Thread 5 - a continuation.

My heart aches for those poor men and their families. 💔😔

”So you don’t really give a fuck about the 500+ non-white people given you’ve not commented in that thread? But you’re having a great time “grieving” over the 4 rich and selfish idiots - who have risked a whole load more other lives in the rescue attempt. “

Incorrect.

I’m no scientist which is why I asked this question but surely this is very basic stuff. A huge oversight or negligence. I’m shocked that it could be as simple as that. I’m guessing there is no MOT as such on these subs, no tests etc. such a lack of respect for the water & under estimating how powerful it is

Apparently Oceangate had some super duper state of the art technology that continually monitored the hull.

whereaw · 22/06/2023 22:22

Why are people posting on social media and using phones and internet when other people in this world haven't got enough food to eat?

I hope you enjoy your next 'holiday' or day or two off work, but please do make sure it serves a meaningful purpose and value for the scientific community or society at large.

I found the previous thread interesting, as sad as the situation is, as I learnt quite a bit from the posts people were making regarding the physics etc

This thread is descending into something completely different.

Thank you to the people who have enlightened me on some physics I should have probably learnt 30 years ago

To everyone else, I'll leave you to it

New threads always seem to start this way. We usually get rich white men, followed by what about the migrants, the 19 year old, conspiracy theories and then a couple of posters who seem to have clicked on the thread by accident and have been asleep for the past 5 days and post ridiculous comments about fiber glass or something equally inane.

But there are always some great posters who share insights and most of us somehow find some comfort in sharing our shock and feelings about this awful event.

Agree with this. Many posters on the other thread were very measured and considerate in their explanations, whilst still helping others to understand.

It's a shame this thread hasn't kept the same approach.

EarringsandLipstick · 22/06/2023 22:15

Is this really the place for this shit?

No idea what you mean? I didn't of course think Chenjins relative was on the Titanic, but I thought she meant he worked on a project that required visiting it & wondered what project - I see from later posts, after mine, that she meant instead a research / desk study.

I hope that helps answer your question?

No, it wasn’t desk based research - what gave you that idea?

Anyway, it’s derailing the thread.

Can you say what you mean rather than being cryptic?

One minute the media say that they're still alive potentially and oxygen running out. Next we hear 'bangs' now they say they died instantly and debris has been found.

We will never know the full story.

RIP to them all.

AllOfThemWitches · 22/06/2023 22:24

Oh, stop dressing it up as a 'research the ocean' project.

Scautish · 22/06/2023 22:25

Trixiefirecracker · 22/06/2023 22:17

@Scautish they were not all white!

Yes - I deeply apologise. I realise that one was Pakistani and his son was with him.

Tinktravels · 22/06/2023 22:25

Any early loss of life is tragic, no matter your bank balance

Well first only three of them were white. Second, get off this thread. This is not the time or place for posts like yours.

I don’t know, stuff implodes and stuff explodes. Look at Challenger shuttle. It just disintegrated. Sometimes technology fails. I think it was that simple. Terrible and tragic but just a terrible failure of the technology.

tortoishelll · 22/06/2023 22:27

I guess the knocking sounds they recorded just have been the titanic shifting on the sea bed. It's eery how it does that.

whereaw · 22/06/2023 22:27

@TheDroidYoureLookingFor that's a convenient way to look at it.

AllOfThemWitches · 22/06/2023 22:27

Awful, tragic events occur every single day, often making the news. I wonder, what has piqued everyone's curiosity this time?

Is no one else uncomfortable/raging that we are glued to our tv’s about the fate of 4 rich white men (and the poor poor young son of one of them) whilst 500+ non-white refugees have drowned and we barely even acknowledge it

People have been glued to this story about the Titan sub because it's so unusual. Its like something from a film and until this afternoon we didn't know what had happened and there was lots of speculation. Its totally out of the realm of normal life.

In terms of refugees, it's absolutely tragic. However, we all know what has happened. Desperate people have escaped their homeland for a better, safer life and we understand their fate.

All these deaths are terrible obviously but I will admit I've been glued to the TV over this Titan sub. I never even knew until this week that trips like that even existed.

HotTeaPlease · 22/06/2023 22:28

Grief thief’s day out. I wonder what their next project will be.

With lots of emojis.

So caring.

I don’t think there’s a lot more to be said though, except it’s much better that it happened fast. There’s little more speculation to do now we know they found the debris from the craft.

Yes to this

DumboLives · 22/06/2023 22:30

The sub itself was the wrong shape to be strong enough. The strongest 3-d shape is a sphere, stress or pressure is distributed equally along the arc instead of concentrating at any one point (think balls, planets etc).

But it cannot fit as many people in. Hopefully this industry will get to be regulated now and not just become a cowboy enterprise.

This has been said over and over again since Thread 1. The migrant ship sinking was a major news story and is a tragedy. Most people are capable of having empathy for more than one situation at the same time. A separate thread is available for discussing the migrant ship tragedy. These threads are about Titan.

I also find it interesting how you're essentially trying to insinuate that people are racist because they don't care about migrants. At the same time assuming that because they were billionaires they must be white. Interesting perspective and one you may want to think about before attempting to virtue signal. There were five men that have tragically died, not four and they were not all white.
