Yes we know they're billionaires
We can discuss things that are horrifying and ghoulish, thanks for your opinion.
Migrant boats are sad too

As you were 😁

How horrifying that a submarine carrying 5 people has gone missing. Apparently there’s only 96 hours of air on the submarine when it sets off. The...

Very sad outcome. May they rest in peace and I hope their families find the strength to get through their grief.

I really hope the company don’t continue these tours around the titanic. Let this be the last one so that nothing like this ever happens again.

I can't imagine that people will be queueing up to get on board.

HundredMilesAnHour · 22/06/2023 20:57

beeonmybonnett · 22/06/2023 20:56

I don’t know how realistic this is but I really hope their bodies can somehow be recovered and returned to their families so that they can be laid to rest.

Totally unrealistic. If you read the thread, you'll understand that the bodies effectively don't exist to be found. Think massive explosion.

Not at all realistic. There won't be anything much to recover. We aren't that dense, they were surrounded by thing's significantly denser than our bodies are.

I heard that the knocking was the cause of it exploding today after days of knocking there was a crack in fiber glass

Where on earth di you hear that?

There was NO fibre glass involved for a start, it was carbon fibre.

The incoming conspiracy theories and explanations are going to be off the scale.

ElYucateco · 22/06/2023 20:57

Thank you very much oakleaffy.

It's a very interesting and desperately sad video.

Because the four passengers would also have been given the same kit and probably have stayed in the same hotel, not knowing what lay ahead.

The flimsiness of the craft is a bit of a shock.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 22/06/2023 21:00

Igneococcus · 22/06/2023 20:54

The owner described {In the Mexican's video} how things would literally explode with dynamite like released energy.

I don't get that. How can it explode against the massive pressure that is outside? I always picture explosions as something that expands, I can't see that happening here.

It would implode rather than explode. It’s like science experiment where you create a partial vacuum in a container and normal atmospheric pressure will start to crush it. Even if they weren’t at the bottom they external pressure would have been hundreds of times greater than the internal. The sudden crushing force would have smashed it to pieces. The forces involved would have been immense.

The vast majority of posts on this thread have been well informed and intelligent.

People have asked for clarification so they can understand things they don't know. By and large it's been a good informative thread.

Be a shame if conspiracy loons spoil it now.

It’s been a great thread. A sad outcome but so educational. There’s some very intelligent posters on here. Sadly I had to Google what implode meant 😂 thank you to all

TakeMyStrongHand · 22/06/2023 21:03

@TitsonaFishRidingaBicycle no I mean if it didn't implode and just got lost. Obviously, if it imploded they wouldn't be knocking on anything or alive. I've worked in car insurance so I know what 100mph of pressure does let alone the bottom of the ocean pressure.

@Hungrycaterpillarsmummy never been so happy to say I'm not. That's a lie, I'm always happy to say I'm not 😂 and I'm grateful you saw I was half joking rather than eye rolling at me.

I just think it would be kinder to the family. Sounds horrible but I really hoped that it was an instant implosion and not something from actual nightmares.

oakleaffy · 22/06/2023 21:04

Here is the part where the cracking of the plexiglass was talked about. Complete lack of concern..Plus, it's the biggest 'Window' on any submersible that dives that deep.

Would that not have caused some concerns?

Sadly there won't be anything left to recover. Any particles left would have been diluted into the ocean

Have you never left a glass, with soap suds inside it, inadvertently, on the outskirts of the draining board (I.e so there is a seal)? Because I have, on 2 occasions, which ended with the glass shattering and shooting all over the kitchen. Not a massive extrapolation......

justgettingthroughtheday · 22/06/2023 21:05

TallulahBetty · 22/06/2023 20:43

And how was the debris found 1600 feet from the Titanic? Surely they descended closer to the wreck than that? Unless the implosion blew the debris that far?

@TallulahBetty you wouldn't want to come down too close to it for fear of landing on top of it. If they only have a small window to navigate from you would want to be far enough away to be well clear of the titanic. Chuck in currents and the safest thing is probably to descend a fair distance away and then move closer

SirQuintusAureliusMaximus · 22/06/2023 21:05

This is the video where Stockton Rush CEO talks about the plexiglass starting at 22:03 which I've linked to. Immediately after that they go inside the submersible. There are English captions if you turn them on.

I can't get over

  • how casual Stockton Rush is about the whole thing and
  • how horrible, tiny and claustrophic the interior is. I don't think I could do it on my own let alone with 5 people mostly strangers. It's a good thing it wasn't a suffocation situation - the thought of it makes me feel really sick, just like thinking about being buried alive. With 5 strangers, 3 not trained or experienced in this particular vehicle, it's almost inevitable one would have a panic attack.

It literally was like agreeing to risk being buried alive in a tin can with 4 strangers.

That's just nonsense, not least because there vessel wasn't made of "fiber glass"

Igneococcus · 22/06/2023 21:06

Yes, I would have used implosion as well @Motorina and @ChazsBrilliantAttitude I was wondering if I was missing something.

SheilaFentiman · 22/06/2023 21:07

@TheTERFnextDoor the banging noises will not be a clear recording, there will probably be layers and layers of ocean sounds and the reason no one said anything definite about them at a press conference etc is that the stripping and analysis of different frequencies was ongoing. If it hadn’t been a possible “race against time”, likely the analysis would have been done before the ships started being guided by the noises.

Within a few days? Don’t be silly. The bodies are still there somewhere, and quite possibly have been seen seen by the ROV, but they have chosen not to release that information yet.

Do you not understand what catastrophic implosion means? There are no bodies. Not now, now in a few days, not next month.

Probably unwise to call someone 'silly' for knowing that in a case like this the bodies will have been disintegrated by the implosion...

‘You’re remembered for the rules you break’

He’s not wrong.

MeinKraft · 22/06/2023 21:09

@Doris86 they would have been crushed in the implosion.

Lunde · 22/06/2023 20:56

The coastguard categorically denied that. They said they had sonar buoys in the water on Monday that would have picked up an implosion and they registered nothing.

Sadly I think everyone was dead before they were even reported missing - right after contact was lost

That's "good" to know

Given what the Rear Admiral said, I'm willing to say that statement was a lot more than silly.
