Once, a long time ago, marked an exam script for a girl named Barley. A teacher from her school was on my team, and when I commented what an unusual, but lovely, name it was, told me about her sisters, Wheat and Oat. I’ve never been 100% sure whether I was having my leg pulled.

I worked for an exam board many years ago and we came.accross some corkers.

Endellion. She has two siblings who also have gorgeous Cornish names but I do struggle to remember them and it does annoy her when people say it incorrectly.

Elodie. Hadn't heard it before. This was years ago, so it may be more popular now, I just haven't heard it since.

I love this name

Nemo - How sad to imagine that his parents didn't know the meaning of that name, or worse if they did.

What a beautiful name Endellion is!

I am a teacher and have come across many weird and wonderful names, but I don’t want to out myself to colleagues.

I met a woman called Xochitl once.

shinepud · 03/07/2023 19:08

Two little siblings called Rover and Clover. Not that strange individually, but especially as I was chasing them shouting their names, did make me feel like a cow and a dog were running afoot

Yes. She said her parents were hippies rather than religious so they just wanted to give her an unusual name. I would have assumed a man from the name alone as well.

We know the same person! I’m sure of it

There are several hundred girls/women in the USA called Abcde - pronounced 'AB-siddy'

Also seen and heard of quite a few women called Melina, which is pronounced the same as a condition meaning that you have blood in your poo
