Yes we know they're billionaires
We can discuss things that are horrifying and ghoulish, thanks for your opinion.
Migrant boats are sad too

As you were 😁

How horrifying that a submarine carrying 5 people has gone missing. Apparently there’s only 96 hours of air on the submarine when it sets off. The...

Oh god that's awful.

hotpotlover · 22/06/2023 21:44

Is anyone relieved that this is over? Obviously, I am not happy that they are dead but happy to know that they died an instant death instead of slowly suffocating and being buried alive.

Queenoftheworld · 22/06/2023 21:44

The two other people didn't spend the money

How can he be sued when he was on the sub and died along with the other 4 passengers? Also it’s Carbon fibre that was used, not fibre glass.

Sorry if this has been posted already, this is so sad. Apparently he went on because he dad was a titanic obsessive:

The 19 year old student who was on board the ill-fated Titan submersible had been "terrified" ahead of the voyage, his aunt claimed.

Azmeh Dawood, the sister of Shahzada Dawood and aunt to Suleman Dawood told NBC News that Suleman "wasn't very up for it" and was "terrified".

Completely irresponsible as a parent to take your child on such a voyage.
It's fine to put your own life in danger, but you should be more protective of your kid.

I am angry at this man.

BlueKaftan · 22/06/2023 21:46

His wife is rich?

Queenoftheworld · 22/06/2023 21:47

GwinCoch · 22/06/2023 21:41

Sigh… five people died, including a 19-year-old. If you’re going to be callous at least get the facts right.

Getting the hang of this now. I think the two other people were employees - they didn't pay..So I think factually correct?

BlueKaftan · 22/06/2023 21:48

An innocent 19 year old lost his life because of his dad’s hubris. And the hubris of the owner of the vessel.

The trip was a father's day present! ~ possibly from the mother/wife?

I don’t know who paid for what. But one crew member was the CEO and Co-Founder of the company. The other four were not affiliated to the company. So not factually correct.

Dunnoburt · 22/06/2023 21:50

My partner and I were divided on interest in this.... him thinking I was disgusting and myself being captivated......these guys were pioneers.....they were trail blazers......so sad but again they have made their mark......long may research continue!

Queenoftheworld · 22/06/2023 21:51

CherryCokeFanatic · 22/06/2023 21:42

Out of interest who is funding the costs of all these search efforts?

When billionaires spend what is to most a fortune, on a high risk trip, that they knew was and chose to anyway. I struggle to be empathetic about anything to do with this story.

Yes, I wondered that, too

I was about to say this. What father would want to put his child in danger? He must have thought it safe enough for the both of them - plus it was a gift.

How is this in any way helpful to tell the media? What the hell is this woman thinking? Consider his mother FGS!

How does that matter? The father was surely able to make his risk assessment and decision?

Putdownthecake · 22/06/2023 21:52

So based on the video of the CEO would the glass have crackled then boom implosion? so a split second he'd have known its over or just the whole lot in one go?

Insurance exists. As does moral imperative for saving the lives, if able and willing and wherever possible.

Ah, I read that there were three paying guests, one person in a 'tour guide' role, and the sub captain

SadOrWickedFairy · 22/06/2023 21:53

I know it wouldn't have made any difference to what actually happened but if they had notified the Coastguard when they lost contact the rescue/recovery operation could have been started much sooner and would have avoided putting the families through having their hopes raised. Very, very cruel of Oceangate.

Bouledeneige · 22/06/2023 21:53

Queenoftheworld you clearly haven't followed the story, don't know the details and don't care. So why keep posting, wanting to be right? There are many other threads.

Not the knowledge I have picked up from what has been reported.

Everything has an element of LFE .....deep sea exploration is not advanced......they knew the risks.......they have helped like countless others have in other fields of exploration.......

Tragic.
I do feel the owner was to blame. That sub just wasn't performing as it should- It needed independent testing before others were allowed on board.

One earlier video showed them skimming inches over Deck of Titanic- Looking down into Grand Staircase area.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 22/06/2023 21:56

A bit late now but I was wondering how much food and water they took down - does anyone know? The trip to the bottom and back was supposed to take 8 hours but they had enough oxygen for four days. I wonder if they were likely to run out of water before they ran out of oxygen?

He makes it sound like it gives fair warning, but how long can it last whilst damaged?
