time I used to be an asda shopper and remember feeling a little cheated that my local asda just wasn't that exciting!

DanceMumTaxi · 25/07/2023 22:20

I also remember when Catthiefkeith passed away. That was very sad.
