MissChanandlerB0NG · 03/07/2023 19:16

Tiger. Not that crazy but I was surprised to hear it.

A girl in my school was called Wednesday.

blitzen · 03/07/2023 19:17

A woman called Trilby Beaver

ShoesoftheWorld · 03/07/2023 19:17

I once worked with an Aphrodite and my dd went to nursery with a Wisdom (fab name), but I'd say neither are unusual per se, just unusual where we live.

forgotmyusername1 · 03/07/2023 19:17

Ufuk

I did have to ask how to pronounce it

Colleague has a Niven and an Inigo

Have they read The Ink Black Heart?

Probably, when the boy was born I assumed it was after the actor David Niven. He’s in secondary school and the girl is a preschooler

Mariposista · 03/07/2023 19:18

I knew a Kerensa and an Esmerelda. Both beautiful names - I thought they sounded like princesses.

TheMallard · 03/07/2023 19:18

@FfeminyddCymraeg my GDF was born in the Welsh colony in Patagonia.

DH’s aunt who lives in Norway knew a Thor. Apparently his surname was the Norwegian equivalent of Smith.

No you haven't - it's such an outdated urban myth, you need to catch up

Once, a long time ago, marked an exam script for a girl named Barley. A teacher from her school was on my team, and when I commented what an unusual, but lovely, name it was, told me about her sisters, Wheat and Oat. I’ve never been 100% sure whether I was having my leg pulled.

I went to school with two brothers called Bracken and Oak so anything is possible 🤣

YallaYallaaa · 03/07/2023 19:19

Because it’s usually said with a ‘look at this stupid name black parents give to their kids’ sneer.

Except they don’t.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 03/07/2023 19:19

A childminder we knew looked after a Pagan and a Sherah.

Did Sherah have a brother called Herman - with the 'r' silent?!

Bluetrews25 · 03/07/2023 19:20

Ufuk

I did have to ask how to pronounce it

What is the meaning of the name Ufuk? The name Ufuk is primarily a gender-neutral name of Turkish origin that means Horizon.
Warning: this name would not work well in English-speaking countries, due to its similarity to profanity.

Hereandgoneagain · 03/07/2023 19:01

I also came across a Whyborn (boy) once, which I thought was just plain cruel.

Not Wyborn?

That's a Norse name isn't it?

honeylulu · 03/07/2023 19:22
