Is this really the place for this shit?

No idea what you mean? I didn't of course think Chenjins relative was on the Titanic, but I thought she meant he worked on a project that required visiting it & wondered what project - I see from later posts, after mine, that she meant instead a research / desk study.

I hope that helps answer your question?

3luckystars · 22/06/2023 22:15

I’m just wondering about that hatch being bolted on, and also the glass itself would need to be replaced regularly, as pressure could damage and degrade the bolts and glass on each trip.
I’m sure I heard that windows on aircraft need to have room for expansion under different pressures. It is a fine balance.
I could be way off with that thinking but the glass and bolts seems a major weak point to me.
(as a complete idiot who knows nothing of such things!)

I’m sure there will be a lot of questions asked after this.

Its all so sad. May they rest in peace.

Why do you keep pointing out that people are white or not white specifically? Notice no one else in any of these threads have spoke like that. And btw two of the men on the Titan were Pakistani British.

Migrants that paid to be in those boats and took their babies on them? Are you shitting me? Morally corrupt my arse, what is mortally corrupt is your complete contempt for these people simply because they were rich.

All of a sudden, debris and lots of info.

We’re fools if we think we weren’t fed the full story.

Was wondering how long before the conspiracy brigade came out to play.

What's eating it the rate of decomposition the response from the animals in the surrounding areas etc etc we need to learn about our own planet it might be useful someday

Well, haven't previous submarine visits told us any of this, if they were going for research purposes?

SheilaFentiman · 22/06/2023 22:16

@Scautish yes, the sunk migrant boat has been mentioned several times on each thread and that is also a tragedy.

I think that a poster went and started a thread on it, not sure where. Take a look.

I'm probably more angry than anything - the expense and effort that has gone into attempting to save their sorry asses (bar the 19 year old) is ridiculous. I hope their estate is paying for all of that - them and their stupid vanity project!!

This has been done to death.

What a horrible comment.

They are still people, like you and me.

If you do not have anything nice to say, do not say it.

Why do we there keep being variations of this post over and over again? Why are so many people conflating these two, very different tragedies? Even similar in that they are convinced everyone on board was white, when this wasn’t the case? It seems very odd to me Hmm

Trixiefirecracker · 22/06/2023 22:17

@Scautish they were not all white!

All of a sudden 😂 you mean when the right equipment got to the sight to explore the seabed? Yeah, really sudden that.

An unmanned rov could do exactly the same.

But the funding for that isn't there it seems. That's what the CEO said. But by offering these passenger trips, it meant they funded the research. Clearly this was his pet project but in some of the interviews, it's clear that he had a real passion for the ocean and in his own misguided way, was trying to do something good. Obviously that went very wrong but as a human, he was obviously flawed (aren't we all?!) but it isn't as simple as he was a bad man trying to make money out of people in his makeshift sub.

tortoishelll · 22/06/2023 21:45

I hope it didn't take days to implode and instead it was fast and painless for all involved. The alternative doesn't bare thinking about.

Surely physics dictates that's not possible? Even if just dented to start with that air inside goes nowhere all the time the vessel is intact? The air inside just gets condensed and that's not great for breathing. If it split it would fill up in a instant under the 4000m plus of water all around it. Imagine how heavy a full watering can is. Now think of them stacked over your head for 4000 metres. Now image all of that coming down on your head but in reality from every angle. That's enormous energy release.

Exactly. It's ghoulish.

EarringsandLipstick · 22/06/2023 22:19

@TheDroidYoureLookingFor

What a callous, uninformed, insensitive post, on the day the deaths of 5 people were confirmed.

Trixiefirecracker · 22/06/2023 22:20

you do know it does take time to organise these things and there’s a lot of paperwork involved and people collaborating with other countries and travel and logistics…. It’s not just like ordering it off Amazon prime! 🤣

TangBloodyFastic · 22/06/2023 22:20

I found the previous thread interesting, as sad as the situation is, as I learnt quite a bit from the posts people were making regarding the physics etc

This thread is descending into something completely different.

Thank you to the people who have enlightened me on some physics I should have probably learnt 30 years ago

To everyone else, I'll leave you to it

Dunnoburt · 22/06/2023 22:20

AllOfThemWitches · 22/06/2023 22:15

Go on then, what use was this trip to humankind?

Deep sea exploration.......the ability to master the deep.....who knows when you may need it or what you may even need it for.....but its one of the last things left to explore......but then ignorance is bliss as they say......crack on!.

pickledandpuzzled · 22/06/2023 22:21

What makes me even more fearful is that the poor 19 year old is said to have been absolutely terrified ahead of the trip, and according to his aunt only went on it to accompany his father, who was titanic obsessed.

I called this first this morning.

I said it spoke to the family dynamics that as the wealth was dad's she was merely a passenger in the marriage. I said MOST mothers would not allow their 19 yo to go to the titanic, safe sub or no safe sub, money or no money.

Apparently family had been in Canada for a month- poor boy, no way out for a month!
