I knew a girl called Easter.

Reminds me of that song’Every day is a winding road’ by Cheryl Crow

I know a girl called Honeysuckle.

Oh that is beautiful!

My next door neighbour has just named her baby Saxon. She is Scottish, so I find it rather a strange choice, but her baby, her choice!

My son went to school with a Wilbur-Junior, who always has to be referred to as his full name.

A lot of names are direct translations from another language. I am thinking that two already posted are, Comfort and Happy. They will most likely have a traditional name, which gets translated into English as some can be difficult to pronounce.

Other which are quite common are

Beauty / Beautiful
Blessing
Sunshine

For a boy Sunny
Gift
Brave
I met a chap recently named Startle
Etc.

My dd had a girl in her class called Hopalong. Every year she won the top award for athletics. 😀

And my ds has a friend named Jimmy Hendricks.

VaddaABeetch · 03/07/2023 19:26

I knew a Comfort when younger

Along those lines, I know a Winsome.

I know a Melion (a girl), pronounced Meelion. I think it's vaguely connected to the Greek for honey (as is Melissa). Pretty sure her mother made it up.

As an unusual pairing, I give you Gulliver and Diggory.

Messyhair321 · 03/07/2023 19:28

Jupiter & someone else called Strange, who had a sibling called More.

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 03/07/2023 19:31

I knew a Happy too. Happiness was her full name.

mauvish · 03/07/2023 19:31

Osiris. His brother is Horus. No, they're not egyptian.

Working in an underdeveloped part of the world, I met children called Yogurt, Chocolate, Cousellor and Cupboard. Apparently the parents had been exposed to the English language but didn't actually speak it, but these words sounded pleasant in their tongue.

Tonibler. In Kosovo. There's several teenage boys with this name.

mastertomsmum · 03/07/2023 19:31

And my ds has a friend named Jimmy Hendricks.

reminds me of Gavin and Stacey with ‘Neil the baby’ whose full name is Neil Noel Edmund

CharlotteStreetW1 · 03/07/2023 19:33

Ooh another one is Vecta, something to do with the Isle of Wight (Vectis is the Roman name. And the local bus company 😂)

Lastusernamecantthinkofanotherone · 03/07/2023 19:33

Arilola
anomali
k’la - yes really. Took me a while to realise it was Kayla. I thought it was someone pulling the L-a thing until I saw it on the register.
barclay

Blessing, comfort and other virtue names are all really popular round here.

some of the Irish names I love but are unusual in their original form. Caoilfhionn and Siadbh for example.

SadAsHell · 03/07/2023 19:33

Boy: Lucky
Girl: Teanna

NaughtyBoyGeorgeMichaelJacksonBrown · 03/07/2023 19:33

Some of these are so beautiful.

I'm a googlewhack and the tiresome jokes and corrections and misspellings carry on into my 5th decade and my unique name has cost me employment opportunities (offers sent to the wrong email because they assumed spellings), delayed mortgage apps (solicitor spelling doesn't match passport) and made work life harder (I have 4k colleagues and if they don't know my name spelling, they can't email me). I have embraced it now (but my DC are John and Jane Smith).

I've know a Tyrone Aloisious Drinkwater and a Cornelius. Love the names but sympathise with the admin.
