So, all very innocent and respectable, then; still think I'd be inclined to change it to Roper, though...

MrsCarson · 13/07/2023 11:46

I used to know a woman called Rin. I thought it was quite nice, not short for anything.

There was a news report on Irish news a few months back that Barbie Kardashian was convinced of assault. Apparently it was a deed poll name change but the news had to report it as it was.

RainbowConnection1 · 13/07/2023 12:32

Clayne (boy).

Ilikejamtarts · 13/07/2023 12:56

Slippy (this one was a deedpoll change.... lost bet in the pub)

Serenity45 · 13/07/2023 14:31

A boy called Hendrix (yes his parents are twats). He's only 3 but am sure he might change it / use a nickname as he gets older

Godwyn (he is 16 now and HATES it)

Lacie (now in her mid 30s and hates it)

Not known personally but heard the mum shouting at her toddler in the street the other day - Renesmee (non Twilight fans won't get it but it's a horrible name IMO)

Nice ones:

Hope (and she is a lovely person too, perfect name)

Robyn (not crazy unusual but I really like it)

Grizel is Scottish. It's a version of Griselda (as in the story, popular in the Middle Ages, of 'Patient Griselda). The same shortening might be used in Germany as well - I don't know. As a child, Lady Grizel Baillie (nee Hume) was a hero; as an adult, she became a famous songwriter: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Grizel_Baillie

Philemon and Baucis is a touching story about generosity, hospitality and devoted love from Ancient Greek and Roman times:. This old translation preserves the feeling of the original story: https://www.theoi.com/Olympios/HermesFavour.html#Philemon

This is a short summary: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baucis_and_Philemon

Woman my ex DH worked with called Regula Fuchs.

Caledoniadreaming · 13/07/2023 16:49

Had a few crackers in my time:
Sinbad
Seraphina
Silver
Barnabas (middle name Jonah....)
Xanthe
Brutus (changed his name to Bruno)
Esmerelda
Chester
Montagu
Oriana - sister was Aurora, Dad was a cruise ship captain.

My mum worked in education in the early 2000s, and in one class was:
Lewis
Harris
Tarris
Skye
Mull
Islay
Arran
Iona

Clearly the Scottish island theme was strong that year. Although my brother despises his name: Niall. Pronounced Neil, every single person who meets him for the first time (or in his university tutor's case, even after 4 years) pronounces it Nye-all in the Irish/Gaelic way.

Sweetpea1532 · 13/07/2023 18:59

DD had a boy in her reception class called Colt.
Also know a Cheyenne...seeing a US western cowboy theme

Crunchymum · 13/07/2023 20:44

Not sure if it's been mentioned but there was a thread on here about a baby names after a piece of clothing? Can't remember what the OP said what it was?

RedToothBrush · 13/07/2023 20:49

Ohhh yes. I remember one.

I've met a Sveta Vagina.

Slippy (this one was a deedpoll change.... lost bet in the pub)

So not Born Slippy then?

SinnerBoy · 14/07/2023 07:42

The online assistance lady at IKEA yesterday was called Saphron. She was very nice and got me sorted very quickly.

Clawdy · 14/07/2023 08:07

Someone said child called Hendrix would probably want to change name? I think they'll find it sounds really cool!
